If the Atlanta Falcons have any chance at making the playoffs this season, it must start with a Week 3 win over the Chicago Bears. Dan Quinn’s 0-2 squad got off to another rough start, but it’s much too early to write off the team.

WATCH: Jon Gruden raves about Saints QB/TE/football player Taysom Hill

Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden is a big fan of his Monday Night Football opponent, New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Taysom Hill.

Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden just loves football, man. When previewing his team’s Week 2 matchup, Gruden waxed poetic on New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Taysom Hill as the epitome of a position-less “football player” who puts as much enthusiasm into the game as Gruden feels himself.

“I don’t remember a quarterback who can throw and run read options, and then line up at tight end,” Gruden said, grinning. “This guy’s a weapon, he’s a special teams demon, he can be the personal protector on the punt team. He’s a great football player.”

Hill lined up at ten different spots in 2019 (up from nine positions in 2018) and caught the first pass thrown in the 2020 season for a 14-yard gain. And Gruden is right to point out Hill’s proficiency in the kicking game, even if his snaps count fell to just 12 plays after he averaged 23 special teams snaps per game in 2019 (not counting the games Drew Brees missed to injury, totaling 31 snaps in those five contests).

Beyond his own stats on returning kickoffs (with a career average of 24.0 yards per return, and a personal-best of 47 yards), Hill has blocked a pair of punts against the division-rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers (in 2018) and Atlanta Falcons (in 2019) while collecting 13 combined tackles in the kicking game. He’s a force, and the Saints clearly want to keep him in positions to thrive. And that’s keeping Gruden’s attention.

“You know a lot of guys call it, ‘He’s a football player?'” Gruden continued, pantomiming quotation marks. “This guy’s a ‘football player.’ He can play anywhere on the ‘football’ field. And you gotta be aware of No. 7, because he can ruin the game. And they have a great package to keep us off his scent. You know you just can’t prepare for him, [you have to prepare] for anything. He’s just a ‘football player.'”

We’ll see what sort of heroics Hill has in store for Gruden’s Raiders very soon. In Week 1, he ran three times to pick up 13 yards on the ground and connected with Alvin Kamara on a 38-yard completion, in addition to his opening-drive 14-yard reception. He’s already padding out his impressive highlight reel, and from the sound of it, Gruden is as eager to see the finished product as anyone else.

Notre Dame in NFL – Eifert’s first touchdown as Jaguar

Tyler Eifert went up and got it for his first touchdown reception as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Tyler Eifert made a habit of making bit catches during his time at Notre Dame and eventually became a first round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals after his time with the Fighting Irish.

In seven years with the Bengals, Eifert had some issues staying healthy but was a touchdown machine when available, scoring 24 touchdowns in 60 career games.

This past off-season Eifert signed a free agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars and today he snagged his first touchdown with the squad.

Eifert ended the game with three receptions for 36 total yards but it wasn’t enough for the Jaguars as they fell on the road to the Titans, 33-30 as Jacksonville is now 1-1 on the season.

Watch – Julian Love’s second career NFL interception

For the second time in his NFL career Julian Love recorded an interception and it’s his second against the same quarterback.

Late last fall former Notre Dame corner back Julian Love recorded his first NFL interception against his hometown Chicago Bears on the day he made his first career start.

Sunday saw Love and the Giants return to Soldier Field again to take on the Bears and for the second time in his career, Julian Love intercepted an NFL pass.

And for the second time, it was against Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

Despite the takeaway the Giants were held to just three points on the drive and eventually lost to the Bears 17-13 as their last minute drive ended just yards short of the end zone.

The Bears moved to 2-0 on the young season while the Giants fell to 0-2.

WATCH: Los Angeles Rams rookie Van Jefferson makes a sweet catch

In the first quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles Jefferson made an impressive sliding 21-yard gain on a pass from quarterback Jared Goff

Former Florida Gators continue to fill the fans’ Twitter feeds with excellent plays in the professional ranks this Sunday. Rookie receiver Van Jefferson, who made an amazing haul last week for his first career NFL catch, has continued his brilliance in his second game in the league with the Los Angeles Rams.

In the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Jefferson made an impressive sliding 21-yard gain on a pass from quarterback Jared Goff which took his team down to the 5-yard line. Los Angeles scored two plays later, along with a successful PAT by kicker Samuel Sloman, to up their lead to 14-3 with the clock winding down on the first frame.

