Five-star OT Francis Mauigoa picks Miami over Alabama, others

Alabama misses out on five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa.

Happy Fourth of July Tide fans! I hope everyone is enjoying their Independence Day on this beautiful Monday.

Today has already been a busy day for [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and his staff in Tuscaloosa as the Tide was able to receive a commitment from four-star offensive lineman [autotag]RyQueze McElderry[/autotag].

Unfortunately for the Tide, Alabama has missed out on five-star offensive tackle [autotag]Francis Mauigoa[/autotag] in favor of the Miami Hurricanes.

Mauigoa picked the Hurricanes over not only Alabama but also USC, Florida, and Tennessee among others.

Despite missing out on Mauigoa, Alabama is still in contention for another five-star offensive tackle in [autotag]Samson Okunlola[/autotag].

Five-star OT Kadyn Proctor cuts his list to two, includes Alabama

Alabama makes the final two for five-star OT Kadyn Proctor.

About a week after his official visit to Tuscaloosa, five-star offensive tackle prospect [autotag]Kadyn Proctor[/autotag] has decided to trim his list of schools down to just two.

The Iowa native announced Friday evening that he was now only considering his home state Hawkeyes and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Not only has Proctor cut his list down but he has also canceled his official visits to Penn State, Oregon, and Michigan. Proctor will now visit Iowa June 24-26.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and Alabama must have made a fantastic impression on the 6-foot-6 320-pound prospect last weekend for him to make such a quick decision following his visit.

Iowa has long been considered the leader for Proctor but the timing of this decision tells me that Alabama may have a better chance at landing him than most originally thought.

Proctor made the announcement on his Twitter account on Friday night.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor Proctor’s recruitment and will provide updates as they happen.

Five-star SG Ja’Kobe Walter to visit Texas

Five-star shooting guard Ja’Kobe Walter is one of Texas’ top targets.

One of the nation’s top prospects in the 2023 recruiting class is on campus this weekend to visit with Chris Beard and the Texas basketball program.

Five-star shooting guard Ja’Kobe Walter is one of Texas’ top targets from the high school level. 247Sports composite ranks Walter as the No. 2 player from the state of Texas and No. 23 overall player in the country.

Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports had high remarks about Walter in his scouting report.

Walter is a scorer with long arms who can knock down shots with range. He shoots a set shot but he is a consistent shooting threat from the three-point line. Walter is one of the consistently productive and fundamentally sound shooting guards in his class and a tighter handle could only assist him in firmly grasping that title. He does a good job on the defensive end with his ability to defend both wing positions given his size, length, and activity.

Texas landed two five-stars in the 2022 cycle in Dillon Mitchell and Arterio Morris. Beard hopes Walter will headline his 2023 recruiting class.

Texas offers 2024 five-star QB Jadyn Davis

Davis is the top quarterback prospect in the class of 2024.

Texas is looking to get a jump on the class of 2024 as the Longhorns sent an offer to five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis this week.

Davis is rated the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the country and No. 2 overall player in the 2024 cycle, according to 247Sports. He has already racked up an impressive offer list of over 30 teams, including the likes of Alabama, Oklahoma, Georgia and many other premier programs.

247Sports recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins raved over Davis’ potential in his scouting report.

Solid pocket presence for his age, but athletic and creative enough to keep plays alive. Can move the chains with his legs. Doesn’t put himself in many risky situations. Peers consider him a leader in the huddle. Will need to develop some arm strength over the next few years, but already capable of making some high-level throws. Viewed by trusted quarterback trainers as a kid that’s well ahead of the curve. Should develop into one of the top passers in the 2024 cycle with the right coaching and mindset.

Steve Sarkisian is not scared to go after the most talented quarterbacks in the country. Texas is all-in on the pursuit of top 2023 prospect Arch Manning.

Five-star QB Arch Manning reportedly set to visit Texas the weekend of March 24th

Arch Manning will be back on campus for a spring visit.

The top prospect in the class of 2023 will be in Austin the weekend of March 24th per a report from Inside Texas.

Five-star quarterback Arch Manning has been a frequent visitor around Texas’ campus, this time he will get a first-hand look at Texas’ spring practice.

While no one knows the timetable for Arch’s commitment, Texas has been in good standing with Manning from the get-go. Playing for a quarterback guru in Steve Sarkisian is a major factor in his recruitment. Manning wants a coach who can prepare him for the next level and Sark has a proven track record.

The Longhorns have been in talks to hire former Duke head coach David Cutcliffe as an analyst. Cutcliffe has a strong relationship with the Manning family as the former coach of both Peyton and Eli Manning.

Manning’s father mentioned Texas among six schools still under consideration in his recruitment.

Five-star LB Anthony Hill releases his top six schools

Texas makes the cut for one of the top players in the 2023 class.

