Former Raiders DE Chandler Jones posts open apology, says ‘feeling much better’

Chandler Jones says he’s ‘feeling much better now’ and offered an open apology.

It’s been a difficult last few months for Chandler Jones. Last September, just prior to the start of the season, he was dismissed from practices for personal reasons. And never returned.

It soon became apparent he was having some serious mental issues. He began posting strange videos online rife with strange conspiracies and even stranger behavior.

In late September he was arrested for violating a restraining order against him. The next day the Raiders released him. A sad state of affairs for the former All Pro pass rusher.

Since then, the strange and worrying videos only got worse. He was clearly not in a good place. A very concerning place.

Now some five months later, he sounds like he may be coming out the other side of it.

On February 12th he posted on social media that it was a “new day”. Then he posted it again two days later. Followed by a message saying he was feeling better and offered an open apology.

Is it possible he is truly on the mend? That is the hope. While there were many who just chose to either point and laugh or even attempt to instigate his erratic behavior, a great many people remained supportive that he could get the help he needed.

Mental health is a subject that has come into the forefront in NFL circles in recent years. As Marshawn Lynch used to say “take care of your mentals.”

Football can be a brutal sport that takes its toll on players both physically and mentally. And many have worked hard to remove the stigma for those who struggle with it and encourage them to seek help.

We are all rooting for you to beat this, Chandler. Get well and stay well.

Ex-Patriot Chandler Jones drops song dedicated to Bill Belichick

After hearing the news of the Patriots and Bill Belichick split, Chandler Jones dropped a song to honor his former coach.

Former New England Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones posted a video of himself singing a song dedicated to his former coach, Bill Belichick, who officially parted ways with the Patriots after 24 seasons.

Jones was drafted by Belichick out of Syracuse at No. 21 overall in 2012, which was the same year the Patriots took Dont’a Hightower out of Alabama. It was a double lottery pick for the Patriots with both Jones and Hightower emerging into immediate impact players on defense.

Jones didn’t stick around as long as Hightower, but he did help the Patriots organization win its fourth Super Bowl. On Thursday, he hopped on social media to pay homage to his former coach in a unique way.

The Patriots will now turn the page without their legendary coach with the first task being hiring a new coach and general manager, which are two things the team hasn’t had in a very long time.

Las Vegas Raiders releasing troubled Chandler Jones

The Raiders are cutting ties with troubled Chandler Jones

The sad saga of Chandler Jones took another sorry turn on Saturday with news the Las Vegas Raiders are releasing the troubled defensive lineman.

The week has seen Jones post bizarre videos on social media and then get arrested.

He was arrested Friday after allegedly violating a domestic violence temporary protective order.

The team hoped he gets help and posted on social media a message to that point.

Per ESPN.com:

Jones was in the second season of a three-year, $51 million contract he signed last year. As a result of his release, the Raiders are subject to approximately $12 million in dead money against the salary cap both in 2023 and 2024, as the team restructured Jones’ deal in March to create additional cap space.

Raiders DE Chandler Jones arrested in Las Vegas

Chandler Jones has been in the news over the last few days after several of his social media posts made unsubstantiated claims about members of the front office and the coaching staff. On Thursday morning, he was arrested, according to TMZ Sports.

According to Andrew Groover of NFL Media, Jones allegedly had two violations of a domestic temporary restraining order. He was released on bond and has a court date of Dec. 4.

The Raiders put Jones on the non-football injury list two weeks ago, which means that he was scheduled to miss at least four games.

Jones has not practiced with the team during the regular season. He was sent away from the team after several social media posts criticizing the ownership and front office of the Raiders.

Jones signed a three-year, $51 million deal with the Raiders during the 2022 offseason. He recorded 4.5 sacks in his first season with the team, starting 15 games.

Raiders sign DE Isaac Rochell after Chandler Jones placed on NFI list

With Chandler Jones on the NFI list, the Raiders have signed DE Isaac Rochell to the active roster

After Chandler Jones missed the first two games of the season while he works through some personal issues, the Raiders pulled the trigger this week and placed him on the Non-Football Illness list.

Placement on NFI means Jones will miss at least four games. With a roster spot open and depth issues at defensive end, the Raiders officially signed Isaac Rochell to the active roster.

Rochell spent the offseason with the team, and impressed in camp and preseason. He was signed to the practice squad and elevated for the first two games of the season to replace Jones. Now with Jones officially out, Rochell is officially in.

To fill Rochell’s spot on the practice squad, the Raiders added LB Mykal Walker.

Raiders placing DE Chandler Jones on Non-Football Illness list, not ruling out return

Chandler Jones has been placed on the Non-Football Illness list. The Raiders are not ruling out a return at some point.

It’s been a while since we saw Chandler Jones on the field for the Raiders. Whether that be on the practice field or the game field. And there are no indications we will see him anytime soon.