Jefferson caught three passes for 39 yards on three targeted throws in the first half of the game, including the one featured above, and the Rams took a 21-16 lead into the locker room at halftime thanks in part to his efforts.

WATCH: 49ers tight end Jordan Reed takes it to the house on 18-yard TD catch

Former Gators have been making waves in the NFL recently and on this Week 2 Sunday the highlights are rolling in with Jordan Reed’s catch.

Former Gators have been making waves in the National Football League recently and early on this Week 2 Sunday the highlights are rolling in. The latest former UF player getting in on the action is San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed.

In the second quarter of a game against the New York Jets — who feature a pair of superb former Florida defensive backs in Marcus Maye and Brian Poole — Reed caught a pass from Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo at about the 14-yard line near the left sideline on a play that began at the 18-yard marker and scampered into the end zone with a leaping dive towards the left endzone pylon. The touchdown added six points to San Fran’s 7-3 lead and kicker Robbie Gould added a PAT to up the score to 14-7.

Reed is now in his seventh year in the NFL and first with the 49ers after spending his first six professional seasons with the team formerly known as the Washington Redskins.

WATCH: Baldy’s Breakdowns highlights Saints offensive line vs. Bucs

The New Orleans Saints offensive line earned a shout-out from NFL analyst Brian Baldinger for their efforts against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

[jwplayer ZrW4tn7l-ThvAeFxT]

Nobody cuts a better highlight reel than Brian Baldinger. The veteran NFL analyst spent a dozen years in the league before taking a turn into broadcasting with NFL Network, and now he spends his spare time poring over game tape to talk up underrated players and units after each week’s slate of games.

On Wednesday, Baldinger turned his attention to the New Orleans Saints offensive line. While they had a few miscues against a talented Tampa Bay Buccaneers front (and while missing first-round draft pick Cesar Ruiz, expected to start at right guard), Baldinger took time to explain just how special the big men up front in New Orleans can be.

“The execution by the offensive line out on the perimeter, down the field, on this touchdown run, you can’t do it any better. They did it on most of the big plays they had,” Baldinger said, pointing out key blocks by left guard Andrus Peat and center Erik McCoy.

He then pointed out a series of blocks in space by Peat, McCoy, and right tackle Ryan Ramczyk on a screen pass to wide receiver Deonte Harris. The blockers did their jobs and cleared a lane for a 17-yard gain.

“It’s like ‘Bowling for Dollars,'” Baldinger said. “I mean this group, moving this well downfield? Give ’em a game ball, for crying out loud.”

Improving their ability to throw blocks away from the line of scrimmage was a point of emphasis for the Saints this offseason. They picked Ruiz and released three-time Pro Bowl alternate Larry Warford aiming to get more athletic up front, and on paper they have one of the fastest offensive lines you’ll see in the NFL.

That agility is critical for blockers getting to their spots on time to spring Harris or Alvin Kamara free into the open field, gaining chunks of yardage, and we should see more of it once everyone is healthy and practicing together. These early highlights from Baldinger are a proof-of-concept; here’s hoping Ruiz can get on the field soon so we can see the full picture.

Dan Quinn on Falcons’ Week 1 loss: ‘We’re mad as hell’

The Atlanta Falcons were throttled in the second half of Sunday’s 38-25 loss to the Seattle Seahawks and following the game, Dan Quinn just wanted to get back to work.

As a head coach, sometimes there’s simply nothing to say following an ugly loss. The Atlanta Falcons were throttled in the second half of Sunday’s 38-25 loss to the Seattle Seahawks and following the game, Dan Quinn just wanted to get back to work.

And there’s certainly work to be done. The Falcons were shredded by Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, but somehow couldn’t keep up despite three receivers — Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage — going over 100 yards.

Quinn said he was disappointed in the performance, and that the team was “mad as hell,” but will look forward to getting back on the field next weekend, per team reporter William McFadden.

Falcons fans are somewhat — if not permanently — disillusioned with this team’s lack of mental toughness when the game hangs in the balance. Atlanta went 0-for-4 on fourth-downs, while the Seahawks’ biggest play came on a gutsy 4th-and-5 deep shot that led to a DK Metcalf touchdown.

Looking at the bigger picture, though, this was a tough team to open the season against and the Falcons have plenty of time to fix things. It won’t get any easier with a road trip to Dallas in Week 2 to take on the Cowboys.
