Broncos injuries: Greg Dulcich still working on side field

Broncos TE Greg Dulcich (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 21. He still hasn’t returned to practice.

Denver Broncos tight end Greg Dulcich (hamstring) continued to work on a side field when the team returned to practice Wednesday ahead of a Week 14 showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Dulcich has been on injured reserve since Oct. 21. Once he returns to practice, the team will have a 21-day window to active him to the 53-man roster.

Everyone else on the active roster participated in Wednesday’s practice, but five players were limited. View the team’s complete Wednesday injury report below.

Broncos might get reinforcements on the injury front this week

Broncos WR Brandon Johnson is eligible to return from injured reserve this week. TE Greg Dulcich became eligible to return last week.

The Denver Broncos might get some reinforcements on the injury front this week ahead of their showdown with the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Broncos tight end Greg Dulcich (hamstring) was eligible to return from injured reserve last week, but the team did not open up his 21-day practice window. Denver coach Sean Payton said two weeks ago that he expects Dulcich to return this season, but he did not give an exact timeline.

Meanwhile, Broncos wide receiver Brandon Johnson (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve five weeks ago, and he has missed the minimum four games and is now eligible to return to the active roster.

Denver’s passing game hasn’t skipped a beat while Dulcich and Johnson have been sidelined. Over the last four games, quarterback Russell Wilson has thrown seven touchdown passes with zero interceptions. Adam Trautman has stepped up at tight end and Lil’Jordan Humphrey has gotten more looks at receiver.

Dulcich and Johnson are talented players, though, so the Broncos will be eager to welcome them back to the offense whenever they’re cleared to play.

Broncos injuries: Will TE Greg Dulcich return this season?

Broncos coach Sean Payton expects to see TE Greg Dulcich back on the field this season. “There’s a process … but he’s making progress.”

Will Denver Broncos tight end Greg Dulcich (hamstring) return to the field at some point this season?

“I think we’ll see him this year, yeah,” coach Sean Payton said last week.

Dulcich is eligible to return from injured reserve for the team’s Week 12 showdown with the Cleveland Browns next week. However, it remains to be seen if Dulcich will return as soon as his window opens.

“There’s a process,” Payton said. “I know he’s one of those guys that’s working his tail off. He’s seeing specialists.

“You look closely at — you also look closely at other things like gait. How much weight should he be at? He’s a little heavier than he was in college like most players. All that stuff we’re working on, but he’s making progress.”

Elsewhere on the injury front for Denver, safety P.J. Locke (ankle) and guard Ben Powers (foot) remained sidelined for a second day in a row. Kareem Jackson seems to be in line to start at safety. If Powers is not cleared before Sunday, Quinn Bailey would be the most likely candidate to start in his place.

Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (hip) was also added to the injury report Thursday as a limited participant.

The team’s complete Thursday injury report can be seen below.

Dulcich might be a candidate for injured reserve, but he’s still on the active roster at the time of publication. If the Broncos place him on IR, Dulcich will have to sit out four games before being eligible to return.

Placing the tight end on IR would open up a roster spot for outside linebacker Baron Browning (knee), who fully practiced this week and appears to be ready to be activated from the reserve/PUP list to the 53-man roster.

Broncos making roster moves ahead of Packers game

The Broncos made two roster moves earlier this week and two more moves could be on deck.

The Denver Broncos will have made several changes to the 53-man roster by the time Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers arrives.

The Broncos already made two roster moves earlier this week when wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster and fellow receiver Michael Bandy was re-signed to the practice squad on Wednesday.

Bandy was cut from the practice squad last week to make room for Humphrey, who was cut from the active roster to make room for tight end Greg Dulcich to come off injured reserve.

After the team cut pass rusher Frank Clark, Humphrey is now back on the active roster and Bandy is back on the practice squad. Looking ahead, the Broncos likely have two more roster moves on deck ahead of Sunday’s game against the Packers.

Denver is expected to elevate pass rusher Baron Browning (knee) from the reserve/physically unable to perform list to the 53-man roster. To do so, the Broncos will need to create a spot on the roster for Browning.

One potential way Denver could open up a spot would be to place Dulcich back on injured reserve after he suffered another hamstring injury in Week 6. Dulcich going on IR and Browning returning to the active roster are two potential moves to watch for this weekend.

Two other players to keep an eye on are running back Hassan Hall and tight end John Samuel Shenker, who tired out for the team on Tuesday. Neither player has been signed at the time of publication, but they might be considered for the practice squad or reserve/future contracts later this season.

Broncos injuries: Greg Dulcich might go back on injured reserve

Broncos TE Greg Dulcich (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday and the team is considering placing him on injured reserve again.

One week after returning from injured reserve, Denver Broncos tight end Greg Dulcich might end up back on IR later this week.

