WATCH: The moment Robert Cash and JJ Tracy win the men’s double national title

WATCH the clinching moment! #GoBucks

If you haven’t heard the news, there’s a new national title winning team at Ohio State, and it comes from the men’s tennis doubles duo of Robert Cash and JJ Tracy.

The pair had to come from behind to knock out the doubles team from Florida State, but did it by dominating the second set, 6-0, then winning the super tiebreak rather handily to bring home the second-straight doubles national title for the Scarlet and Gray.

The winning-clinching point wasn’t anything fancy, but it did the job. In case you missed it, here is the moment Cash and Tracy took home the title by covering the line and volleying the ball down the line for the win.

Congrats to the pair, and congrats to Ohio State for one whale of a season.

4-star linebacker Gavin Nix plans for his official visit to Oregon

4-star linebacker Gavin Nix has set his Oregon official date for June 14.

Oregon’s nationwide recruiting efforts keep going at full throttle as four-star linebacker Gavin Nix is seriously thinking about coming to Eugene to play football.

The 6-foot, 225-pounder from Bradenton, Flor. has set his official visit date to Oregon for June 14. He has two other official visit dates set as well. Nix will look at Miami on June 7 and Florida State June 21.

It would be quite the get for the Ducks as Nix is the 11th-rated linebacker in the country and the 15th overall player in the state of Florida. Oregon seems to be in the battle a lot recently with Miami and Florida State for coaches as well as players.

Playing in the Big Ten could help in recruiting kids such as this as the Ducks will be playing closer to the East Coast more often.

Florida and Miami are also in on Nix.

Best photos from the Oklahoma Sooners 11-3 win over the Florida State Seminoles

The Sooners earned a big win over Florida State in game one of the Super Regionals, and here are the best photos from the action.

The Oklahoma Sooners got off to a roaring start in their super regional matchup with the Florida State Seminoles. They struck first with a [autotag]Tiare Jennings[/autotag] home run and ran away from the Seminoles in an 11-3 win on Thursday evening.

Jennings is now tied with Sooners legend Lauren Chamberlain for third all-time in career home runs.

[autotag]Alyssa Brito[/autotag] had a pair of home runs and [autotag]Kinzie Hansen[/autotag] added to the power display to give the Sooners four home runs in the win. In total, OU recorded 11 hits, 8 walks, and no strikeouts.

On a night when [autotag]Kelly Maxwell[/autotag] wasn’t her sharpest, the offense picked her up with a fantastic showing in their first game of the Super Regionals.

“You know what, Kelly fought her rear-end off for this (victory),” Patty Gasso said after the win. “That’s a tough-hitting team. It’s like facing our own team. They swing. One thing they’re so good at, they probably hit 40 foul balls. Their at-bats lasted forever. I credit them for just being tough hitters, but I also credit Kelly for having to bear down and get through it. Holding them to three runs is big-time.”

Brito had a huge night, reaching base in all four plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with a walk, two home runs, and three RBIs. The home runs were her first since April 26 against UCF. [autotag]Kasidi Pickering[/autotag] also reached base four times in her 2-for-2 night with two walks and an RBI.

Now the pressure shifts to Florida State to try and extend the series to a game three. With the way the schedule sets up, Oklahoma may get an extended break if they were to close out the super regional with a win on Friday night. OU vs. Florida State was just one of two matchups to play on Thursday night, so the Sooners could get an extra day of rest ahead of the Women’s College World Series if they can secure the series tonight.

The Sooners and Seminoles will to Love’s Field at 7 p.m. CT and the game can be seen on ESPN2.

Duke uses explosive 5th inning to crush NC State 8-1 to clinch ACC Tournament semifinal berth

Duke uses three-homer fifth inning to run away from the NC State Wolfpack and advance to ACC Semifinals.

This Duke offense can turn the heat up on anyone. And if there’s a likely culprit doing damage in the middle of it, his name is probably Zac Morris.

That was the case on Thursday night as the Blue Devils used an explosive fifth inning and ran away from their fellow Triangle rivals, the NC State Wolfpack.

Duke and NC State battled it out in Charlotte for the right to advance to the ACC Tournament Semifinals in a win-or-go-home scenario. Only one team could advance from Pool C, and it was whoever walked out with two wins on Thursday night.

Sophomore starting pitcher Andrew Healy was a tone-setter for the Blue Devils as he came right out and had an uneventful one-two-three inning to kick the game off. He settled into a groove and ended his night throwing five innings of shutout baseball. He struck out four batters and walked none on a very economical 59 pitches.

During the top of the fifth inning, his teammates decided to help him out. Left fielder Chase Krewson took NC State’s Sam Highfill the opposite way for a solo home run to put Duke up 1-0. Devin Obee and Wallace Clark singled, and Highfill walked All-ACC freshman Kyle Johnson to load the bases.

