Falcons sign WR recently let go by Broncos; Bucs add ex-Denver DL

The Falcons signed ex-Broncos WR David Sills to a reserve/future contract and the Bucs added defensive lineman Adam Gotsis.

It didn’t take long for David Sills to land on his feet.

After having his practice squad contract with the Denver Broncos expire on Monday, the wide receiver signed a reserve/future contract with the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire.

Sills (6-3, 211 pounds) spent the last two years on Denver’s practice squad. Before that, he spent time with the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants. Sills has 13 career receptions for 123 yards in 16 games, including three appearances with the Broncos during the 2023 season.

Elsewhere on the ex-Denver player front, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed defensive lineman Adam Gotsis to a reserve/future contract. Gotsis (6-4, 290 pounds) was picked by the Broncos in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft. He spent the first four years of his career in Denver before stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts.

Sills was one of three practice squad players who did not receive reserve/future deals from the Broncos at the end of the 2024 season, joined by tight end Donald Parham and offensive tackle Cam Fleming.

The Broncos did sign 14 other players to reserve/future contracts.

Players that are not on an active roster at the end of the season are eligible to sign reserve/future deals. After signing reserve contracts, players officially join the 90-man offseason roster when the new league year begins in March.

Story update: After parting ways with the Broncos on Monday, WR David Sills signed a reserve/future contract with the Falcons on Tuesday. See our original post below.

The Denver Broncos have let the contracts expire for three practice squad players, making them 2025 free agents.

After spending last season on the Broncos’ practice squad, wide receiver David Sills, tight end Donald Parham and offensive tackle Cam Fleming were not among the 14 players signed to reserve/future contracts.

Broncos signing wide receiver ahead of 2025 offseason

The Broncos are bringing back WR Michael Bandy on a reserve/future contract, according to The Denver Gazette.

The Denver Broncos initially signed 13 members of their practice squad to reserve/future contracts following the 2024 season, making it appear that four players would not return.

At least one of them will return.

The Broncos are signing wide receiver Michael Bandy to a reserve/future deal, according to The Denver Gazette‘s Chris Tomasson. Bandy is now set to return for the 2025 campaign.

The 27-year-old Bandy has appeared in 12 games in his NFL career, including one game in Denver during the 2023 season. He spent all of 2024 on the Broncos’ practice squad. The receiver/returner has 10 receptions for 89 yards and four kickoff returns for 88 yards in his career (he spent 2021-2022 with the Los Angeles Chargers).

Denver still has not re-signed wide receiver David Sills, tight end Donald Parham or offenisve tackle Cam Fleming.

Players that are not on an active roster at the end of the season are eligible to sign reserve/future deals. After signing reserve contracts, players officially join the 90-man offseason roster when the new league year begins in March.

Broncos let 3 players walk following 2024 season

The Broncos did not give reserve/future contract deals to four practice squad players, including TE Donald Parham.

Story update: The Broncos are signing receiver Michael Bandy to a reserve/future contract. See our original post below.

Following the conclusion of the 2024 season, the Denver Broncos signed 13 members of their practice squad to reserve/future contracts.

Four other veteran members of the practice squad were not given new deals ahead of the 2025 offseason. The Broncos are not re-signing wide receivers Michael Bandy or David Sills, tight end Donald Parham or offenisve tackle Cam Fleming, at least not at the moment.

Parham is perhaps the most intriguing player not re-signed. The 6-8 tight end with 11 career touchdowns spent the entire season on Denver’s practice squad.

Players that are not on an active roster at the end of the season are eligible to sign reserve/future deals. After signing reserve contracts, players officially join the 90-man offseason roster when the new league year begins in March.

Report: Broncos will sign linebacker to reserve/future deal after season ends

The Broncos plan to sign linebacker K.J. Cloyd to a reserve/future contract after the season ends.

The Denver Broncos plan to sign inside linebacker K.J. Cloyd to a reserve/future contract after their season ends, according to a report from The Draft Network’s Justin Melo.

Players who are not on an active roster at the end of the season are eligible to sign a reserve/future contract for the following league year. Cloyd (6-2, 228 pounds) is currently on Denver’s practice squad, so he will be eligible to sign a reserve/future deal after the Broncos’ season ends.

Players who sign future contracts are officially added to the team’s 90-man offseason roster when the NFL’s new league year begins in March. Denver will likely sign most of their practice squad players to future deals after the 2024 campaign comes to an end.

Cloyd entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out Miami with the Minnesota Vikings last spring. He later joined the New York Giants but failed to make their 53-man roster following training camp.

Cloyd initially signed with New York’s practice squad but was later waived. He signed with the Broncos’ practice squad in December.

13 ex-Broncos sign future contracts with NFL teams, including a QB

Ben DiNucci headlines the list of 13 ex-Broncos players who signed reserve/future contracts with NFL teams this week.

Following the end of the NFL season, teams who did not make the playoffs can begin signing players to reserve/future contracts for the next league year.

