The latest Notre Dame-Ohio State betting information

What bet(s) are you making here?

Pretty much nobody outside of South Bend, Ind. seems to be giving No. 5 Notre Dame a snowball’s chance in hell of upsetting No. 2 Ohio State when the two midwest powerhouses open the season this Saturday night in Columbus.  The Irish are as accomplished as nearly every team in the nation over the last five years but they just happen to be taking on one of the very few that are more-so in that time.

Two premier programs, a new head coach who happened to play his college football at the other, an iconic venue, and being the biggest game of perhaps September in college football will only make the lights that much brighter.  How will Notre Dame fare in Marcus Freeman’s first regular season game as head coach?

Here are the latest lines, courtesy of Tipico Sportsbook:

  • Pointspread: Ohio State -17.5 (that’s not a misprint)
  • Moneylines: Ohio State -850, Notre Dame +550
  • Total: 58.5 points

Marcus Freeman asked back in April to keep pushing the spread up so that only the players on his team would be believing Notre Dame had a chance.  That number has continued to rise all off-season like he asked, now let’s hope he can go out and lead the Irish to shock the world.

Clemson football betting favorites to win the ACC Championship

Clemson football is the early betting favorite to win the ACC Championship

Before the 2021 college football season, Clemson football and head coach Dabo Swinney were looking at an opportunity to win their sixth straight ACC Championship game.

Opening as -300 favorites to win the ACC, the Tigers failed to make the game itself, finishing the season 10-3 (6-2 ACC), with Wake Forest earning the right to represent the Atlantic division. The Coastal division was represented by Pittsburgh Panthers, who took home the ACC Championship.

The Tigers will look to rebound in the 2022 college football season, and the odds are still in their favor.

According to Tipico Sportsbook, Clemson is currently a -120 favorite to win the ACC next season. Though own from the -300 we saw last season, the Tigers still find themselves the heavy favorite to win the conference.

Sitting at -120, Clemson sits with far and away the best odds to win the conference followed by Miami at +600, with North Carolina State and Pittsburgh tied at third in odds at +900.

Clemson football has a great chance to rebound after what was considered a down season for them this past year. As we saw last season, anything can happen, but for now, the Tigers can still be considered the most dangerous team in the ACC.

[jwplayer d1VLLnNk]

For a seventh straight week, Michigan State football is listed as the underdog — this time in its Big Ten Champions Week contest against Maryland.

MSU is a 2-point underdog against Maryland, odds courtesy of BetMGM. Both teams enter with two wins on the season, but the Terps have a better record at 2-3.

Depending on the sportsbook, the Spartans opened as a near touchdown underdog when lines began to come out on Sunday. However, that spread has been bet down significantly with this game nearly listed as a pick’em at this point.

Kickoff between MSU and Maryland is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST on Saturday in College Park. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

Updated BetMGM betting odds for Alabama vs. LSU

Alabama will face off against LSU on the road and will be the heavi favorites according to oddsmakers at BetMGM.

The No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide will face off against an unranked LSU on the road for another ‘night game in Death Valley.’ However, this year’s contest is not as highly anticipated as they usually are.

Alabama being the top team in the nation, as well as the only undefeated team in the SEC, seems high and above the reigning National Champions, who are 3-4 this season.

Oddsmakers at BetMGM are also predicting a healthy win for Alabama over the Tigers.

Alabama – Kentucky BetMGM betting odds

Alabama football opens up as a heavy favorite of Kentucky for the team’s first contest since Mississippi State.

By the time Alabama plays Kentucky this upcoming Saturday, Nov. 21, it will mark three weeks since the Crimson Tide played football. Having a week off after defeating Mississippi State, then having the LSU contest canceled. However, oddsmakers at BetMGM seem to think they will do just fine against Kentucky.

Place your legal sports bets online in CO, IN, NJ, TN, and WV at BetMGM. Bet now!

Mac Jones and the Alabama offense are projected to have quite the game according to the lines, and the defense should perform as well as they had prior to the extended absence from the field.