Zac Morris, who already had a team-high 17 homers for the season, then took a 1-2 pitch deep to left-center field for a grand slam.

Ben Miller flew out before AJ Gracia got in on the action with a solo home run himself. Like that, Duke was up 6-0, and they never looked back.

Krewson would walk to start the sixth inning, and Devin Obee hit a laser of a line drive that was initially ruled a double before an umpire’s review deemed it a home run, giving Chris Pollard’s team an 8-0 lead.

James Tallon and Tim Noone combined for four innings of one-run ball to close the game, and Duke would eliminate NC State from the ACC Tournament.

From now on, the ACC tournament will be single elimination, so Duke will remain in do-or-die mode. Duke will have Friday off before taking on the winner of Pool D, Virginia, orĀ  Florida State on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Sooners enter postseason play as the No. 8 team in latest D1Baseball poll

Oklahoma checks in at 8th in latest D1Baseball poll.

Oklahoma just completed its most successful Big 12 regular season in program history. For the first time, the Sooners are Big 12 regular season champions. It’s incredibly fitting that the Sooners would win it on their way out. Next season, Big 12 Coach of the Year Skip Johnson and the Sooners will fight for supremacy in the vaunted SEC, the nation’s best baseball conference.

With the regular season behind them, the Sooners now focus on cementing themselves as the undisputed best team in the Big 12 by winning the 2024 Big 12 Tournament.

When the Sooners take the field, they’ll do so as a top-10 team. After a 2-1 weekend at Cincinnati to wrap up the regular season, the Sooners saw a four-spot rise in the latest D1 Baseball poll. They jumped up four spots from 12 to 8 on Monday.

Oklahoma is, without a doubt, playing some incredible baseball. All aspects of the team have been clicking at the right time, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Sooners have risen to eighth.

The opportunity exists for the Sooners to own a top eight seed in the NCAA tournament, which would give them the chance to host a regional and super regional if they should win.

Tennessee remains one, while Kentucky, Clemson, and Texas A&M are the top four.

Arkansas slid from third to fifth,Ā  Oregon State was sixth, and the ACC regular season champs, UNC, slot in ahead of OU at seventh.

The East Carolina Pirates, at ninth, and the Florida State Seminoles round out the remainder of the top 10.

Oklahoma isn’t the only Big 12 team in this week’s poll either. The Oklahoma State Cowboys check in at 19 while the Texas Longhorns move up from 25 to 24 in this week’s rankings.

As things stand, the Sooners will take on the winner of Kansas and Kansas State on Wednesday at 12:30 pm CT and the game can be seen on ESPN+.

Ohio State football in final group for 4-star Florida wide receiver

The Buckeyes are still in the mix for one of Floridaā€™s best wide receivers. #GoBucks

Itā€™s a bit odd that Ohio State football has only one wide receiver commit for its 2025 class at this moment, Deā€™zie Jones.

That could change in the near future as Floridaā€™s [autotag]Vernell Brown III[/autotag] has narrow his list down to a final four of Florida State, Miami, Florida and the Buckeyes. Ohio State has had great success recruiting the Sunshine State, and once again could lure an elite prospect north to play his collegiate football in Columbus.

Brown stands 5-foot, 11-inches and weighs 170-pounds, while being the nations No. 70 overall prospect and 10th wide receiver according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The good news for Ohio State is that it is the presumed leader in Brown’s recruitment, as they currently have two 247Sports Crystal Ball picks for him to land in Columbus. Hopefully they are correct and the talented receiver ends up picking the Buckeyes.

ACC football coaches haven’t forgotten College Football Playoff snub at spring meetings

Some ACC football coaches expressed that things needed to change in the conference after an undefeated Florida State missed the four-team playoff.

The ACC football coaches haven’t forgotten about last year’s College Football Playoff snub when an undefeated Florida State missed the four-team bracket.

During the conference’s spring meetings on Tuesday, the football coaches of the conference think the entire ACC needs to take the sport more seriously.

According to On3’s Andy Staples, Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson offered a couple of comments on the matter.

“No matter what we think, an undefeated Florida State got left out of the playoff,” Clawson said.

The problem won’t exist as dramatically in 2024 with the playoff expanded to 12 teams. However, more than half of those spots will be up for grabs for non-conference champions, and the rest of the ACC wants to make sure they’ll remain in consideration for those.

When asked how the conference could move from where it was to where it needed to be, Clawson pointed toward the athletic directors.

“That’s up to the people in that room,” he said simply.

Duke’s 2024 football season gets underway against Elon on August 30.

Oklahoma 4-star OT target Lamont Rogers drops Top 8, sets for official visit

Oklahoma is right in the thick of it for four-star tackle Lamont Rogers.

Oklahoma has done a ton of early lifting for its [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag]. After their most recent commitment from four-star cornerback Trystan Haynes, the Sooners rose to fourth in in the nation recruiting rankings for the class of 2025. It was their 15th commitment of the cycle.