Where we have seen him quite a bit is on his social media platforms. Railing about being “provoked” and kept away from the team facility by the team. And for reasons that don’t bear repeating because, frankly, there is nothing about it that seems credible. Rather they come off as the rantings of someone who is suffering from a mental illness of some sort and needs to seek some help.

It’s appropriate, therefore, that today the Raiders will place Jones on the Non-Football Illness list. This according to NFL media’s Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport noted that the team is not currently distancing themselves from the veteran edge rusher and appears to still hold out hope he can figure himself out and return to the team at some point this season.

The placement on the NFI list means he will miss at least the next four games before he’s eligible to return.

Raiders vs Bills final injury report: WR Jakobi Meyers, DE Chandlers Jones both ruled OUT

Raiders will officially be without WR Jakobi Meyers and DE Chandlers Jones vs Bills Sunday.

After Jakobi Meyers and Chandlers Jones both missed the entire week of practices, the Raiders have ruled both players out for Sunday’s game in Buffalo.

Meyers suffered a concussion late in the season opener against the Broncos and was unable to practice all week.

His loss is significant considering he led the team last week with nine catches on ten targets for 81 yards and two touchdowns.

Candidates to replace Meyers as starting outside receiver include DeAndre Carter and Kristian Wilkerson. Meanwhile we could see increased snaps from Hunter Renfrow and perhaps the first appearance of rookie Tre Tucker who was inactive for the opener.

Jones has not practiced with the team for the past two weeks while he goes through some personal issues that had him putting out some very concerning social media posts. Still no word out his status going forward, but it doesn’t look good.

Last week the defensive end spot was filled by the combo of Malcolm Koonce and rookie Tyree Wilson with defensive tackle Jerry Tillery also sliding outside at times.

All other Raiders players who made appearances on the injury report this week were removed and are good to go.

Raiders, Bills Wednesday injury report: Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers both miss practice

Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers both miss practice Wednesday

Jimmy Garoppolo was without his two favorite targets from the season opener for Wednesday’s practice. And a third receiver as well.

Jakobi Meyers — who led the team with nine catches for 81 yards and a TD — is in the concussion protocol, so his absence was not unexpected. Davante Adams joined him on the sideline with a foot injury, as did DeAndre Carter with a knee injury.

Along with the wide receiving corps being decimated, the defense was missing a couple starters as well.

Garoppolo himself was limited with an ankle injury he suffered in the game that didn’t seem to hinder him. Or it certainly didn’t on his game-sealing first down scramble.

Once again without Chandler Jones was out for personal reasons as he decides whether he still wants to be on the team. And safety Tre’von Moehrig was out while dealing with a thumb injury.

If Jones doesn’t return this week, he would once again be replaced by the combination of Malcolm Koonce and Tyree Wilson.

Raiders re-sign veteran DE Jordan Willis to practice squad

Jordan Willis is back with the Raiders

At least from my perspective, the Raiders cutting Jordan Willis after training camp was a bit of a surprise. The veteran former 49ers edge rusher signed on in Las Vegas this offseason and had a decent camp and preseason. But ultimately he was among the team’s cuts to get down to 53 players.

While ultimately he may make his way back to the Raiders’ regular season roster, the team got one step closer to that possibility today by adding him to their practice squad.

With Chandler Jones having some off-field personal issues that had him miss the season opener and his future with the team uncertain, the Raiders activated DE Isaac Rochell from the practice squad on Sunday for depth purposes.

It seems very possible Willis would be a strong candidate to be called up to replace him in Buffalo in week two. And should the team make an official roster move regarding Jones, Willis could find his way onto the regular season roster after all.

Raiders, Broncos Week 1 final injury report: Brandon Facyson, Chandler Jones OUT, DeAndre Carter Questionable

Chandler Jones and Brandon Facyson officially OUT, DeAndre Carter (knee) is Questionable

The first final injury report for the Raiders 2023 season is out. And with it are Chandler Jones and Brandon Facyson. Leaving the Raiders without two potential starters on defense.

Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels announced at his press conference that he didn’t expect Jones or Facyson to play Sunday. This just makes it official.

Jones is out for personal reasons. He made a series of disturbing and concerning posts on social media this week and his status is week-to-week at this point. Rookie seventh overall pick Tyree Wilson and third year man Malcolm Koonce should get the bulk of the snaps in Jones’s absence.

Facyson missed a good portion of training camp and now his shin injury has officially moved into the regular season. Who starts at outside corner opposite Marcus Peters is not entirely known yet.

Carter was limited all week, which would suggest he could go on Sunday.

For the Broncos, it’s starting wideout Jerry Jeudy cornerback Riley Moss who are Questionable. Both were limited all week. Jeudy with a hamstring injury and Moss with an abdomen issue.