Here are the lines set by BetMGM:

Alabama: -30.5 (-115)

Kentucky: +30.5 (-106)

Money line:

Wisconsin now a bigger favorite over Michigan according to BetMGM

The Badgers are now bigger favorites over Michigan

After being listed as a -1.5 point favorite just two days ago, the betting line for Wisconsin’s primetime clash with Michigan is moving rapidly in the Badgers’ favor according to BetMGM.

[lawrence-related id=24574]

Wisconsin is now listed as a -4.5 favorite, meaning any bet on the Badgers spread would only cash if they win by five or more points. A moneyline bet on Wisconsin (a bet on the Badgers to win the game outright) is now at -167 on BetMGM, meaning you would need to risk $167 to win $100. Michigan is now a +140 underdog.

The line only appears to be moving in one direction, and if news comes out later this week that confirms QB Graham Mertz is good to go, expect the line to jump even higher in Wisconsin’s favor.

MSU double-digit favorites over Rutgers in Mel Tucker’s debut

Spartan fans are expecting a win to open the Mel Tucker era, and it appears the experts in Vegas are thinking the same thing.

[jwplayer A8I2iwtU]

Spartan fans are expecting a win to open the Mel Tucker era, and it appears the experts in Vegas are thinking the same thing.

Michigan State is currently listed as a 13-point favorite over Rutgers in the season opener on Oct. 24, per Vegas Insider consensus. Vegas Insider listed the opening line at 14, signaling that the line has already been bet down.

Michigan State beat Rutgers 27-0 in last year’s matchup, and have yet to lose to the Scarlet Knights since they joined the Big Ten in 2014. Despite the Spartans’ success against Rutgers over the years, it’s interesting to see MSU as such heavy favorites with so many questions marks entering the upcoming season. Not to mention, that both Michigan State will be working in new head coaches in this matchup.

BetMGM Lists Seven Notre Dame Spreads – Irish Surprise Underdog in One

BetMGM listed seven Notre Dame game lines for the 2020 season. They’re about what you’d expect except for one. Navy, Clemson, USC, Wisconsin

I’m debating writing everything from here forward as if the 2020 college football season is going to start on time.  It may not be the most realistic belief but with where we’re at right now, do I really have to type out something along the lines of “assuming these games are played” or “as long as the season starts on time” anymore?  We’re all on the same page and I don’t think anyone out there is unaware of the possibility that college football may be played differently in 2020…or 2021.

With that said BetMGM has posted point spreads for seven of Notre Dame’s 12 games this season.  Of the seven, four have the Irish listed as a significant favorite while another has them as a slight favorite.  They then list Notre Dame as an underdog in a pair of games as well, one understandably so and the other being a bit of a surprise.

2020 Notre Dame Game Lines via BetMGM:

August 29 vs. Navy (Aviva Stadium, Dublin, Ireland):  Notre Dame -16.5

September 26 vs. Wake Forest (Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC):  Notre Dame -23.5

October 3 vs. Wisconsin (Lambeau Field, Green Bay, WI):  Notre Dame -2.5

October 10 vs. Stanford (Notre Dame Stadium):  Notre Dame -17.5

November 7 vs. Clemson (Notre Dame Stadium):  Clemson -7.5

November 21 vs. Louisville (Notre Dame Stadium):  Notre Dame -14.5

November 28 vs. USC (Los Angeles Coliseum, Los Angeles, CA): No spread listed but USC a -125 money-line favorite (Notre Dame +105).

Odds via BetMGMAccess USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated _____ at _____ a.m. / p.m. ET. (You will need to write in the day and time you are looking at the latest betting lines)

The games where Notre Dame is a significant favorite are hardly a surprise.  If one stands out to me it’s that Louisville is a 14.5 point underdog.  I thought that program took a giant step last year and seem headed in the right direction.

I’ve seen other shops list Notre Dame as a slight underdog at Wisconsin so I was a bit surprised to see the Irish favored, even slightly against what should be another very good Badgers squad.

Clemson being favored by 7.5 is the biggest spread I’ve seen anywhere on that November 7.  If you’re looking to bet that “game of the year” then look no further than here if you’re backing Notre Dame.  Tough to find a number as good right now.

