Report: Former Texas A&M wide receivers coach has found a new home at Georgia State

According to college football reporter Matt Zenitz, Dameyune Craig is expected to be hired as an offensive assistant coach at Georgia State.

A former Texas A&M wide receivers coach from the Jimbo Fisher era has found a new home.

According to 247Sports & CBS Sports national college football reporter Matt Zenitz, Dameyune Craig is expected to be hired as an offensive assistant coach at Georgia State per sources. Craig spent the last six seasons in College Station coaching the Aggies wideouts since 2018.

Craig reunites with new Panthers head coach Dell McGee, who he played with at Auburn in the 1990s. McGee is also expected to hire Tigers analyst Jeremiah Wilson as defensive backs coach, Zenitz reported.

Before arriving in Aggieland, Craig had previous coaching stints with LSU (2004 & 2016), Miami Dolphins (2005), Tuskegee (2006-07), South Alabama (2008-09), Florida State (2010-12 & 2017) and Auburn (2013-15).

The native of Mobile, Alabama played quarterback with the Tigers from 1994-97. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers in 1998, where he played for four seasons until 2001. He also had a brief offseason stint with the Washington Redskins in 2002.

Dameyune Craig set to join staff at Georgia State

Craig will reunite with Dell McGee by joining his new staff at Georgia State.

Georgia State made a home run hire by naming former Auburn player [autotag]Dell McGee[/autotag] as its next head coach last month. McGee is quickly proving that he is the right man for the job by putting together a respectable coaching staff.

One of the first hires he has made involves a former Auburn quarterback and assistant coach. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reports that [autotag]Dameyune Craig[/autotag] will join Georgia State’s coaching staff as an offensive assistant.

Craig joins McGee’s staff after spending the last six seasons at Texas A&M, serving as wide receivers coach. While in College Station, he coached Evan Stewart, Moose Muhammad, and Ainias Smith to successful college careers.

After playing for the Tigers from 1994-97, and later served as a co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for [autotag]Gus Malzahn[/autotag]’s staff during the 2013 season. Auburn had three receivers haul in at least 200 yards during that season, with [autotag]Sammie Coates[/autotag] leading the way with 902 yards and seven touchdowns.

Craig has also served as an assistant coach at LSU, Tuskegee, South Alabama, and Florida State.

Is Auburn’s next offensive coordinator already on staff?

How far is Hugh Freeze willing to search for Philip Montgomery’s replacement?

Auburn head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] is committed to overhauling the entire offensive unit ahead of the 2024 season.

He has taken steps by recruiting blue-chip wide receivers, declaring a “wide-open” quarterback competition, and has decided not to retain offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery.

Who will Freeze bring in to control the Tigers’ offense next season? One writer at 247Sports feels that the top candidate already resides within the staff.

Nathan King of 247Sports recently dropped his 5 early names to watch for Auburn’s OC opening list and has placed current assistant to the head coach and quality control coach [autotag]Kent Austin[/autotag] at the top of the list.

King feels that Freeze will have a new identity within the offensive staff next season, which will allow Austin to make the move to an on-field coaching position. Austin followed Freeze to Auburn from Liberty ahead of the 2023 season, serving as co-offensive coordinator for the Flames from 2019-22.

We believe this is the candidate most likely to fill the vacant offensive assistant position at the moment. Auburn Undercover has been told Freeze will likely have a much bigger role in running the offense next season, and that could take the shape of him doing so as his own play caller, and hiring Austin as his QBs coach.

Prior to his time at Liberty, Austin was an offensive coordinator at Ole Miss and a head coach in the Canadian Football League.

According to King’s list, Ole Miss wide receivers coach [autotag]Derrick Nix[/autotag] and former Auburn quarterback [autotag]Dameyune Craig[/autotag] are also names to keep an eye on.

Texas A&M WR Coach Dameyune Craig will reportedly not be a part of Mike Elko’s staff

It has been reported that Texas A&M WR coach Dameyune Craig will not be retained on Mike Elko’s new staff ahead of the 2024 Season.

With the hiring of new Texas A&M Football head coach Mike Elko, swift changes would begin to take effect as soon as Tuesday, as several assistant coaches who served under then-head coach Jimbo Fisher will not be retained under Elko heading into the 2024 season.

First announced, former Auburn quarterback and Aggies wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig, who has been on staff since the 2018 season, has been relieved of his duties after five seasons, according to his wife, Neke Craig, who posted the news via Instagram on Tuesday.

Known for his superb recruiting prowess after helping the Aggies land top-tier players at the wide receiver position, including former five-star WR Evan Stewart, the lack of development at the position has been somewhat startling, as no A&M receiver under Jimbo Fisher and Craig has been selected in the NFL Draft, nor has any cracked the 900-yard receiving threshold in a single season.

Reporting such news is never surprising whenever a new coaching regime enters the picture, and even though the news will greatly sadden several players, this is a results-driven business.

We wish Dameyune Craig nothing but the best going forward.

Offensive Coordinator Prospects: Who could replace Austin Davis

Let’s take a look at some names for offensive coordinator.

With the news of Bryan Harsin expected return to the Auburn Tigers for the 2022 college football season, focus shifts to finding his fifth coordinator hire in 14 months.

Austin Davis was hired to run the offense and coach the quarterbacks but he stepped down abruptly prior to the whirlwind of speculation surrounding the head coach. With the dust almost settled, the head coach needs to move swiftly with this hire.

There are a few names that popped up as candidates the last time around and while some might still hold weight, we will cycle through a few names as potential candidates.

Perhaps even one that would be a pipedream, but what’s the worst thing that could happen if you make that phone call?

Our first hot board for offensive coordinator:

Auburn football: Top 10 passing yards in a season by a Tiger

Auburn has had some productive quarterbacks including Jarrett Stidham, Patrick Nix and Dameyune Craig during program history.

Auburn has had an array of types of quarterbacks from straight drop-back passers such as Patrick Nix, multiple threats such as Nick Marshall and, of course, the super-beast that was Cam Newton in the 2010 national title season.

Yet all of those guys had arms — in the case of Brandon Cox, a left arm — that could find receivers and put up yards and points on the board. But who has had the best passing season in Auburn history?

We take a look at the top 10 passing performances in a season by a Tiger quarterback.

From Pat Sullivan to Stan White to Bo Nix, a long list of talented quarterbacks have played in an Auburn uniform.

Auburn has had an illustrious list of quarterbacks play in the burnt orange and navy blue but only the best of the best appear on this list.

From Pat Sullivan winning the 1971 Heisman Trophy to Bo Nix currently slinging it down the field for the Tigers, Auburn fans have cheered on some amazing signal-callers.

Here are the top 10 players with the most career passing yards in Auburn program history.

Auburn football: Top 10 passing yards in a single game by a Tiger

From Patrick Nix to Dameyune Craig to Nick Marshall, Auburn has had some quarterbacks throw for a lot of yards in a single game.

For much of its history, Auburn has been known for running the ball and producing great running backs while the quarterback position was much more of a game manager.

That hasn’t been the case for the past 25-plus years, though, as the Tigers have had some quality passers coming through the Plains. From Patrick Nix to Jason Campbell to Cam Newton, Auburn fans have seen some exciting signal-callers put on the burnt orange and navy blue.

Yet who has had the best games of them all? Here are the top 10 passing yards by an Auburn quarterback in a single game with three quarterbacks making the list twice and one surprise omission.
