Colts sign DT McTelvin Agim to the practice squad

McTelvin Agim is returning to the practice squad.

The Indianapolis Colts signed defensive tackle McTelvin Agim to the practice squad and released defensive tackle Caleb Sampson from the practice squad, the team announced Thursday.

Agim initially made the 53-man roster for the Colts following the deadline Tuesday but was among the players waived the following day when the waiver claims went through.

Agim had a solid showing during the preseason as a depth interior defensive line piece, and he’ll continue to work on the practice squad.

Sampson initially joined the Colts this offseason as an undrafted free-agent rookie out of Kansas. He was waived during roster cuts and signed to the practice squad.

Colts place TE Jelani Woods on IR among several roster moves

Jelani Woods will start the season on the injured reserve list.

The Indianapolis Colts tight end Jelani Woods was placed on the injured reserve list among several roster moves, the team announced Wednesday.

Woods has been dealing with a torn hamstring since the start of training camp, which was the reaggravation of the injury he dealt with during the spring workouts.

The second-year tight end was held out of the majority of training camp and the entirety of the preseason. Because he was placed on the injured reserve list after the waiver process concluded, he will be eligible to return but after he’s forced to miss the first four games of the season.

The Colts made three roster claims Wednesday in the forms of offensive tackle Ryan Hayes, guard Josh Sills and linebacker Isaiah Land.

In order to make room on the roster for those three waiver claims, the Colts waived defensive tackle McTelvin Agim and guard/tackle Carter O’Donnell. They also released wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie, who was almost immediately re-signed to the roster.

5 observations from Day 10 of Colts training camp

Our own Meghan Hall gives her five observations from Day 10 of Colts training camp.

As the first game of the preseason approaches, the Indianapolis Colts are making final tweaks to how they will show up at Orchard Park on Saturday when they visit the Buffalo Bills.

That included a lighter training camp practice on Thursday, which was their 10th practice since the opening of camp. While we conducted a quick roundup of what went down, we’ll dive a bit deeper into the day’s practice.

Here are five observations from Day 10 of Colts training camp:

Colts sign 12 players to futures contracts

The Colts signed 12 players to futures contracts.

The Indianapolis Colts signed 12 players to Reserve/Futures contracts, the team announced Monday.

As is typical protocol following the end of the regular season, the Colts will be preparing to expand their roster to 90 players for the offseason. Much of that includes signing players to futures contracts.

The expansion of the roster to 90 players doesn’t go into effect until the start of the new league year, which is March 15. That’s why it’s technically a reserve contract. This is essentially stating the player will be on the 90-man roster when the time comes.

There is no limit to how many futures contracts the Colts have as long as they are within the 90-man limit when the new league year rolls around.

Here’s a look at the 12 players signed to futures contracts to begin the offseason:

Broncos made several roster moves on Tuesday

After placing RB Mike Boone on IR, the Broncos are adding WR Freddie Swain.

The Denver Broncos made several changes to their roster on Tuesday.

First, the Broncos placed running back Mike Boone on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Because there are only four games left this year, Boone’s season is now over.

To fill Boone’s former spot on the 53-man roster, Denver signed wide receiver Freddie Swain off the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Swain played with Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson from 2020-2021, catching 38 passes for 502 yards and six touchdowns in 33 games with the Seattle Seahawks.

Additionally, Denver released defensive lineman McTelvin Agim from the practice squad. A former third-round pick in 2020, Agim never lived up to his high draft status with the Broncos.

Denver also lost backup guard Netane Muti on Tuesday — he left the team’s practice squad to join the Las Vegas Raiders’ active roster.

After cutting Agim and losing Muti, the Broncos have two open spots on the practice squad. Denver might save those two spots for players cut this week to make room for other players returning from injured reserve.

Broncos outside linebacker Randy Gregory (knee) and safety Caden Sterns (hip) are both eligible to return from IR, but the Broncos will have to make room for them on the 53-man roster.

Every NFL team’s most surprising roster cut

We didn’t expect these 32 cuts across the NFL.

With the preseason in the books, every NFL team has now trimmed their roster to the league–mandated 53 players. While these rosters will certainly undergo changes over the next couple of days, each team has their initial 53-man roster set.

