Georgia football player card: LB Rian Davis

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Rian Davis played in seven games throughout the 2020 college football season

Rian Davis, Linebacker (No. 0):

Class: Redshirt sophomore

Height: 6-2

Weight: 230 pounds

Hometown: Apopka, Florida

High School: Wekiva High School

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Davis played in seven games during the 2020 college football season. He recorded one tackle and primarily contributed as a special teams player. Davis changed to jersey No. 0 from No. 12 this offseason.

The Wekiva High School star redshirted during his freshman year in 2019. He appeared in the home loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Davis came to Athens as a four-star recruit and a top 100 prospect. He tore his ACL as a senior in high school (four games in). Davis, an Orlando-area recruit, enrolled early at the University of Georgia and was healthy enough to participate in spring practice before his freshman season.

Davis will be a depth piece on Dan Lanning’s defense, which rotates a high number of defenders every season. Georgia has a stacked linebackers room once again.

The former four-star recruit will compete with returning linebackers Quay Walker, Nakobe Dean, Trezmen Marshall and Channing Tindall for playing time at the inside linebacker position.

MJ Sherman, Linebacker (No. 8):

Class: Freshman

Height: 6-2

Weight: 235 pounds

Hometown: Baltimore, Maryland

High School: St. John’s College

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Mekhail “MJ” Sherman came to Athens as a four-star recruit. Sherman plays primarily outside linebacker, but is quite a versatile player. With his excellent size (six-foot-two and 235 pounds) and speed (4.5 forty yard dash) Sherman can play both inside and outside linebacker.

Sherman will be yet another versatile piece in Georgia’s stacked linebacker core. The Dawgs have Jermaine Johnson, Azeez Ojulari, Adam Anderson, Nolan Smith, Robert Beal, and more returning at outside linebacker.

Sherman tore his ACL during his junior season, but bounced back his senior year and had one of the best high school seasons of any outside linebacker in the country. He’s certainly got the talent to play as a true freshman.

Sherman has been training hard this offseason. He’s got NFL level talent.

Georgia Bulldogs player card: OLB Walter Grant

Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker/defensive end Walter Grant came to Athens as a four-star recruit

Walter Grant, Outside Linebacker (#13):

Class: Senior

Height: 6-4

Weight: 245 pounds

Hometown: Cairo, Georgia

High School: Cairo High School

Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker/defensive end Walter Grant came to Athens as a four-star recruit. Grant has played in 41 games over his three season career at the University of Georgia.

Walter Grant has 37 tackles and 1.5 sacks throughout his career. He’s racked up 5.5 tackles for a loss as well.

Grant played running back and defense in high school for Cairo. He played running back during Georgia’s spring drills last season, but never played offense during a game.

Grant will be a part of Georgia’s stacked linebacker core. The Dawgs have Jermaine Johnson, Azeez Ojulari, Adam Anderson, Nolan Smith, Robert Beal, and more returning at outside linebacker. Grant is a key special teams player for the Bulldogs as well.

UGA football player card: LB Miles Miccichi

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Miles Miccichi walked on to the football team in 2018 and recorded a 4.0 GPA in 2019.

Miles Miccichi, Linebacker (No. 55):

Class: Redshirt sophomore

Height: 6-1

Weight: 227 pounds

Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia

High School: Lakeside High School

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Miles Miccichi walked on to the football team in 2018. He redshirted as a freshman that season and has primarily played for the scout team during the past two seasons.

Impressively, Miccichi was one of only 26 student-athletes at the University of Georgia to earn a 4.0 GPA in 2019.

Miccichi’s lack of playing time can be attributed to the depth Dan Lanning and Georgia have built on their elite defense. He’ll battle for playing time with Monty Rice, Nakobe Dean, Rian Davis, Trezmen Marshall, Quay Walker and more at the inside linebacker position.

UGA football player card: LB Channing Tindall

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Channing Tindall came to the University of Georgia as a four-star recruit from Columbia, SC.

Channing Tindall, Linebacker (No. 41):

Class: Junior

Height: 6-2

Weight: 218 pounds

Hometown: Columbia, South Carolina

High School: Spring Valley High School

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Channing Tindall came to the University of Georgia as a four-star recruit. Tindall played in eleven games last season as an inside linebacker and special teams player. Tindall recorded 1.5 sacks and 9 tackles during his sophomore season.

He saw more playing time as a freshman, where he played in all 14 games and ended up with 17 tackles and two sacks. Tindall’s decrease in playing time can be attributed to the depth Dan Lanning and Georgia have built on their elite defense.

