The Michigan State soccer program program has made significant strides under Damon Rensing and have become a consistent program in the Big Ten.

As the team prepares for their 2024 season, they are going through a spring schedule to better enhance themselves. Within that spring schedule, the Spartans welcomed in their rivals, Michigan.

Michigan State defeated Michigan on the pitch, 3-0.

Trey Augustine is the Big Ten Tournament’s MVP:

Michigan State hockey capped their Big Ten Tournament run with an overtime thrilling victory over archrival Michigan on Saturday night.

The Spartans, as they have been all season long, were led by freshman goaltender Trey Augustine. Augustine has a long list of accolades, ranging from USA world juniors gold medal winner, to all conference player and he now gets to add another one to the list.

Augustine was named the MVP of the Big Ten Tournament following the Spartans Big Ten Tournament championship game win.

Michigan State hockey took down their archrival Michigan on Saturday night inside of East Lansing’s Munn Ice Arena. Regulation wasn’t enough for the two rivals in the Big Ten Tournament championship, and it was Patrick Geary’s goal with 6:13 remaining in the extra frame to propel the Spartans to the title.

Michigan State beats Michigan in overtime thriller for Big Ten Tournament championship

Michigan State is Big Ten Tournament champs after winning an OT thriller over Michigan

Three periods weren’t enough to settle a rivalry matchup between Michigan State and Michigan inside of East Lansing’s Munn Ice Arena for the Big Ten Tournament championship. After a 4-4 regulation score, it was MSU’s freshman defenseman Patrick Geary netting a point shot for the overtime winner with 6:13 remaining in the overtime period.

The Big Ten Tournament win marks the first in the Spartans program history.

Goal scorers for the Spartans, aside from Geary, included Tanner Kelly, Daniel Russell, Jeremy Davidson and Matt Basgall.

Michigan State will now wait to learn their NCAA Tournament fate tomorrow evening during the NCAA’s selection show.

Michigan State took the 64 mile bus ride from East Lansing to Ann Arbor on Saturday night, completing the sweep over their in-state archrivals Michigan. The Spartans held the Wolverines scoreless over the final 7 minutes of the game en route to a 73-63 win as the Crisler Center was serenaded with “Go Green, Go White” chants from the Spartan faithful.

The win serves as a Q2 win for Michigan State, which still is helpful in further bolstering their NCAA Tournament resume.

Michigan State hockey defeats Michigan, wins Duel in the D, 3-2

MSU wins the Duel in the D, sweeps weekend series against Michigan

Michigan State has completed the weekend sweep, defeating Michigan on Friday night, 5-1, and following it up with a 3-2 victory on Saturday.

Saturday’s contest was the latest edition of the Duel in the D series, a game played at the Detroit Red Wings’ Little Caesars Arena for the Iron D trophy.

The Spartans were led by the All-American caliber goaltender Trey Augustine, who had 36 saves in the contest.

MSU’s three goals came by way of Tanner Kelly, Tiernan Shoudy and Karsen Dorwart.

The Spartans have now officially won the regular season series against the Wolverines, 3 games to 1, while clinching the first 20-win season the program has had since 2007-08.

Michigan State will be off next weekend, and will return to the ice in two weeks at Munn Ice Arena for a weekend series against Ohio State.

Michigan State picked up a huge rivalry win over Michigan on Tuesday night inside of the Breslin Center, earning the 700th career win in the hall of fame career of head coach Tom Izzo.

While the game didn’t start the way the Spartans wanted it to, the team took care of business, and cruised their way to a dominating 81-62 win over the Wolverines.