But when going from 80 to 53 players, there are some tough calls NFL general managers have to make in the process. And there were certainly some shocking moves across the league during the final roster cuts, which should make for some interesting moves on the waiver wire.

We’ve rounded up our NFL Wires editors to highlight the most surprising roster cut from every NFL team.

Broncos cut DL McTelvin Agim

The Broncos will cut DL McTelvin Agim, according to NFL Network.

The Denver Broncos have waived defensive lineman McTelvin Agim, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Agim (6-3, 300 pounds) would presumably be a candidate to return on the practice squad if he clears waivers. After an impressive performance in Denver’s preseason finale, though, Agim will likely draw interest on the waiver wire.

It sounds like the Broncos tried to trade Agim before cutting him as Pelissero reported Agim was “the subject of trade talks in recent days.”

Agim was picked by Denver in the third round of the 2020 NFL draft out of Arkansas. He struggled to break into the defensive line’s starting lineup, appearing in 17 games (no starts) over the last two seasons. Agim totaled 12 tackles, 1.5 sacks and two pass breakups in those appearances.

Agim did stand out in the team’s final preseason game over the weekend with two forced fumbles, two pass breakups and a sack, but that apparently wasn’t enough to make the squad.

Agim not making the 53-man roster presumably increases the chances of sixth-round pick Matt Henningsen making the team as a rookie.

We are tracking all of the Broncos’ roster moves on this page.

Broncos stock up/down: Risers and fallers after final preseason game

After the Broncos’ 23-13 win over the Vikings, there are many decisions to be made. Who stood out from this contest?

After a 10-point victory in their final preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings, the Denver Broncos now have significant decisions to make by whittling the roster from 80 players down to 53. Here are six aspects of the game that the Denver decision-makers will look at to aid their conclusions.

Broncos close out preseason with 23-13 win over Vikings

Mike Boone and McTelvin Agim stood out in the Broncos’ preseason finale on Saturday night.

The Denver Broncos wrapped up preseason on Saturday evening with a 23-13 win over Minnesota Vikings at home.

Denver’s standouts on offense were running back Mike Boone and rookie wide receiver Montrell Washington. Boone rushed five times for 44 yards and caught two passes for seven yards. Washington scored a touchdown on an 11-yard run from a pitch in the second quarter.

On defense, defensive lineman McTelvin Agim turned in an impressive performance with two strip-sacks, including one that outside linebacker Baron Browning returned 17 yards for a touchdown just before halftime. Rookie safety Delarrin Turner-Yell also stood with four tackles and a sack that stopped the Vikings on fourth-and-goal late in the game, preserving the win.

Broncos kicker Brandon McManus added 50-, 40- and 31-yard field goals to give Denver 23 total points.

Unfortunately for the Broncos, they did not escape the game without injury. Promising rookie receiver Brandon Johnson went down with an ankle injury in the first quarter and he did not return to the game. It remains to be seen how much that injury might impact Johnson’s chances to make the team.

On a positive note on the injury front, receiver KJ Hamler returned to action for the first time since tearing his ACL last September. Hamler caught three passes for 18 yards and he looked healthy and confident.

Up next for Denver is Tuesday’s deadline to finalize a 53-man roster.

Broncos DL McTelvin Agim forces fumble, OLB Baron Browning scoops and scores

This won’t be the last time Baron Browning makes a big play in 2022.

As the adage goes: offenses sell tickets, but defenses win games.

The Denver Broncos will sell tickets as Russell Wilson’s arrival will be a draw. But the defense will have to measure up if the Broncos want to contend. So far, as far as preseason games go, they are showing flashes of promise.

Denver’s currently playing the Minnesota Vikings in their third and final preseason game. As the score was 10-7 with the Broncos in the lead approaching halftime, defensive lineman McTelvin Agim recorded a strip-sack, allowing outside linebacker Baron Browning to scoop the ball from the ground for a defensive score.

Agim and Browning, third and second-year players, respectively, will look to capitalize on this big play into a stellar season. With new defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero blending the old Fangio system with his twist, Agim and Browning will aim to contribute to a potential playoff-bound defense in 2022.
