Seattle sticking to game plan though 1st wave of free agency

The Seattle Seahawks haven’t been overly aggressive and appear to be sticking to their game plan through the first wave of free agency.

Now that the dust has settled after the first week of free agency we can get a better idea of which teams look to have been the most successful.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently penned a piece after speaking with (unnamed) team executives around the league to get their insight on clubs’ moves so far. Below are his thoughts on the Seahawks’ signings over the last week.

“Seattle might just win free agency without much effort,” Fowler noted. “The Seahawks’ Week 1 plan was to make strong but not outrageous offers to key defensive guys Jarran Reed and Jadeveon Clowney, knowing their markets might not heat up as some expected. It worked with Reed, who settled on a two-year, $23 million deal after a 2019 suspension slowed his impressive production.

“The same formula might just work for Clowney, who is looking at all options, including short-term deals,” Fowler continued. “The longer Clowney waits, the better Seattle’s chances.”

Fowler did not specify which teams staffers he spoke with or even if he had any discussions with someone in Seattle, but he seems to have summed up the Seahawks’ game plan in a reasonable fashion.
