WATCH: Duke’s Logan Bravo ties Virginia Tech game with three-run homer

The Blue Devils baseball team trailed the Hokies by multiple runs in the seventh inning, but Bravo squared the score with one mighty lash.

In baseball, there are clutch hits, and then there’s Logan Bravo against Virginia Tech on Sunday.

In the deciding contest for the three-game road series, Bravo took the batter’s box with the Blue Devils trailing by three in the top of the seventh. With runners on first and second and one out, the Harvard transfer had one job: keep the inning alive.

He did a lot more than that.

Bravo lashed at the first pitch he saw, an inside heater, and launched the ball over the left-center wall. The Hokies outfielders jogged after it for a second, but it became clear after just a few seconds that the ball wasn’t coming down.

Bravo pumped his fist and yelled as he rounded second base, and his teammates mobbed him as he returned to the dugout.

Mike Trout slammed a 473-foot homer out of the Marlins ballpark

Mike Trout is unreal.

Los Angeles Lakers star outfielder Mike Trout rarely disappoints at the plate, and he smacked the seams off the baseball during his team’s Monday tilt against the Miami Marlins.

On a pitch from Marlins ace George Soriano, Trout hit a startling 473-foot homer all the way out of the Miami ballpark.

It was an equalizing home run, one that showed just how powerful Trout is on his swing when he’s at the plate. When a player as talented as Trout steps up to bat, there’s only so much you can do.

This gigantic homer is further proof of why Trout is one of the MLB’s elite talents.

Duke overwhelms George Mason in 11-homer, 23-run offensive display

A home run derby broke out in Durham on Saturday as the Blue Devils launched a program-record 11 homers during a 23-5 victory.

You know, most of the team when a baseball team records five runs and seven hits in a game, it probably feels pretty good about itself at the end of the day.

Not so for George Mason on Saturday in Durham.

The No. 14 Blue Devils won their second straight game to start the season in a mammoth 23-5 win over the Patriots as Duke hit a program-record 11 home runs within one game.

The fireworks came early and often for the Duke team. After George Mason scored one run in the top half of the first, recent Harvard transfer Logan Bravo doubled home the first Blue Devils run of the day.

Duke didn’t stop there.

Freshman AJ Gracia, who got the start in right field on Saturday, stepped into the batter’s box still without a collegiate hit after a three-walk debut against Indiana. He made his first hit a memorable one, launching an absolute moonshot to right field for a three-run home run.

In the very next at-bat, centerfielder Devin Obee bounced a line drive off the center field wall and made his way around for an inside-the-park home run. Just three batters after him, shortstop Wallace Clark and second baseman Zac Morris launched back-to-back shots to give Duke an 8-1 lead before the end of the first.

Gracia didn’t slow down after his three-run jack, either. The freshman came to the plate for his second at-bat of the game in the second inning, again with two runners on base. How does one follow up his first collegiate home run, you may ask? With his second collegiate home run.

If you’re gonna do something twice, however, you might as well do it a third time just for good measure. In the bottom of the seventh, Gracia again pounded a ball over the fence, this time to right-center field with, you guessed it, two runners on base.

Gracia finished his second collegiate game with four hits, three home runs, and nine RBIs.

Obee also decided that an inside-the-park home run wasn’t quite the same as the firepower his teammates were showing off, so he decided to hit another home run in the sixth inning, this time the old-fashioned way by powering a ball over the left-field fence.

The Patriots kept adding runs wherever they could, scoring two more in the top of the third and another in the top of the seventh, but Duke had 13 runs by the end of the third inning.

Not to be outdone by his classmate Gracia, freshman Kyle Johnson tossed three scoreless innings from the fourth through the sixth in his first appearance on the mound in Durham.

The Blue Devils kept the fireworks show going in the seventh inning when third baseman Ben Miller fired an opposite-field bomb for Duke’s eighth home run of the game, a new program record. Gracia’s third homer followed, as did Morris’s second to give the Blue Devils 10 home runs in the first seven innings.

Freshman Chase Krewson joined in on his classmates’ fun right at the buzzer, knocking a ball over the right-field fence into the parking lot for the 11th and final home run of the day.

The offensive explosion added up to a 23-5 victory for Duke and a second straight win to open the season. The Blue Devils end their opening weekend on Sunday against No. 18 Coastal Carolina at 3:00 p.m. ET.

Catch of the Year? Softball outfielder saves a home run, takes a shot from fence

Whoever said softball was a non-contact sport never had this happen to them.

Whoever said softball was a non-contact sport never had this happen to them.

