Notre Dame 52, Navy 20 – Game Ball Awards

Khalid Kareem forced two fumbles early on and got Navy out of their game-plan offensively.

No. 16 Notre Dame’s 52-20 rout of No. 23 Navy was sight for sore eyes, as the Irish dominated Navy in every part of the game until calling off the dogs in the second half.

When you dominate a game like Notre Dame did Saturday, especially in the first half, there were plenty of performances that were praise-worthy and deserving of our game-ball award had it been pretty much any other week, but we limit them down to one on both offense and defense to present you our FIW game ball awards for the Navy game.

Penalties. Ejections. Muffed picks. Puzzling play calls. Spirit-crushing turnovers. The Red Wolves dug deep into Chagrin’s Hip Pocket to find every and any measure to lose the game. But when the rubber pellets settled, the Red Wolves had somehow managed a victory over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

Everybody seemed to be in on the crime. Layne Hatcher tossed a pair of picks, one to a defensive back who was all by his lonesome. Special teams contributed a fumble – adding to the four offered by the offense. The defense, made even more shorthanded by Darrean Jackson’s ejection following two unsportsmanlike penalties, carried the team as best they could, making big plays that included a pair of picks, one for a score. It wasn’t enough to lose, however.

With less than 3:00 on the clock, the Chants took a 27-21 lead after collecting another turnover. But the Red Wolves’ 2-minutes offense resulted in a Layne Hatcher to Kirk Merritt score with only half a minute remaining. The defense shut the lid on the game 15 seconds later, securing another year of bowl eligibility for Arkansas State.

A-State’s Omar Bayless chipped in 102 yards and a TD, while CJ Marable for Coastal racked up 142 yards and a score.

Texas vs Iowa State: First half recap

An ugly first half for the Longhorns got saved by a Brennan Eagles touchdown. If Texas wants to win, the offense must step up and convert.

Until the final drive of the first half, it was an ugly start to the day for the Longhorns. Punting the ball five times, Texas went three-and-out four times and added a turnover on downs deep in Iowa State territory.

Luckily for the Longhorns, they were able to find some rhythm with under a minute to go in the first half, scoring on five plays in 30 seconds. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger found Brennan Eagles on a spectacular 14-yard touchdown.

Texas has really struggled running the ball, only gaining 33 yards on 17 attempts. Ehlinger was not throwing the ball downfield as he was 3/7 with 26 yards before the last drive in the half. The entire offense must step it up in the second half if the Longhorns want to win this game.

Besides the Iowa State touchdown, the Texas defense has an interception, forced two three-and-outs, and held the Cyclone offense to a field goal. Iowa State Brock Purdy is 16/23 with 116 yards and a touchdown. Iowa State has been decent running the ball, having 85 yards on 17 carries. The defense has not been the problem for the Longhorns and needs to continue what they have been doing.

Texas has a great opportunity to win against Iowa State if the offense is able to step up and make some plays. Texas’ defense was able to contain the Iowa State offense and keep them to 10 points. If they can do the same in the second half, they will set the Longhorn offense up to win the game and control their destiny in the Big 12.

Texas is facing Iowa State on FS1.

Watch: Braden Lenzy Does Another Rocket Ismail Impression

Some things never get old. Seeing a No. 25 wearing blue and gold show off his blazing speed and burn an opponent for a touchdown is one of those.

On an afternoon known as the Chase Claypool celebration as he’s already put up four touchdown receptions but with the Irish leading 21-0 in the second quarter this afternoon we saw Braden Lenzy do another Rocket Ismail impression, getting behind the Navy defense for a 70 yard touchdown reception.

Some things never get old. Seeing a No. 25 wearing blue and gold show off his blazing speed and burn an opponent for a touchdown is one of those.

The Irish lead 45-3 at the time of this post. A pleasant change of pace for a Notre Dame/Navy game for the second year in a row.

WATCH: D’Shawn Jamison intercepts Brock Purdy

Texas has struggled early but was able to force an interception off of Brock Purdy. Texas is still losing to Iowa State in the 2nd quarter.

Early in the game, Texas has had a tough time moving the ball with the offense, but the defense has played well since letting up an early Iowa State touchdown.

On 1st and 10 from the Iowa State 31, D’Shawn Jamison was able to intercept Cyclone quarterback Brock Purdy to force the first turnover of the game.

Here is the highlight below:

Texas is still down to Iowa State, 7-0, in the middle of the second quarter.
