Notre Dame’s all-time winningest quarterback gets NFL workout

Nobody has won more games as a starting quarterback in Notre Dame history than Ian Book and now Book is getting looks for a new NFL job.

Nobody won more games as a Notre Dame starting quarterback than Ian Book. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 2021 after helping lead the Irish to College Football Playoff appearances in 2018 and 2020.

Book has had trouble sticking in the NFL. He lasted one year with the Saints and spent last year with the Eagles, both in reserve roles. He was cut before this season by the Eagles.

Book is however still putting in the work to get on an NFL roster. He spent Tuesday working out with the 49ers and according to Tom Loy of 247Sports, will work out with the Patriots on Wednesday.

All the best to Book on getting hooked back up on an NFL roster.

Why are 49ers working out QB Ian Book?

Our read on why the #49ers worked out QB Ian Book:

The 49ers are working out a quarterback. NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero on Tuesday reported former Saints and Eagles quarterback Ian Book would be holding a workout with San Francisco.

Given the team’s library of chaos under center the last couple years, any QB-related news puts antennas up. However, our read on the Book news is that the club is checking out available free agents to keep their list updated.

It likely does not mean they’re preparing to turn the page on either Brock Purdy, Sam Darnold or Brandon Allen.

The 49ers are likely just aiming to cover their bases in the event they wind up needing to add another QB. There aren’t even practice squad snaps available for Book. San Francisco has their backup take the scout team reps, and with Darnold and Allen already on the roster there wouldn’t really be a role for a fourth QB.

Book, a fourth-round pick of the Saints in 2021, started one game as a rookie and went 12-of-20 for 135 yards and two interceptions in a loss.

Don’t expect much additional news to come of the Book workout. Perhaps the team revisits him in the event that one of their QBs goes down. Until then they’re just staying up to date on free agents, not preparing to author another chaotic chapter in their recent QB history.

Former Philadelphia #Eagles’ QB Ian Book to work out for 49ers ahead of Week 2

The 49ers are working out former Eagles third-string quarterback Ian Book on Tuesday, according to Tom Pelissero.

The Eagles waived Book at the 53-man roster deadline, naming rookie Tanner McKee as the third quarterback.

The former Notre Dame star has suited up for just one game since entering the league.

Notre Dame vs NC State: Irish Understood The Mission

Mission Accomplished for Game 3.

What an adventurous day in Raleigh, North Carolina, right folks?

Fortunately for Irish fans, after the flashbacks to USF and other previous encounters at this particular venue subsided, Notre Dame downed the Wolfpack 45-24. This game was the biggest hurdle on the schedule between Notre Dame hosting Ohio State undefeated or doing so with a deflating loss on the ledger.

It was an absolute must-have. The Irish got it.

Did Notre Dame look perfect? No. Are the Irish a finished product? No. Are there position groups that must step up? Certainly. But the main goal was accomplished. The reality is Notre Dame won, 45-24, in a kind of game with a history of being lost.

Notre Dame understood this game would be a tough physical battle against NC State and Mother Nature and they fought through it. Let’s examine a few key items that impressed me in this game.

Notre Dame vs NC State: Confidences & Concerns

What are you keeping an eye on besides the obvious this Saturday?

After what proved to be an exceedingly wild weekend of college football when all was said and done, the page turns and Notre Dame prepares for its first real physical test of the season in their trip to NC State. This game has been labeled a “trap” so often I don’t think it can be considered one anymore.

Irish fans were thrilled to have relaxing second halves in the first couple of games, but they are also looking forward to seeing what the Irish look like for the first time against a more physically capable opponent. NC State did not overly impress in their opener against Uconn, but they emerged victorious and will surely be fully prepared emotionally to greet Notre Dame.

Let’s take a look at this week’s confidences & concerns.

Notre Dame Moves To 2-0: Right On Track

Things are about to heat up for Notre Dame…

Two weeks. Two blowout wins. What’s not to like? Sure, Irish fans will find areas the team needs to further develop before the Buckeyes’ impending visit. But overall, Notre Dame fans have to love what they’ve seen so far out of the team. This week wasn’t quite as clean as last week’s performance, but the Irish still took over the game and dominated Tennessee St. 56-3.

The defense has yet to allow a touchdown. [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] is, dare I say, perhaps even better than advertised. This team is getting deeper, more athletic, and faster than it was ever physically capable of being under Brian Kelly. It’s not a finished product, but Notre Dame is building itself differently. In a more modern way. Freeman’s vision is starting to come to fruition.

Next week comes the first big test. NC State will provide the Irish with a much more physically capable foe than the initial two opponents could. Let’s examine three things I know about the Irish entering this crucial week.

Eagles waive QB Ian Book ahead of roster deadline

The Philadelphia #Eagles are waiving quarterback Ian Book ahead of the 53-man roster cutdown deadline

Tanner McKee is officially the Eagles third string quarterback and could be aiming for the backup job to all-Pro, Jalen Hurts.

According to Jeff McLane, and confirmed by Ian Rapoport, Ian Book is being waived.

Notre Dame vs. Navy: Confidences and concerns for Irish

Game week is upon us – how you feeling for Saturday’s opener?

The last version of “Confidences and Concerns” was more than eight months ago, and I must say it feels good to revive this column at Fighting Irish Wire.

Game week is upon us. With that in mind, diehard Irish fans are tossing and turning at night pondering what the 2023 Irish team will look like this fall.

This time of year is special. Every team is undefeated and therefore can afford to let some hope enter their hearts and dream big. The beginning of every Notre Dame season is magical, but this year carries extra juice. There’s just so much “newness” to behold within the program from the quarterback to the strength and conditioning staff.

Let’s examine what I think Notre Dame fans should feel confident in and should be concerned about entering Game 1.

REPORT: Navy To Use 2 Quarterbacks vs Notre Dame?

Actual game preview/discussion. We’re getting close!!!

Notre Dame’s season opener against Navy is just 12 days away.  Actually, less since we’re past the time of kickoff.

A reminder – Navy has a new coach this year. Brian Newberry has taken over for Navy staple and occasional pain in Notre Dame’s side, Ken Niumatalolo. Perhaps the new man in charge has some tricks up his sleeve waiting for the Irish in Ireland? If ever there were a time for such shenanigans, I think this may be the perfect one.

Newberry knows he is undermanned and under-talented against the Irish and that he may have to take some chances to try and pull the upset. In his favor is the fact that there is no film of him as a head coach. He’s a bit of a wildcard. What is his appetite for risk/reward vs coach Ken’s? Notre must be ready for everything.

Adding to this already intriguing Dublin plot is the recent report in the Capital Gazette which indicates that Newberry may be inclined to play 2 quarterbacks against Notre Dame as he named Blake Horvath and Tai Lavatai QB A-1 and A-2. Let’s examine what this move would mean for Notre Dame as they line us against Navy to open the year.

Studs and Duds from Eagles 20-19 loss to the Ravens in preseason opener

We’re looking at the Studs and Duds from the Philadelphia #Eagles 20-19 loss to the Baltimore #Ravens in the preseason opener

The Eagles kicked off the preseason with an exciting debut against the Ravens in Baltimore.

With key starters and veterans inactive, Philadelphia got impressive performances from several rookies, but fell 20-19 in the opener.

With two joint practice sessions against the Browns on Monday and Tuesday, Nick Sirianni chose to let the young players develop and gain further experience.

Here are the studs and duds from the contest.
