Bucs officially place Mike Evans on IR

After suffering a hamstring injury in Week 14’s win over the Colts, wide receiver Mike Evans was officially put on IR today.

It was all but official that Mike Evans’ season was over when he went down with a hamstring injury in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 38-35 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 14.

Upon the injury, head coach Bruce Arians said that he would be shocked if Evans made it back before the Bucs’ last game of the season against the division rival Atlanta Falcons. ESPN’s Jenna Laine later reported that Evans would most likely be shut down for the remainder of the season.

Today, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Bucs have officially placed Evans on injured reserved, ending his season just one day after it was announced that Evans was selected to represent the Buccaneers in the 2020 Pro Bowl.

It should only be a matter of time before the team’s other star wide receiver Chris Godwin receives the same designation.

Ian Rapoport believes Chris Godwin will miss the remainder of the year

See why NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport believes Bucs receiver Chris Godwin could miss the remainder of the season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won yesterday’s Week 15 matchup against the Detroit Lions 38-17, doing so without their top wide receiver Mike Evans, who was lost for the season after suffering a hamstring injury against the Indianapolis Colts the week before.

Now, the Bucs may very well have to finish the final two weeks of the season without their top two receivers after third-year man Chris Godwin went down in the third quarter of yesterday’s game in Detroit with a hamstring injury of his own.

And, even though Tampa Bay is 7-7 and riding a four-game winning-streak, they’ve already been eliminated from the playoffs. So, with only two weeks left in the season, it seems unlikely that Godwin will come back, at least according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

If it is the end of the season for Godwin, what a season it was. He set career highs across the board in receptions (86), yards (1,333) and touchdowns (9).

WATCH: Bears WR Javon Wims messes with cab driver, sheds light on injury

WR Javon Wims is in good spirits following a knee injury he suffered against the Cowboys on Thursday, which is good news for the Bears.

When Bears second-year receiver Javon Wims went down with a knee injury in the team’s win against the Cowboys on Thursday evening, many feared for the worst as he was down for several minutes before gingerly walking off the field. Wims, however, seems to be in very good spirits and doesn’t seem too concerned about the injury based on his Instagram story.

Wims posted a six minute video to his Instagram story on Saturday, talking with a ride share driver about the Bears, while pretending he was just a fan of the team. The two discussed quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, the receiving corps, fan burner accounts on social media and more during the drive.

When Wims, still pretending to be a fan, began talking about himself, the driver wondered how his injury looked after seeing him go down on Thursday. Wims decided to “speculate” on the situation.

“He’s not too bad, I think he’ll be alright,” Wims said. “It looked like he was OK.” Wims also hyped himself up, saying “that kid has a bright future, he has all the intangibles” while smiling.

When the driver finally discovers who he is, they both share a laugh. The driver then asks how he’s doing regarding his knee injury. “Yeah, I’m good,” Wims says with a laugh. The driver then asks if he walked to the car alright, to which Wims replied, “Yeah, I just got back. Everything is positive.”

[wpvideo Q35wtu9g]

The video focused primarily on the former Georgia Bulldog messing with the driver about who he was and offering priceless descriptions of his teammates, but the reveal regarding his knee injury is good news.

This comes a day after NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wims had a slight knee sprain and that it wasn’t major. The sprain occurred late in the first half when Trubisky attempted to find Wims in the endzone, but the receiver couldn’t make the catch and fell awkwardly with Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith.

With Wims himself saying he’s good and that he walked to the car fine, it’s another positive sign for the receiver’s recovery. However, it’s still too early to tell if Wims will miss any games.

Micah Hyde told other teams ‘don’t sleep’ on Bills this year

On RapSheet+Friends podcast, Hyde shared this idea with host Ian Rapoport that some did not agree with the safety’s vision.

The Buffalo Bills made several upgrades to their roster in the offseason via free agency and the draft. With the additions of John Brown, Cole Beasley, Frank Gore, Devin Singletary, Mitch Morse, Jon Feliciano, Ed Oliver, Quinton Spain, Dawson Knox, and Andre Roberts, the Bills worked to mitigate the talent gap on the roster from a year ago.

Some may have been skeptical that the moves were not enough. However, Bills safety Micah Hyde had no problem telling people, including former college teammates, that Buffalo would be a force to be reckoned with this year.

On RapSheet+Friends podcast, Hyde shared this idea with host Ian Rapoport that some did not agree with the safety’s vision. Hyde told, “I remember having a conversation with some buddies on other teams, former players that I played with in the past whether it’s in Green Bay or even my days in Iowa. And I was telling guys, ‘Hey, don’t sleep on us this year. We’re going to be good.”

Hyde also made reference to the team’s second-year quarterback Josh Allen, highlighting the confidence that the team had with the former first-round pick entering this season. “Obviously we have a young quarterback, but he’s a competitor. He’s a stud.” Hyde added, “Once he gets that confidence from year one to year two’ we’re going to be a pretty good football team.’”

