Former Ohio State commit Jaiden Woodbey leaving Florida State

Jaiden Woodbey of Florida State will be a grad transfer and play for another school. Might the former OSU target be on the Buckeyes’ radar?

Like a good fishing story, there are always a few that get away. That was the case in 2017 when the No. 4 ranked safety in the 2018 class de-committed from Ohio State in favor of Florida State. It was a blow to the second-ranked class in the nation and would’ve given the Buckeyes two top-ten safeties in the class.

Jaiden Woodbey is now back on the market after announcing that he will be leaving the Seminoles following the season as a graduate transfer. Woodbey will have one season of eligibility left after being a three-year starter for FSU. Woodbey was a Freshman All-American before losing most of his sophomore year to injury.

That begs the question of whether the Buckeyes would be interested in giving a former flame another shot at going to the prom again, this time in Scarlet and Gray colors. Would OSU look to bring Woodbey back in the fold in Columbus?

The biggest question is, would Ohio State be interested in possibly taking a chance on a guy who left them at the alter several years ago? You never know. Woodbey’s de-commitment came while Urban Meyer was at the helm. With Ryan Day in charge now, things may feel different on both sides.

One thing is for certain, with the Ohio State secondary struggling a tad in 2020, it won’t hurt to kick the tires and see where interest may lie. A grad transfer of this caliber would only strengthen an already impressing 2021 recruiting class for Buckeyes.

Clemson’s Dabo Swinney puts Florida State on blast for postponement

Dabo Swinney of Clemson continues to go off about Florida state’s decision to postpone Saturday’s game

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is fuming at Florida State’s administration. The furor continued a day after the Seminoles postponed their ACC game with the Tigers, who had a player test positive for COVID-19 after they arrived in Tallahassee.

“This game was not canceled because of COVID,” Swinney said. “COVID was just an excuse to cancel the game. I have no doubt their players wanted to play and would have played. And same with the coaches. To me, the Florida State administration forfeited the game.”

The game was postponed following a positive test by a Clemson player on Friday. Both teams’ medical personnel were not able to come to an agreement on moving forward with the game. Clemson was made aware of the positive test after landing in Tallahassee, with the player who tested positive onboard the flight.

“The standard to cancel a game was not met,” Swinney said. “A guy testing positive on Friday does not cancel a game. I was on every committee call for months since March and that was never the case.”

Florida State coach Mike Norvell, who has battled COVID-19, released a statement.

“…I appreciate the protocols that have been put in place by FSU and the ACC to ensure everyone’s health while allowing us to play this season,” Norvell said in the statement. “It’s unfortunate that we will not have the opportunity to compete today, but we hope to be able to play Clemson in December. I am thankful for the support and coordination between our administration, Clemson and the ACC office. Our team will now turn our focus to hosting Virginia next week.”

Clemson-Florida State off after Tiger player tests positive for COVID-19

Clemson-Florida State has been postponed due to a Tiger player testing positive for COVID-19

There have been cancelations and postponements on the college schedule weekly. This is a first, though. Clemson traveled to Tallahassee for its game Saturday against Florida State and found out it was postponed after a Tiger player tested positive for COVID-19.

The unnamed player — a backup offensive lineman — correctly caused concern among the Seminole athletic brass that playing could spread the coronavirus among its team.

Star Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence, ready to return from his own bout with COVID-19, tweeted disappointment.

The postponement follows this morning’s game conference call at which time both teams’ medical personnel were unable to mutually agree on moving forward with the game. Both teams continue to adhere to the minimum outlined protocols within the ACC Medical Advisory Group report, which is available on theACC.com (full report).

As was previously announced, the 2020 ACC Football scheduling model includes 11 games (10 conference plus one non-conference), played over at least 13 weeks with each team having two open dates.

Florida State DL Marvin Wilson out for season

Florida State defensive lineman Marvin Wilson will miss the rest of the 2020 college football season due to injury

The Florida State Seminoles will be without one of their best players for the rest of the 2020 college football season.

Defensive lineman Marvin Wilson III will miss the rest of the year with an injury, FSU head coach Mike Norvell confirmed Wednesday.