Some significant prospects remain to be secured for Brent Venables’ program. One such prospect is consensus four-star offensive tackle Lamont Rogers from Mesquite, Texas.

Rogers is a talented offensive lineman who already stands 6-foot-6 and weighs over 300 pounds. Size-wise, he could slot right into a college program next fall. He has excellent quickness and balance on his feet from doubling as a basketball player and owning the post. It shows in his footwork on the field.

His recruitment is a national one, but he is finally ready to narrow it down. On Monday, he announced his top eight schools.

OU is competing against SMU, Missouri, Texas, LSU, FSU, Texas A&M, and the University of Tennessee for the No. 6 tackle in 247Sports’ composite rankings.

The two big schools from Texas seem to be Oklahoma’s biggest threats, but the Sooners are still in a good spot with Rogers as we head into summer. Rogers has official visits planned for Missouri, Texas, SMU, and A&M. He’ll be in Norman for his official visit on June 18th.

This recruitment is far from decided, and Bill Bedenbaugh cannot be counted out. Over the next few months, the Sooners will have a fascinating recruitment to follow.

Duke softball wins second-ever ACC Tournament title with 6-3 win over Florida State

The Blue Devils trailed FSU 3-0 in the middle of the fourth inning of Saturday’s ACC title match, but after back-to-back walk-offs, these heroics were easy.

For the second time in school history, the Duke Blue Devils are ACC Softball Tournament champions after they took down Florida State 6-3 on Saturday.

Duke, the conference’s regular-season champions, needed some heroics just to get to the title game. Sophomore Aminah Vega hit a two-run home run for a walk-off victory over Boston College in the quarterfinals, and freshman Amiah Burgess raced all the way home from second on an infield single to beat Clemson in extra innings during the semifinals.

In the top of the fourth inning of Saturday’s title game, it looked like the Blue Devils’ luck finally ran out. Florida State scored the first two runs of the game on a two-run homer from Kalei Harding, and Michaela Edenfield followed with an RBI double two batters later.

However, Duke immediately answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame. ACC Player of the Year Claire Davidson and Vega singled to get a pair of base runners aboard before junior Ana Gold brought home the former with a sacrifice fly. Catcher Kelly Torres drove home a second run with a single of her own right afterward.

The Blue Devils turned to First Team All-ACC pitcher Cassidy Curd for the final four innings of the game, and she did her job masterfully. After the three runs to start the fourth, she entered the game with a runner on second with no outs. She retired three straight Seminoles, the last two by strikeout, to escape the inning without further damage.

Across her four innings in the circle, Florida State only managed a single baserunner: a two-out walk in the seventh inning. Curd retired 12 of the 13 batters she faced with three strikeouts.

The offense couldn’t pull even in the fifth inning, but the Blue Devils broke the game apart in the sixth. After two walks in the first three at-bats of the inning, Gold struck again with an RBI single to tie the game. FSU decided to walk Torres, which loaded the bases for shortstop Jada Baker.

Baker grounded toward second base, and Florida State’s Devyn Flaherty tried to force the out at home plate but couldn’t place the throw correctly. Burgess, for the second time in two days, broke a 3-3 tie at home plate.

Duke added two more runs later in the inning, a two-run single from Gisele Tapia, to add some insurance. The Seminoles couldn’t add anything in the top of the seventh, yet another perfect inning from Curd cementing the win for the Blue Devils.

The postseason now awaits with Duke trying to clinch its first-ever appearance in the Women’s College World Series.

Which Chargers UDFA is most likely to make the 53-man roster?

Bleacher Report’s Ryan Fowler predicts which undrafted free agent will make the Chargers’ 53-man roster.

The Chargers signed 20 free agents after the draft, one of which was former Florida State safety Akeem Dent.

Bleacher Report’s Ryan Fowler listed every team’s undrafted free agent most likely to make the 53-man roster, and he believes Dent has the best chance.

Here is what Fowler had to say:

The Los Angeles Chargers have always prioritized versatility. Florida State safety Akeem Dent fits that script to a T.

Dent has experience playing at all three levels with varying assignments, and he operates with the physicality and playmaking ability that defensive coordinators covet.

Dent amassed 16 pass breakups during his five-year tenure at Florida State, and he recordedĀ more than 300 snapsĀ in the box, at nickel, outside corner and free safety. That type of versatility often paves the way not only for an NFL roster spot, but actual snaps.

The Chargers addressed multiple positions in free agency and the draft with the exception of the safety group. They did re-sign Alohi Gilman to a two-year deal, but the depth is lacking.

Dent is an experienced player, having appeared in 54 games (40 starts). He is versatile, as he has seen playing time at cornerback, safety and nickel. His explosiveness and physicality would serve well on special teams, too.

Across four seasons, Dent totaled 187 tackles, 16 passes defended, five tackles for loss, one sack, two forced fumbles and an interception.