Watch Berwick (Pa.) center fielder Katie Starr hustle back and make an awesome play on the ball, robbing the batter of what would have been a home run by reaching over the fence for the catch.

In the process, she takes a hit to the chest and gets the wind knocked out of her, but hangs on to the ball.

The two baserunners managed to tag up and score on the play, taking advantage of what might be the catch of the year by Super Sophomore Katie Starr.

A very good dog caught a home run ball at a Dodgers spring training game

What a good dog!

During a Saturday spring training game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Kansas City Royals, a home run turned into a game of fetch for one lucky dog.

As Dodgers second baseman Michael Busch hammered one over the wall in Los Angeles’ preseason finale, the ball hopped over just enough to where a dog in the crowd caught it with his mouth and proudly gave it to his owner.

The world needs more dogs that are able to catch home run baseballs, and it was delightful to see everyone in the crowd cheer on the dog as he retrieved the ball for his owner, who sported a K-9 Dodgers jersey.

Spring training may not have actual stakes for the regular season, but if a dog can catch a baseball, it’s still worthwhile for the folks in the stands.

Someone make sure that dog gets to keep the baseball and is given plenty of treats for his very good fetching.

WATCH: Texas’ Eric Kennedy hits clutch home run to erase Tennessee’s lead in College World Series

Texas left fielder Eric Kennedy had a monster three-run home run on Tuesday in the College World Series against Tennessee.

After falling behind two runs in the second inning of their elimination game against Tennessee in the College World Series, Texas’ left fielder Eric Kennedy snatched back the momentum for the Longhorns in a spectacular way hitting his fourth home run of the season. His three-run moonshot gave Texas their first lead over an opponent in Omaha.

Kennedy’s home run was the first sign of significant offense for Texas and it could not have come in a more timely manner. The Longhorns are currently 0-1 in Omaha, where a win keeps their season alive and a loss sends them packing back to Austin.

Just like the rest of the Longhorns starting nine, Kennedy had a rough game at the plate against Mississippi State’s Will Bednar, who had a brilliant performance that consisted of having the Longhorns looking foolish at the plate all game. Bednar had 15 strikeouts in six innings alone and Texas eventually struck out a total of 21 times.

Tune in to ESPNU to watch Texas and Tennessee fight to stay alive in the College World Series.

WATCH: Alabama softball run rules opponent with grand slam

Alabama continues their perfect season with an 0-8 win against Northern Iowa. The game was cut short after a grand slam due to the run rule.

Alabama softball is on an absolute tear. The team is 19-0 on the season and is not holding back on opponents.

In today’s matchup, the Crimson Tide faced off against Northern Iowa at home, and they did not need the full seven innings.

In a shutout game that ended with a final score of 0-8, Alabama flashed the bats.

Up by four in the bottom of the fifth inning, sophomore infielder Savannah Woodard was up to bat with the bases loaded.

With one swing of the bat, Woodard not only hit a no-doubter grand slam, but ended the game.

The Crimson Tide will face off against South Alabama tomorrow, their final game before conference play begins.

Watch Woodard absolutely crush this ball to right.

WATCH: Alabama outfielder makes unreal catch to rob home run

Alabama defeated Troy easily today, but what fans are talking about is this unreal catch made by right fielder Andrew Pinckney.

Alabama baseball is 8-1 after defeating Toy at home in a one-game series with a final score of 9-1. However, what fans are talking about is an unbelieveable play made by redshirt-freshman outfielder Andrew Pinckney.

With the Crimson Tide up by eight in the top of the ninth inning, a ball is hit high and deep to right field for what looks like a Troy home run.

Pinckney had other plans for the ball.

He locates the ball and follows it to the warning track, where he then jumps up and reaches his glove over the fence.

The ball appears to hit his glove, out of play, then bounce back up into the field of play. Pinckney relocates the ball and catches it.

Troy thinks it is a home run and Pinckney is unsure whether to just toss the ball back or try and get the runner, who is still rounding the bases.

It’s called an out and the play will likely be a web gem.

Dad has the best reaction to young son hitting his first home run

Can’t stop watching.

There’s not a lot — or, really, any live sports — going on right now, but that doesn’t mean that sports have stopped providing people with memorable moments.

Just ask former independent league player Cory Willig.

Willig took a trip to a nearby baseball field this weekend with his young son, Ash, to hit some baseballs. And that afternoon led to a memory that has since gone viral on social media.

Willig caught his son’s first home run on video, and as the ball cleared the fence, Willig had the absolute best proud-dad reaction to the impressive homer. This was so great.