Listed at 6-5, 305 pounds, Wilson is widely considered to be one of the top prospects at his position in the 2021 NFL draft class. If he’s able to recover in time for the predraft process early next year, he could still end up being a first-round pick.

Notre Dame hero from last weeks win goes back to original position

Notre Dame senior Shaun Crawford will return to safety after playing cornerback and intercepting a pass in last weeks win over Florida State.

Irish senior Shaun Crawford has one of the hero’s during last weeks 42-26 victory over Florida State. Crawford, who has pretty much been a safety his entire Irish career, moved over to player cornerback against the Seminoles. As FSU was driving late in the 4th quarter, Crawford stepped up and intercepted a pass.

His play against FSU didn’t go unnoticed, as he got some recognition from Pro Football Focus.

The position change was short lived however, as this week Crawford will return to his primary safety position.

Although the move back makes sense, it just gives defensive coordinator Clark Lea another weapon to use in case of an injury, a COVID-19 positive test resulting in a player having to sit out or just bad play. Crawford’s versatility will surely be seen by NFL scouts as well.

It’s unfortunate that one of last weeks hero’s is moving back to his original position, but who knows. Maybe Crawford ends up back at cornerback later on in the season and has more big plays left as he complete’s his senior year.

Tweet, tweet! The best Notre Dame tweets, 2nd half edition vs FSU

The best tweets Irish style from Notre Dame’s contest against Florida State during the second half of the game.

Here are the best Notre Dame tweets from the second half of the game against Florida State. The back and forth contest continues with the Irish prevailing XX-XX.

Watch: Crawford’s position change results in pick for Notre Dame

The senior defender makes a big play for Notre Dame to stop a Florida State drive.

In a move made prior to the game Shaun Crawford moved from safety to cornerback and change paid off. Crawford intercepted a pass in the redzone, keep Florida State from inching closer to Notre Dame.

Crawford’s takeaway keeps the Irish lead of 42-26 over Florida State.

Weather watch: What to expect in South Bend for Notre Dame vs FSU

It should be a great night weather wise in South Bend, Indiana for Notre Dame’s matchup against Florida State.

After watching some exciting games this afternoon, the Irish are finally set to hit the field in just about an hour and a half. Florida State should thank the weather gods, as it shouldn’t get too chilly this evening.

Around kickoff it will be around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The sun will completely set around 7:11pm which brings a dip in the temperature.

It drops to 63 degrees Fahrenheit at 8pm then another two degrees lower by 9pm. Around the time of the games completion it will be 59 degrees Fahrenheit, an 11 degree drop from kickoff.

There is no rain in the forecast, so it should be dry. A perfect night to play college football in South Bend.

New Orleans Pelicans projected to draft Patrick Williams in CBS Sports mock draft

In the final pre-lottery mock draft from CBS Sports on Wednesday, Kyle Boone projected the Pelicans to take Patrick Williams of FSU.

In the final pre-lottery mock draft from CBS Sports on Wednesday, Kyle Boone projected the New Orleans Pelicans to take a wing player from Florida State. Unlike a handful of previous mock drafts, though, it was not guard/forward Devin Vassell but instead forward Patrick Williams.

A far more raw prospect, Williams is a 6’8″ win player that didn’t have the production of others but has the always-valued potential.

Here’s Boone’s take on Williams with the Pelicans:

“As a freshman at Florida State last season, Patrick Williams’ numbers weren’t eye-popping — he was just a high-level role player who did a lot of things well without much fanfare. But scouts I’ve talked to rave about him and his NBA potential because of his size (6-8), wingspan (6-11) and defensive playmaking potential. Wings with his skill and feel don’t come around often. He’s a raw product offensively and there’s physical development that may be needed before he reaches his potential, but teams see in him a role player in the NBA like he was in college, and that’s a perfect fit in New Orleans with a star like Zion Williamson already in place.”

With the bevy of draft picks the Pelicans will have this season and in coming years, the team can afford to draft players on potential and look to swing big.

Last season, Williams averaged 9.2 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per game in 22.5 minutes per game. He did only hit 32.0% of his 1.7 three-point attempts per game. Williams would fill a specific need for the Pelicans as a wing player that can help provide size and length to the team.
