Sean Payton shares a look at his home battle station for the 2020 NFL Draft

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton showed off his battle station for the “virtual” 2020 NFL Draft, with multiple screens and laptops.

The NFL’s requirement that all team personnel work remotely from home ahead of this year’s draft has led to creative solutions around the league, with New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton putting together a multi-screen battle station in his living room.

Complete with multiple monitors, two different laptop computers, a wide-screen television, and a phone for conference calls, Payton appears to be locked in and ready for the “virtual” 2020 NFL Draft.

Payton responded to a fan’s conversation with NFL Network’s Kay Adams, who was asked whether she would want to be a fly on the wall while Payton works the upcoming draft. Adams has been a champion for the Saints in recent years, doing her part to include them in conversations about the NFL’s best teams.

So of course, Payton joked that he’d be happy to add her to his team — but, “Only if she’s tech savvy!” See the exchange and Payton’s setup for yourself:

We’ve written about the Saints’ plans before, noting that they will have two conversations on teleconference going on simulatenously on draft day. One stream will feature Payton and the rest of the Saints braintrust, including general manager Mickey Loomis, assistant G.M./college scouting director Jeff Ireland, and salary cap guru Khai Hartley. Another channel will include those four shot-callers and the rest of the team’s scouts and assistant coaches, who will be listening on unless called upon to share their insight on a prospect.

Payton’s “war room” setup here might reflect that, with a different monitor dedicated to each teleconference call flanking his television. He’ll be able to pull up scouting reports and the team’s big board with the computers at his desk, and call in the team’s picks with the phone — or check in with another team about making a trade.

The many digital wallpapers featuring the Saints logo are a nice touch, and the miniature logo on the phone’s screen definitely earned some kudos for the Saints I.T. staff (as does their very effective cord management strategy). And you’ve got to appreciate the tasteful fleur-de-lis coasters. Payton might have a future with interior decorating if this football thing doesn’t work out.

Seahawks could start the 2020 season with 2 road games

The Seattle Seahawks could start the 2020 NFL season with two road games, or at least one thanks to the Mariners and Sounders’ schedules.

The Seattle Seahawks could start the 2020 NFL season with two road games based on recent information regarding the schedules of the Seattle Sounders FC and the Seattle Mariners.

The NFL will announce the Seahawks’ schedule in April before the draft, but it is very likely the team will play an away game in Week 1. The Sounders play at CenturyLink Field on September 13 and the Mariners have a home game the following day, eliminating the possibility of a Monday night home game.

The Mariners and Sounders also have home games the following week, so the Seahawks will not get a home game that weekend unless it is featured as the “Monday Night Football” matchup.

Hat tip to Field Gulls for piecing things together.

The main takeaway is this, with the soccer and baseball games already on the books, Seahawks fans should not expect too many home games early in the 2020 season.

Texas sends two players home before Alamo Bowl

Texas has sent home two players ahead of tomorrow’s Alamo Bowl. LBs David Gbenda and Byron Vaughns violated team rules and will not play.

Texas has sent home two players ahead of tomorrow’s Alamo Bowl against Utah. Linebackers David Gbenda and Byron Vaughns violated team rules and will not be playing in tomorrow’s game.

Both freshman, Vaughns has played in seven games this season. Recording 14 tackles in those games, he was a key contributor to the win against Kansas earlier this year. Of his eight total tackles that day, six of them were solo. Vaughns also forced a fumble in the loss to TCU.

Gbenda has played in four games, but only recorded a tackle against Kansas.

For a Texas defense that has struggled this season, losing depth at the linebacker position will not help. They will face off against Utah tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. CST on ESPN.

Phillip Lindsay hasn’t actually moved out of his parents’ home yet

Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay plans to move out of his parents’ home but he hasn’t found a new place to live yet.

Last week, Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that he is moving out of his parents’ home.

Lindsay signed with Denver as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Colorado last year and he didn’t get his own apartment in part to save money.

“I was able to save some money for me to be able to get a place and also help myself out after getting a place,” Lindsay told Rapoport. “I just think it was the right choice to do right now.”

Lindsay said Wednesday that he hasn’t actually moved out yet.

“Right now, I’m looking around and shopping around stuff, so we’ll see how that goes,” the running back said.

So he’s going to move out, but he’s not actively moving out at the moment. Perhaps the move will take place at the end of the season.

Lindsay is on pace to gain 1,322 yards from scrimmage in 2019.