And pardon me while I go and dump my savings account in on Notre Dame at +105 to finish the year at USC.  Is there a program that routinely does less with more?  The Irish are 3-2 at USC under Brian Kelly and enter the season is much better shape than the Trojans who realistically could be playing with a different head coach by the time Thanksgiving weekend rolls around.

Betting 101: How to bet on college football for beginners

Looking at the various sports betting options centered around college football, with betting advice, tips and definitions of key terms.

College football is arguably the best sport to bet because data is very accessible yet it’s hard for bookmakers to make sharp lines because there are just so many games. There are 130 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision teams and a typical Saturday slate of college football can include upward of 60 games. Even the sharpest sportsbooks—including BetMGM—have weak spots. Here’s a look at some of the options you have for cashing tickets on college football bets:

College football betting: Ways to bet

Access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list of today’s sports betting odds and lines.

  • Futures: These wagers are for events decided well after the bet has been placed. A Futures bet in college football would be betting on who will win the 2021 College Football National Champion, Big Ten Conference, Heisman Trophy, etc. One of my favorite futures bets are Over/Under team win totals. As in, betting Over Clemson Tigers 11.5 regular-season wins (not an actual line, just an example).
  • Game sides: It’s the most common bet in sports. Which team do you like to win the game and, if necessary, by how many points? You can bet a team to win outright with a moneyline wager or for a team to cover the point spread, at BetMGM‘s listed odds.
  • Game totals: This is a wager on the final score of the game. For instance, you’d bet Over/Under 67.5 total points in USC Trojans at Oregon Ducks. The bettor takes either the Over or the Under on BetMGM‘s listed total. You can also look to bet team totals, which is the line set on how many points a single team is projected to put up. Back to our earlier example, Oregon’s mock team total would be 38 and USC’s is 29.5 for a total of 67.5. Which total would you take in our sample total line?
  • Prop bets: Here is where you wager on smaller occurrences during a college football game, like how many rushing yards a running back will have or an Over/Under for the longest passing play for a team. An example prop bet is “Over/Under 215.5 passing yards for Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence against the Virginia Tech Hokies.”
  • Live betting: BetMGM is listing live odds on the sides and totals throughout a college football game. If you feel like you’ve got the flow of a conference rivalry game down somewhere in the second quarter, make a live bet.
  • Parlay: One of the juicier bets, a parlay is a wager where two or more bets have to win for the ticket to cash. The more bets/teams/totals included in the parlay, the bigger the payout. Bettors like correlated parlays where you bet a team and a total to get a better payout. You could also rip off a four-team parlay by combining games in the 12 p.m. ET, 3 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. ET and 10 p.m. ET slots.

College football betting: Key betting terms to know

  • Moneyline:  These are the odds set by BetMGM on a team to win the game straight up. The moneyline for the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship was LSU Tigers -228 and Clemson Tigers +185. A $228 wager on the LSU -228 moneyline earned a $100 profit when the Tigers beat Clemson, 42-25.
  • Point spread: The line, the points, the spread, the number are all other ways to refer to how many points a team needs to win by or cannot lose by. For example, if the Oklahoma Sooners are -6.5 at the Texas Longhorns then you can wager on Oklahoma and win if the Sooners win by seven or more points. If Texas stays within 6 points in a loss or wins outright, then its side of the bet would win and a bet on Oklahoma would be lost.
  • Over/Under:  This could be used when discussing the total but also for player and game props or futures. It’s as simple as betting the Over or the Under on BetMGM‘s listed odds for let’s say the Pac-12 title game point total or 2020 passing yards for Ohio State QB Justin Fields as a season prop.
  • Push: Tie, chop, drawKiss Your Sister, whatever you want to call it. Sometimes a push feels like a miracle, sometimes it feels like a bad beat but it’s never a loss or a win. It’s just, meh. You get your money back, which I would bet on the Pac-12 Saturday night game.
  • Key numbers: Since touchdowns (seven) and field goals (three) are the most common increment of scores, those are also the biggest key numbers. Ten, 17, 24 are also in this group. You’ll hear “sharps” talk about key numbers in their handicaps—like betting favorites at -2.5 or -6.5 and betting underdogs at +3.5 or +7.5—so familiarize yourself with the lingo, and the math.
