‘We’re one of the flagship programs in this state’, Mike Elko dishes on the Aggies’ recruiting haul

Hear what Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko had to say after the conclusion of National Signing Day on Wednesday.

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class is now complete, and head football coach Mike Elko deserves to take a victory lap after signing long-time 5-star commit Terry Bussey ranked as the top athlete in the 2024 cycle. Combined with signees including 4-star wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman and 3-star offensive tackle Robert Bourdon, the future is very bright in College Station.

So far, Elko has hired a top-notch staff while keeping most of the program’s 2024 commits after the firing of Jimbo Fisher while gaining 22 players from the transfer portal, essentially rebuilding A&M’s roster ahead of his inaugural season at the helm.

Bussey’s signing signaled the overwhelming trust that recruits have in Elko and his staff, compared to prospects like 2024 5-star wide receiver Cameron Coleman, who flipped to Auburn after Fisher’s dismissal.

While there is a lot of work to be done before spring football next month, Elko took a bevy of questions from the media after the completion of NSD on Wednesday. Here’s what he had to say.

4-star WR Ashton Bethel-Roman signs with Texas A&M after de-committing from Arkansas

Bethel-Roman signed a national letter of intent to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks on Dec. 20 but he was released from the NLI on Feb. 1.

With national signing day underway, many prospects around the country have been choosing their future homes and Texas A&M signed a big-time playmaker today.

4-star wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman chose to continue his football career in Bryan College Station with the Aggies. On3 Sports national recruiting expert Sam Spiegelman predicted the signing on Tuesday and nailed it.

Bethel-Roman signed a national letter of intent to play for Arkansas on Dec. 20. However, he was released from the NLI agreement on Feb. 1 and immediately re-opened his recruitment.

The talented wideout stands at just over 6 feet and weighs 170 pounds. He is a future graduate of Ridge Point High School in Missouri City, Texas.

Bethel-Roman had 23 total offers and took four visits. He visited Aggieland on Dec. 15 and was primarily recruited by wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins. He took three respective visits in June to the Razorbacks, Oregon and Texas Tech.

2024 4-Star WR and former Arkansas commit is now predicted to sign with Texas A&M

On3’s Sam Spiegelman has submitted his prediction for 2024 4-star WR Ashton Bethel-Roman to sign with Texas A&M on Wednesday, Feb. 7 (National Signing Day).

Late last week, it was reported that 2024 4-star wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman, out of Missouri City, Texas, had been formally released from his LOI (letter of intent) with the Arkansas Razorbacks, opening up his recruitment after visiting College Station last month.

Slated to sign with a team during National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 7, Bethel-Roman has kept in contact with Aggies head coach Mike Elko and new wide receivers coach Holman Wiggins, leading to On3’s Sam Spiegelman’s official prediction for the future playmaker to sign with Texas A&M.

According to 247Sports, Bethel-Roman is posited as the 134th-ranked player in the 2025 recruiting cycle, the 27th-ranked wide receiver, and the 24th-ranked player in Texas. During his 2023 senior season at Ridge Point High School, Bethel-Roman recorded 49 receptions for 964 yards and 9 touchdowns through the air.

On Wednesday, the Aggies look to lock down three 2024 prospects, headlined by 5-star athlete Terry Bussey, 3-star OL Robert Bourdon, and now, Ashton Bethel-Roman.

Arkansas has released 2024 4-Star WR out of Missouri City (TX) from his LOI after recently visiting Texas A&M

Arkansas has released 2024 4-star WR Ashton Bethel-Roman from his letter of intent just a few weeks after visiting Texas A&M.

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class may not be finished adding prospects just yet, as it has been revealed that former Arkansas 4-star wide receiver commit Ashton Bethel-Romas has reportedly been released from his LOI (letter of intent) with the program, placing the Aggies back in contention.

According to TexAgs’ Ryan Brauninger, Bethel-Romas had filed his LOI release paperwork in January, separating himself from the Razorbacks last month. While nearly every program that offered the amending playmaker will be in play for his commitment, the Aggies may have the best chance as things currently stand.

After taking an official visit to College Station late last month, Aggies head coach Mike Elko and his staff, specifically new wide receivers coach and leader recruiter Holmon Wiggins, have kept in contact with Bethel-Roman during the entire process as the Missouri City, Texas pipeline, which includes current Miami Dolphins star running back De’Von Achane remains stronger than ever.

While 2024 5-star athlete Terry Bussey is reportedly down to signing with Texas A&M or LSU, Texas A&M’s 2024 cycle still needs another wide receiver prospect to pair with 3-star WR Ernest Campbell.