Even so, others paid little attention to what Hyde discussed. “And obviously all the guys were like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever. Whatever. Whatever.’” Nevertheless, Hyde knew that this year could stand out from the recent history for the Bills. “Maybe I was a little biased, because I appreciate this football team. I know the hard work and stuff that a lot of guys put in, but I really did.”

Buffalo is on the verge of its first double-digit win season since 1999. They are a near-lock to make the playoffs, as publications give the group give the Bills around a 95-percent chance of making the playoffs.

“I saw the potential in this football team for sure,” Hyde highlighted. Now, it’s all coming together for the Bills year.

Report: Chargers QB Philip Rivers could be benched if struggles continue

Chargers could make a switch at quarterback if Philip Rivers continues to struggle.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is not having the season he was anticipating in the final year of his contract.

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Los Angeles could make a switch at the position if his struggles continue against the Denver Broncos by putting in QB Tyrod Taylor.

Rivers has talked with coach Anthony Lynn several times since their last game, and he knows his production has to be better. Lynn and the coaches evaluated everyone during the bye week and came out thinking “it’s not just one guy why we’re 4-7.” He said Rivers knows he can’t keep turning the ball over, but everyone is going to be evaluated.

That said, while Rivers has been interception-prone recently, Lynn does not want him looking over his shoulder as if he’ll come out with one pick. He doesn’t want him playing not to lose. He wants the same carefree Rivers who has thrived so often.

Through 11 games of the 2019 season, the former North Carolina State product has thrown for 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, including seven interceptions over the past two games.

Every game in which he has thrown an interception has been decided by a touchdown or less this season.

Rivers’ woes have been a result of struggling under pressure due to distrust  in the offensive line. But even with clean pockets, his decision-making his been poor and he is playing reckless.

Following the bye, coach Anthony Lynn acknowledged the fact that the team isn’t in the position that they would like to be and a lot of that falls on the turnovers the past few weeks.

“Guys know what we have to do. We’ve been turning the ball over and not taking it away enough. But they know I’m not going to keep talking about it, too. We’re going to take care of the football, or else.”

Benching Rivers would be a hard pill to swallow considering he’s been the starter for the past 14 years. But Lynn wants to put his team in the best position to win and if the veteran quarterback can’t get it done, he has to look to the other options on the roster.

Taylor played under Lynn for three seasons with the Buffalo Bills, so the familiarity is there. The 30-year old has starting experience with the Bills and the Cleveland Browns.

Badgers in the NFL: Russell Wilson sets NFL record in Week 12 win

Former Wisconsin Badger Russell Wilson is the only quarterback in history to post a winning record in each of his first eight NFL seasons.

Former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Russell Wilson continued his elite season with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles, 17-9, to move to 9-2 on the season.

The nine wins are crucial for Wilson, as it officially means he will have a winning season in 2019 – even if they lose the rest of their games.

Wilson has now officially led the Seahawks to a winning season in each of his first eight NFL seasons – and he became the first quarterback in NFL history to do so.

Most elite quarterbacks are early round picks, often on bad teams, which makes it difficult to accomplish such a feat. The Seahawks snagged Wilson late in the third round however, perhaps the greatest draft pick in franchise history.

Wilson has solidified himself as a legitimate MVP candidate this season, and while his performance against the Eagles was forgettable he is still boasting a 24-to-3 touchdown to interception ratio.

Wilson starred with the Badgers for one season in 2011, completing nearly 73 percent of his passes along with a ridiculous 33-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

WATCH: Cam Newton is reportedly open to joining Chicago Bears next season

Cam Newton plans to have surgery on his foot and that the career-long Panther would be open to joining the Chicago Bears next season.

A little more than a week after the Panthers placed Cam Newton on injured reserve, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the quarterback plans to have surgery on his foot and that the career-long Panther would be open to joining the Chicago Bears next season.

Newton has one year left on his contract with the Panthers after back-to-back offseason shoulder injuries, and now two consecutive seasons shortened by injury. The Panthers will owe Newton $19.1 million in 2020, with a salary-cap hit of $21.1 million, but that $19.1 million is not guaranteed.

The 30-year-old got hurt during the preseason, then again in Week 2 when a foot injury ended his season. Initially, the injury was not seen as being as severe as it became. Deemed a Lisfranc injury, the left foot injury could be made better by surgery to repair the torn ligament in Newton’s foot.

Surgery and an 8-10 week recovery period would make Newton “very tradable,” (according to Rapoport) to a team like the Bears. The plan is something that Rapoport says “from my understanding, Cam Newton would in fact welcome.”

Bears head coach Matt Nagy is in need of improvement at the quarterback position. Mitchell Trubisky, who the franchise drafted second overall in 2017, has regressed this season.
