2025 4-star WR Kelshaun Johnson will announce his commitment next week

2025 4-star wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson is set to announce his commitment on July 16

Due to Hurrican Beryl, which impacted the entire state of Texas last week, plans for everyone were changed on a dime, including 2024 4-star wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson out of Hitchcock, Texas. However, with things finally returning to normal, Johnson will announce his collegiate plans next week.

On Saturday, Johnson posted on X that he will announce his decision on Tuesday, July 16, which will be available to stream on 247Sports’ YouTube, as he will choose between Texas, USC, Arkansas, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M after a long summer of official visits, including a visit to College Station on June 6.

Standing at 5-11 and 160 pounds, Johnson possesses impressive speed and route running skills with the ability to play on the outside or in the slot while serving as a kick/punt returner early in his college career.

With new offensive coordinator Collin Klein taking over play-calling duties this coming season, recruits, including Johnson, have been provided a clear vision of how they’ll fit in the Aggies offense. On the recruiting front, Texas A&M has only one wide receiver commit in the 2025 cycle, losing out on several recruits, including 4-star WR Taz Williams Jr.

According to 247Sports, Johnson is currently positioned as the 192nd-ranked prospect in the 2025 class, the 20th-ranked wide receiver, and the 27th-ranked prospect in Texas.

Texas A&M is still predicted to land rising 2025 4-star WR out of Hitchcock (TX)

Texas A&M is now predicted to land one of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2025 recruiting class

Texas A&M’s recruiting success under head coach Mike Elko isn’t surprising to most, but for those who felt that he couldn’t emulate the success that Jimbo Fisher sustained through his tenure, we’re all wrong sometimes!

Following the successful conclusion of the talented 2024 recruiting class, the 2025 cycle has been steadily expanding since the arrival of the former Duke head coach in November. Elko has secured 14 commitments, including the recent addition of four-star tight end Kiotti Armstrong last Friday night.

After hosting a long list of 2025 prospects back-to-back weekends, Elko and his staff have yet to land a wide receiver. However, after hosting four-star WR Kelshaun Johnson out of Hitchcock (TX), the former Texas Longhorns favorite has received two predictions to land with Texas A&M as of this week.

Back in April, Texas A&M WR coach Holmon Wiggins visited Johnson while also setting up his official visit. The Aggies’ coaching staff has continued to make the rising prospect a priority heading into his final senior season.

According to 247Sports, Johnson is currently ranked 192nd among prospects in the 2025 class, 8th among wide receiver prospects, and 27th among prospects in Texas.

What offensive senior analyst Scotty Ohara can bring to Texas A&M

New senior analyst Scotty Ohara looks to aid development at the wide receiver position

One of the knocks on the Texas A&M football team in recent years has been their issues developing the wide receiver talent they have been able to get on campus. Some of that could be attributed to injuries or the play calling, but whatever the overall problem, it needed to be addressed.

Texas A&M added former UTEP offensive coordinator and wide receiver coach Scotty Ohara to the staff in March. Even though the team record for the Miners hasn’t been great over the past few seasons, Ohara has been successful in helping produce a quality receiving core during his time in El Paso.

Some proof of that was helping Tyrin Smith and Jacob Cowing to be the first back-to-back receivers to reach 1,000 yards for the first time in the team’s history. Smith was also one of three receivers in Conference USA to reach 1,000 yards in 2022. Matrix Analytical Solutions recently included the combination of Texas A&M WR coach Holmon Wiggins and Ohara as a top coaching duo in the country.

Report: Former Texas A&M wide receivers coach has found a new home at Georgia State

According to college football reporter Matt Zenitz, Dameyune Craig is expected to be hired as an offensive assistant coach at Georgia State.

A former Texas A&M wide receivers coach from the Jimbo Fisher era has found a new home.

According to 247Sports & CBS Sports national college football reporter Matt Zenitz, Dameyune Craig is expected to be hired as an offensive assistant coach at Georgia State per sources. Craig spent the last six seasons in College Station coaching the Aggies wideouts since 2018.

Craig reunites with new Panthers head coach Dell McGee, who he played with at Auburn in the 1990s. McGee is also expected to hire Tigers analyst Jeremiah Wilson as defensive backs coach, Zenitz reported.

Before arriving in Aggieland, Craig had previous coaching stints with LSU (2004 & 2016), Miami Dolphins (2005), Tuskegee (2006-07), South Alabama (2008-09), Florida State (2010-12 & 2017) and Auburn (2013-15).

The native of Mobile, Alabama played quarterback with the Tigers from 1994-97. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers in 1998, where he played for four seasons until 2001. He also had a brief offseason stint with the Washington Redskins in 2002.

Here are the Top 10 college football recruiters ahead of the 2024 season

With National Signing Day finished for the 2024 cycle, here are the top college football recruiters who have made a name for themselves.

With the conclusion of National Signing Day last week, the 2024 recruiting cycle is complete, as every program is focused on spring football and building their respective 2025 cycle heading into the summer.

Looking deeper into the vast and complicated recruiting world, it seems that, on the surface, head coaches receive more credit for landing top prospects than the staff that surround them, but that can’t be further from the truth.

For example, former Texas A&M HC Jimbo Fisher’s elite 2022 recruiting class, especially concerning the defensive prospects, was primarily due to the work of assistant coaches Elijah Robinson and the late Terry Price, while Robinson has now transitioned to Syracuse as the program’s new defensive coordinator.

For new Aggies head coach Mike Elko, several new staff members, including Holmon Wiggins (WR coach), Ishmael Aristide (CB coach), and Trooper Taylor (RB coach), have helped secure A&M’s 16th-ranked 2024 cycle, culminating with the signing of long time commit, 5-star athlete Terry Bussey.