One of the top prospects in the 2023 recruiting class, five-star linebacker Anthony Hill, announced the final six schools left in his recruitment on Monday.

Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Oklahoma, Miami and USC all made the cut for the state of Texas’ top linebacker prospect.

247Sports ranks Hill as the No. 2 player in Texas and No. 9 overall. Recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks had glowing remarks about Hill in his scouting report:

Capable of consistent sideline-to-sideline pursuit with proven blitzing ability. Tone-setter for an FBS-loaded Texas 5A D-I state championship defense as only a sophomore. Produced good numbers despite playing on a unit with a lot of mouths to feed, so to speak. Adequate in-space athleticism in coverage but at his best playing downhill. Owns valuable offensive reps as a short-yardage battering ram with the ball. Shows promising pass-rush instincts despite primary role being off-ball. Main question is position in the long term, but physical tools suggest highest ceiling as an edge player. Regardless, one of the most dynamic defensive prospects in Texas and the country for his class through the 2020 season. Projects as an impact high-major starter with long-term early-round NFL Draft potential.

Adding a player as talented as Hill would be a massive get of any school in the country. Texas has built a bit of a pipeline through Denton Ryan high school that could give them an advantage in his recruitment.

Report: Texas coaches expected to visit with Arch Manning this week

Texas continues its recruitment of top prospect Arch Manning.

Texas’ pursuit of five-star 2023 quarterback Arch Manning continues.

Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports reported on Tuesday that Texas quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee is set to visit Manning later this week.

The Horns are one of many teams to see the No. 1 recruit this week. Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Ohio State are just some of the programs expected to sit down with Manning.

Texas has been in a good spot with Manning for the majority of his recruiting process so far. He has a good relationship with Steve Sarkisian, has taken multiple visits to Austin and likes the idea of playing in the SEC.

The addition of Quinn Ewers seems like it will not play into Manning’s decision. Most of Arch’s top schools have loaded quarterback rooms as is.

Manning’s decision will have a ripple effect across the nation. Many other top prospects have expressed interest in playing with Manning at the next level.

Nations top safety recruit chooses to stay home

Xavier Nwankpa is rated as the nation’s top safety in the 2022 recruiting class and will be remaining close to home to play college football

Xavier Nwankpa is rated as the nation’s top safety recruit in the 2022 cycle and the high school senior is staying home.  Nwankpa, an Altoon, Iowa native announced on Wednesday that he’d be attending college at the University of Iowa.

Nwankpa chose the Hawkeyes out of an offer list that included over 30 programs.  Iowa was his choice after he listed Notre Dame and Ohio State as his other finalists.  He is ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s top safety recruit and the 11th overall prospect nationally.

We predicted today that Notre Dame was unlikely to win his services like anyone else, I always find myself holding out even a little hope whenever there is a Notre Dame hat on such an elite players table of finalists.

Five-star small forward Dillon Mitchell officially signs with Texas

Another great day for Chris Beard. Texas officially signed five-star small forward Dillon Mitchell on Wednesday.

Dillon Mitchell joined fellow five-star guard Arterio Morris in signing with the Longhorns on Wednesday.

The small forward from Florida was a massive get for Chris Beard and his staff. Mitchell is the No. 27 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

The 6-foot-8 Montverde Academy product is a perfect fit to play under Beard’s scheme. He attacks the basket exceptionally well and is athletic enough to guard any position on the court.

Mitchell was such a big get for this recruiting class that Texas assistant coach Ulric Maligi jumped out of a plane. Literally.

The signing of Morris and Mitchell marks the first time Texas has signed multiple five-stars in one class since 2016. The class currently ranks No. 25 in the nation with more players expected to be added.

The momentum Beard has built for Texas basketball is real. A win on the road against No. 1 Gonzaga Saturday might take that momentum through the roof.

Here is the official announcement of Mitchell’s signing from Texas:

Texas Football Recruiting: Five-star in-state offensive tackle releases top 10

Five-star prospect Kam Dewberry has released his top 10 schools. The offensive tackle comes out of the same high school as Samuel Cosmi.

Five-star prospect Kam Dewberry has released his top 10 schools, with Texas making the cut. The offensive tackle comes out of the same high school as future first-round draft pick Samuel Cosmi.

Baylor and Oklahoma are the Longhorns’ competitors within the conference. Six SEC programs are in Dewberry’s top 10, with big-name programs such as Alabama, Georgia, and LSU in the cut. As usual, rival Texas A&M is hot on the trail for an elite in-state prospect.

Dewberry is an important prospect for Texas, considering how poorly the offensive line class was in 2021. Ranked the No. 2 in-state tackle, Herb Hand and the Longhorns need to be able to make a splash.