Tindall was a cog in the top run-stopping defense in the country in 2019. He’ll battle for playing time with Monty Rice, Nakobe Dean, Rian Davis, Trezmen Marshall, Quay Walker and more at the inside linebacker position.

UGA football player card: LB Robert Beal

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Robert Beal removed his name from the NCAA transfer portal earlier this offseason

Robert Beal, Linebacker (No. 33):

Class: Junior

Height: 6-4

Weight: 244 pounds

Hometown: Norcross, Georgia

High School: Peachtree Ridge High School

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Robert Beal removed his name from the NCAA transfer portal earlier this offseason. Beal came to Georgia as a talented four-star recruit. He has the potential to provide pressure off the edge.

Beal played in only four games last season. Beal played much more as a freshman in 2019, when he played in 11 of 14 games and recording a sack.

Beal will compete with Adam Anderson, Nolan Smith, Jermaine Johnson, Rian Davis, Trezmen Marshall, and more for playing time at outside linebacker. Perhaps the easiest area for Georgia’s elite defense to improve is in pass rush. UGA finished 60th in the country with 31.0 sacks last season.

Georgia football player card: LB Monty Rice

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Monty Rice finished the 2019 season as a second team All-SEC performer

Monty Rice, Linebacker (No. 32):

Class: Senior

Height: 6-1

Weight: 235 pounds

Hometown: Huntsville, Alabama

High School: James Clemens High School

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Monty Rice finished the 2019 season as a second team All-SEC performer. Rice racked up a team best 89 tackles last season. He helped Georgia have the top run defense in the country in 2019.

Rice will start at inside linebacker for Georgia next season. He’s a solid NFL Draft prospect and surprised some when he decided to return to Athens. Rice has only missed five games in his career.

He came to Athens as a lowly rated four-star or three-star recruit depending on the recruiting service. Rice was a big reason UGA didn’t allow a rushing touchdown last season:

Rice will lead an elite defense once again in 2020. Georgia returns key players at every level of the defense. Dan Lanning and the Bulldog defense will be the strength of the team.

Georgia football player card: LB Quay Walker

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Quay Walker came to the UGA as a four-star recruit. He also played basketball for Crisp County High School.

Quay Walker, Linebacker (No. 25):

Class: Junior

Height: 6-4

Weight: 240 pounds

Hometown: Cordele, Georgia

High School: Crisp County High School

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Quay Walker came to the University of Georgia as a four-star recruit. He also played basketball for Crisp County High School. Walker recorded 23 tackles last season, including a sack.

Walker has played in all but one game throughout his career. Kirby Smart and the Georgia coaching staff considered him one of the most improved players on the team in 2019.

Walker had one of the most entertaining commitments in recent memory:

Walker should have a decent sized role for Dan Lanning’s defense in 2020. Walker can help fill in for some of the missed snaps and production from NFL Draft pick Tae Crowder.

Walker, Trezmen Marshall, Nakobe Dean, and Nate McBride will compete for playing time at linebacker. Returning stud Monty Rice is projected to start at the other inside linebacker position.

Georgia football player card: OLB Matthew Brown

Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker Matthew Brown walked on to the team in 2018.

Matthew Brown, Outside Linebacker (No. 24):

Class: Redshirt sophomore

Height: 6-2

Weight: 210 pounds

Hometown: Guyton, Georgia

High School: South Effingham High School

Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker Matthew Brown walked on to the team in 2018. He redshirted that season and went on to participate in UGA’s spring of 2019.

Brown won the High Senior GPA at his high school before coming to Athens. He also played basketball and ran track in high school. He faces a lot of competition at outside linebacker, but may be able to crack the rotation as an upperclassman.

We missed G-Day too Matthew Brown!

Georgia football player card: LB Nate McBride

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Nate McBride has played in all 43 games he’s been eligible for.

Nate McBride, Linebacker (No. 22):

Class: Senior

Height: 6-2

Weight: 223 pounds

Hometown: Vidalia, Georgia

High School: Vidalia High School

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Nate McBride has played in all 43 games that he’s been eligible for throughout the first three seasons of his career. McBride is durable and plays a lot of special teams snaps.

He came to Athens as a four-star recruit and is looking to finish out his collegiate career on a sweet note. He played track in addition to football in high school.

He’s accumulated 20 tackles over his career including one in the Rose Bowl against Oklahoma. McBride will have an opportunity to see more playing time in 2020 with the departure of Tae Crowder. He’ll have to battle Nakobe Dean for a spot on the field. He could work his way into the large rotation Dan Lanning likes to utilize.

He stepped up versus Tennessee last season en route to a three-tackle performance:

McBride has a great take on his lack of playing time despite being a big-time recruit. Way to stay positive Nate!