Looking at the entire college football coaching landscape to nail down the best recruiters in 2024, 247Sports ranked the Top 10 assistant coaches who deserve such credit.

4-star WR Ashton Bethel-Roman signs with Texas A&M after de-committing from Arkansas

Bethel-Roman signed a national letter of intent to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks on Dec. 20 but he was released from the NLI on Feb. 1.

With national signing day underway, many prospects around the country have been choosing their future homes and Texas A&M signed a big-time playmaker today.

4-star wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman chose to continue his football career in Bryan College Station with the Aggies. On3 Sports national recruiting expert Sam Spiegelman predicted the signing on Tuesday and nailed it.

Bethel-Roman signed a national letter of intent to play for Arkansas on Dec. 20. However, he was released from the NLI agreement on Feb. 1 and immediately re-opened his recruitment.

The talented wideout stands at just over 6 feet and weighs 170 pounds. He is a future graduate of Ridge Point High School in Missouri City, Texas.

Bethel-Roman had 23 total offers and took four visits. He visited Aggieland on Dec. 15 and was primarily recruited by wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins. He took three respective visits in June to the Razorbacks, Oregon and Texas Tech.

Highly rated Lone Star State recruits rave about Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and his staff

The Texas-area recruits have noticed and several of them recently shared their thoughts on the new regime with Sam Spiegelman of On3 Sports.

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and his staff have been working very hard as of late recruiting the top prospects from the Class of 2024, 2025 & 2026.

The recruits have noticed and several of them recently shared their thoughts on the new regime with Sam Spiegelman of On3 Sports, including 4-star cornerback Deyjhon Pettaway.

“They all have a plan for what’s next for Texas A&M and I believe it’s a really good one. They poured so much knowledge into me and told me where could A&M be at and where it’s at right now. They know what needs to be done in order to proceed with those plans,” Pettaway told On3. “The conversations with the new staff hold more weight and the plans they want to accomplish have a deeper meaning and different intensity about it. They have an opportunity to flip the program around and they have the resources, the mentality and the teachings to do so.”

4-star wide receiver Andrew Marsh is a fan of Elko adding Holmon Wiggins to his staff from Alabama as wideouts coach and co-offensive coordinator.

“Getting to talk to both of those guys just impressed me more by the type of people they are and what they have planned for the program,” Marsh told On3. “The biggest thing I could see was just the attention to detail and the way they are just way more approachable and easier to talk to. My biggest takeaway from the visit was that they plan to come in and make some big changes for the good of Texas A&M football.”

After being recruited by the former and current staff, 4-star tight end Kiotti Armstrong favors the new regime

“It’s not Jimbo’s world anymore,” Armstrong told On3. “Some head coaches make it about them, but at A&M, it’s more about the players. I think I can do pretty much what I do in high school there, but develop more and do more at A&M.”

4-star WR Adrian Wilson has noticed the contrast between the two staffs.

“I went back to A&M recently and it was great. Coach Wiggins has been reaching out to me already about getting me back out to campus,” Wilson told On3. “It’s a whole different staff. From coach (Dameyune) Craig to coach Wiggins now, it’s a stronger relationship. Wiggins always has a smile on his face, he’s already ready to shake hands and talk with parents. I love to hear that and he’s definitely a big part of this.”

According to Spiegelman, 4-star wideout Kaliq Lockett wasn’t considering Aggieland as an option until Elko took over.

“Coach Elko, he means business,” Lockett told On3. “What intrigues me is that he said he’s not gonna talk about it; he’s gonna be about it. That’s his motto for the upcoming season. Now that Wiggins is there and the new staff is there, I’m really liking A&M.”

2024 5-star wide receiver Ryan Williams has committed to Alabama over Auburn and Texas A&M.

5-star wide receiver Ryan Williams has decided to remain close to home and play for the University of Alabama beginning in the fall.

According to On3 Sports national recruiting expert Hayes Fawcett, Williams committed to the Crimson Tide program on Wednesday evening.

“Alabama is and always has been where my heart was since I first began being recruited by them,” Williams stated to On3 Sports. “I love the TIDE and the TIDE loves me. With the addition of Coach DeBoer’s offense and the relationship I built with him and the rest of the staff and such a short amount of time, I am 1000% confident and committed…. ROLL TIDE!”

Williams stands at just over six feet, weighing 165 pounds, and is from Saraland High School in Alabama. He had 26 total offers and had taken three visits. He had one more trip scheduled, to Auburn, on Feb. 3 that is likely canceled.

Williams canceled his scheduled visit to the University of Texas on Tuesday. He has a “5-star plus+” rating per On3, basically meaning that he is in the elite group of players with a 5-star rating.

Texas A&M was Williams’ first visit on Jan. 12. Five days later he traveled to the Bayou to tour LSU. Then on Jan. 20, he trekked over three hours north and nearly 200 miles to Tuscaloosa, visiting the Crimson Tide program only 10 days after Nick Saban retired.

The primary recruiter of Williams for Alabama was wideouts coach Holmon Wiggins, who became wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator for the Aggies on Jan. 2.

The primary recruiter for Alabama was wideouts coach Holmon Wiggins, who became wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator for the Aggies on Jan. 2.

Uncommitted 5-star wide receiver Ryan Williams from the Class of 2024 has reportedly decided to skip one of his upcoming trips to a prominent school in the Lone Star State.

According to On3 Sports senior national recruiting analyst Gerry Hamilton, Williams has canceled his scheduled visit to the University of Texas. Williams has a “5-star plus+” rating per On3, basically meaning that he is in the elite group of players with a 5-star rating.

Williams stands at just over six feet, weighing 165 pounds from Saraland High School in Alabama. He has 26 total offers, has taken three visits and has one more on the calendar.