To be eligible for a reserve/future deal, players can’t be on an active roster when the season ends. Once a player signs such a contract, they are committed to join the team’s 90-man offseason roster when the new league year begins in March.

Because the Denver Broncos have made the playoffs, their reserve/future contract signings won’t begin until their season ends. In the meantime, 13 ex-Broncos players have signed deals with other NFL teams.

  1. QB Ben DiNucci (Saints)
  2. RB Salvon Ahmed (Colts)
  3. WR Tyreik McAllister (Raiders)
  4. WR Phillip Dorsett (Falcons)
  5. WR Seth Williams (Cowboys)
  6. TE Albert Okwuegbunan (Colts)
  7. OL Sebastian Gutierrez (49ers)
  8. OL Zack Johnson (49ers)
  9. DL Marcus Haynes (Browns)
  10. DL McTelvin Agim (Titans)
  11. OLB Durrell Nchami (Colts)
  12. OLB Thomas Incoom (Panthers)
  13. DB Lamar Jackson (Falcons)

Denver is focused on an upcoming playoff game against the Buffalo Bills. Once the Broncos’ season ends, we will turn attention toward the team’s in-house transactions.

CFL QB Nathan Rourke, who tried out for Broncos in December, signs with Jaguars

CFL QB Nathan Rourke, who tried out for the Broncos and 11 other teams this winter, plans to sign with the Jaguars.

Nathan Rourke is jumping from the CFL to the NFL, but not with the Denver Broncos.

Rourke (6-1, 210 pounds) tried out for the Broncos last month, but he has chosen to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars instead, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. After an impressive season in Canada last spring, Rourke tried out for a dozen NFL teams during the 2022 season.

Rourke scored 32 touchdowns (25 passing and seven rushing) in ten games with the BC Lions in 2022.

Rourke is one of three quarterbacks who tried out for Denver last month, joining Jarrett Guarantano (who signed to the practice squad) and veteran Joshua Dobbs. Guarantano was promoted to the active roster late in the season and he is scheduled to become an exclusive rights free agent in March.

If the Broncos place an ERFA tender on Guarantano, he will become the team’s second QB under contract for 2023, joining Russell Wilson. Denver’s backup, Brett Rypien, is set to become an unrestricted free agent this spring. Backup QB will be a position of need for the Broncos this offseason.

Broncos sign 9 players to reserve/future contracts

The Broncos signed nine players to reserve/future contracts on Monday.

At the end of the regular season, players who are not on an active roster are allowed to sign a reserve/future contract with an NFL team. Every player on a practice squad at the end of the season is eligible to do so.

The players that sign reserve/future deals officially join their team’s 90-man offseason roster when the NFL’s new league year begins in March.

This year, the Denver Broncos signed nine members of their practice squad to reserve/future contracts. Here is the list:

  • WR Victor Bolden
  • G Parker Ferguson
  • CB Faion Hicks
  • CB Delonte Hood
  • DB Devon Key
  • RB Tyreik McAllister
  • OLB Wyatt Ray
  • OL Hunter Thedford
  • LB Ray Wilborn

Denver did not sign five other players.

Hicks (5-10, 192 pounds) is one of the most notable players on the list. He was selected by the Broncos in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft out of Wisconsin. Hicks failed to make Denver’s 53-man roster as a rookie, but he was quickly added to the team’s practice squad.

Hicks was elevated to the game-day roster two times during his rookie season, playing 30 snaps on special teams.

Broncos tried out 8 players this week, including a quarterback

Eight players tried out for the Broncos earlier this week, including QB Jarrett Guarantano.

The Denver Broncos worked out eight players on Tuesday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire. Here’s a quick recap of the players who tried out for the club earlier this week.

  • QB Jarrett Guarantano: Transferred as a graduate from Tennessee to Washington State in 2021 and was signed by the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent this spring. He failed to make their 53-man roster and began his rookie season on Arizona’s practice squad before being cut last month.
  • TE Jevon Cottoy: Went straight from high school football in Canada to playing in the Canadian Junior Football League before eventually landing in the CFL. He played WR in Canada but the Broncos worked him out as a TE.
  • TE Josh Hokit: TE with FB experience who has spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and Cardinals. Yet to play in a regular season game in the NFL since entering the league in 2020.
  • TE Briley Moore: Spent his rookie season on injured reserve with the Tennessee Titans after tearing his ACL in 2021. Recently selected by the DC Defenders to play in the upcoming season of the XFL.
  • WR Jaquarii Roberson: Rookie out of Wake Forest who has spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills this year, bouncing between practice squads.
  • WR Kevin Kassis: Signed with Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Montana State in the spring. Began the year on Seattle’s practice squad before being cut last week.
  • WR Brandon Lewis: Signed with the Titans as a college free agent in May after playing college football for the Air Force. He was waived during preseason.
  • LB Ray Wilborn: Spent time with the Green Bay Packers earlier this year before working out for Denver. Signed to the Broncos’ practice squad after his tryout on Tuesday.

The seven players who did not sign with Denver might be candidates to sign reserve/future contracts with the Broncos after the season ends.