Dulcich (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday and coach Sean Payton said after practice that the team is still deciding if he will go back on IR. If he goes on IR, Dulcich will have to sit out four games before being elibible to return.

Elsewhere on the injury front, safeties Justin Simmons (hip) and Kareem Jackson (neck) were limited Wednesday.

On the roster front, wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey was promoted back to the 53-man roster and receiver Michael Bandy was re-signed to the practice squad.

Denver’s complete Wednesday injury report can be seen below.

The Broncos will practice again on Thursday and Friday before releasing a final injury report with game statuses on Friday.

Broncos TE Greg Dulcich frustrated with recurring hamstring injury

“I know he’s frustrated,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said of Greg Dulcich’s latest hamstring injury. “It’s been a recurring issue for him.”

After sitting out four games with a hamstring injury, Denver Broncos tight end Greg Dulcich returned to the lineup in Week 6 only to suffer another hamstring injury that forced him to exit the game.

Dulcich is now in danger of missing another game after his latest setback. Broncos coach Sean Payton was asked Monday if the team put the tight end back on the field too soon after he returned from injured reserve last week.

“We went through the protocols, and we felt like we were pretty patient,” Payton said. “You rely on the athlete; you rely on the medical team and the experts. You go through the recovery and the rehab. You spend a lot of time really testing before you ever go out into game conditions.

“It’s easy to look back on that and say, ‘Hey, was it too soon?’[With] all the information we and the feedback, he felt confident. We regroup with him right now and get him quickly up to speed to recover and we go from there. It’s unfortunate because I know he’s frustrated. It’s been a recurring issue for him, specifically with the hamstrings.”

Dulcich missed seven games with a hamstring injury as a rookie last season and he missed four more games this year before reaggravating his hamstring in Week 6. In two games this season, the tight end has hauled in three receptions for 25 yards. Perhaps the team will be a little more cautious with Dulcich’s return to action timeline after this latest setback.

Broncos made several roster moves before ‘Thursday Night Football’

The Broncos activated TE Greg Dulcich (hamstring) from injured reserve in time for Thursday’s game against the Chiefs.

The Denver Broncos made several roster moves this week ahead of a Thursday Night Football showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs.

First, the Broncos released wide receiver Michael Bandy from the practice squad on Tuesday. After that, Denver released wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey from the 53-man roster on Wednesday,

The Broncos then activated tight end Greg Dulcich from injured reserve to the 53-man roster on Thursday. Dulcich sat out the last four games on IR after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 1.

Humphrey was re-signed to the practice squad on Thursday, taking the spot formerly held by Bandy. Humphrey and defensive lineman Tyler Lancaster were elevated to the game-day roster on Thursday afternoon. They will revert back to the practice squad after the game.

Meanwhile, Broncos outside linebacker Baron Browning (knee) remains on injured reserve and he has been ruled out for Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Browning might be a candidate to return to the active roster ahead of a Week 7 showdown with the Green Bay Packers.

See a quick recap of Denver’s roster moves this week below.

Broncos release WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey, hope to re-sign him to practice squad

The Broncos released WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey, but he is a candidate to return on the practice squad.

The Denver Broncos released wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey on Wednesday, but it will be a procedural move if other NFL teams don’t get in the way.

The Broncos already created an open spot for Humphrey on their practice squad when they released wide receiver Michael Bandy on Tuesday. Now, so long as no other teams sign him, Denver can re-sign Humphrey to the practice squad with the open spot created by Bandy’s release.

The timing of Humphrey’s demotion to the practice squad likely suggests that a pass-catcher is about to return to the 53-man roster. Broncos tight end Greg Dulcich (hamstring) is still on injured reserve at the time of publication, but he’s listed as questionable on the injury report for Thursday’s game.

After releasing Humphrey, Denver now has an open spot on the active roster for Dulcich to officially return from IR in time for a Week 6 showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs. That move could become official on Thursday.

4 Browns trade targets if Broncos decide to blow it up

Could the Browns go shopping in the bargain bin of another team’s misery?

While his record as a drafter is still a bit up in the air, the general manager of the Cleveland Browns, Andrew Berry, has been the king of acquiring talent on the trade market for cheap. And as the Denver Broncos have started the season 0-3 with head coach Sean Payton potentially wanting his own guys, could Berry and the Browns look to bargain bin shop in the graveyard of another team’s misery? Could players like offensive tackle Garett Bolles and wide receiver (who the Browns have previously had interest in) find their way to the trade block?

For a team without a first round pick once again in the 2024 NFL Draft, Berry will have to get creative in adding talent to the roster. He has done so by stealing away players like wide receivers Amari Cooper and Elijah Moore, and defensive end Za’Darius Smith, and they will not be the last.

Who could Berry and the Browns target on the putrid roster of the Broncos should they choose to blow it up after a horrid start to their season?
