Kobe Black is the top-rated prospect in the state of Texas.

Waco Connally cornerback Kobe Black is the top-rated prospect in the state of Texas for the 2024 recruiting cycle.

College coaches all over the country are working hard to land the talented defensive back. Black has offers from the likes of Alabama, Ohio State, USC, Texas A&M and other premier programs.

Black is a top priority for Steve Sarkisian and Texas’ coaching staff this cycle. After landing four five-stars in the 2023 class, Texas hopes Black can be a catalyst for this cycle.

On3 Sports sat down with Black to discuss teams standing out in his recruitment. Black stated he liked the atmosphere Texas is building on campus following his January visit.

“Everybody there, I’d say they don’t sugarcoat anything. They always tell the truth. There are good vibes there. Everything’s cool there.”

Black has no rush to commit to a school anytime school. He is planning to be patient with the recruiting process and take his official visits in the spring.

Five-star CB Jahlil Hurley is ‘locked in’ with Alabama

Five-star CB Jahlil Hurley is ‘locked in’ with the Crimson Tide!

Five-star cornerback Jahlil Hurley committed to [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and Alabama back in February, but many thought that the talented Hurley might be wavering from his commitment to the Tide after he took a visit to in-state rival Auburn.

On Sunday afternoon, while speaking with On3, Hurley cleared up the air on the status of his recruitment, saying, “I’m locked in, not going anywhere.”

Hurley would go on to say he plans to enroll early with the Tide.

“I will be going there next December; I’m done. … After I came back from the visit, I just had a long talk with my coach and people around me. They know what’s best for me too, and I made the the best decision for me.”

Hurley would make it clear that his relationship and the coaching he would receive with from head coach Nick Saban and defensive back coach Travaris Robinson were major factors.

“I get coached by Saban, the GOAT, T’Rob, GOAT No. 2. He’s a cornerback specialist. And Alabama is great program, great city to live in, great fan base.”

Earlier this month Hurley had a chance to camp with Alabama and apparently received some great coaching.

“It was a really good moment for me, learned a bunch of new techniques that I can put into my game. I can work on it now, and it’ll be even better when I get on campus. … “It was amazing, honestly. Coach Saban knows a lot and has been in the game for a long time. He has the tools to get me to the next level, and that’s where I want to be.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor Jahil Hurley’s recruitment leading up to signing day.

Alabama’s 2023 recruiting class just received a significant commitment from five-star cornerback Jahlil Hurley. Hurley is a talented in-state prospect from Florence High School in north Alabama.

Hurley becomes the second commitment for the Tide in the 2023 class, joining fellow defensive back prospect Elliot Washington who committed to Alabama back in January.

Hurley is a prototypical modern-day cornerback standing at 6 feet, 2 inches, 170 pounds. Hurley is a fluid athlete who also excels on the hardwood.

Landing Hurley could prove to be important in Alabama’s pursuit of the remaining talented in-state prospects in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Red River Showdown: 5 recruits Oklahoma and Texas vying for

A look at five recruits Oklahoma and Texas are both competing for and an update on their recruitments.

On or off the field, the battle between Oklahoma and Texas for supremacy never ends. When these teams line up for this year’s battle, there will be quite a bit of familiarity between the players. Oklahoma has 48 players from the state of Texas on their roster.  The number is significantly less for Oklahoma players on Texas’ roster but nonetheless, these teams cross paths in recruiting so frequently it’s become normal.

Guys like Billy Bowman and Ja’Tavion Sanders were high school teammates in Texas but ended up going to Oklahoma and Texas respectively. Both schools were the finalists for both. They aren’t the first and they sure won’t last recruits these teams will fight over.

Luckily, we compiled a list of a few notable names from the 2022 recruiting class and the 2023 recruiting class that both Oklahoma and Texas are duking it out over.

*In order to qualify, we selected names that are seriously considering both schools or we feel as if both schools will be right there at the end for said prospect’s commitment.*

Five-star CB Denver Harris to announce commitment on National Signing Day

One of Texas’ top defensive priorities will take it all the way.

There may not be a more important defensive target on Texas’ recruiting board than five-star Denver Harris. Defensive back coach Terry Joseph and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski have been working hard on the North Shore product.

According to CJ Vogel of The Football Brainiacs, Harris is set to announce his commitment on National Signing Day. The five-star originally teased a commitment on his 18th birthday of Sept. 22.

Texas was able to push back the date with an unofficial visit this past weekend. Getting a 35 point win over Texas Tech was a huge benefit for Steve Sarkisian’s staff. Closing on the top defensive target is the No. 1 priority going forward.

For Harris, Alabama remains the biggest competitor, while LSU and Texas A&M hang in the balance.

Harris has been suffering from a knee injury and has yet to play during his senior season. Once he does, programs around the country will reaffirm him as the top defensive prospect in the nation.

Nick Saban has personally recruited Harris, showing he is one of the best defensive backs overall. If Texas is going up against the Alabama head coach, a difficult task is ahead.

Getting an official visit during the month of June can do nothing but help the Longhorns. However, another unofficial visit with a solid defensive performance would help Texas’ chances.

On the 247Sports composite, Harris ranks as the No. 9 overall player and the No. 2 player within the state of Texas. At the cornerback position, the five-star ranks as the No. 3 prospect.

All eyes will be on Harris as he announces his commitment in December.

2023 Five-star CB Tony Mitchell includes Alabama in top seven schools

The five-star cornerback is down to seven schools.

Alabama has quite the in-state talent at its disposal in the 2023 class. Seven players rank inside of the top 100 with four five-stars. Battling Auburn, Georgia, and even Clemson for their signatures with be difficult.

Cornerback Tony Mitchell out of Thompson High School is the top-ranked prospect within the state. Alabama was the sixth program to offer the five-star, seeing the potential in him back in July 2019.

On Monday, Mitchell released his top seven schools, including the Crimson Tide. Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Oregon, and Texas A&M also made the list. Florida State, Miami, and Ohio State were cut from his top 10.

Auburn was not added after being cut in August despite receiving a visit this summer.

Mitchell has taken three unofficial visits to Tuscaloosa alongside Junior Day before the pandemic began according to 247Sports. Defensive line coach Freddie Roach has been the lead recruiter for the cornerback.

As things stand, Alabama has no commitments in the 2023 class. They already lead for some of the top prospects, including Mitchell. Three crystal ball predictions were flipped from Tennessee to the Crimson Tide after a March 7, 2020 visit to campus.

On the 247Sports composite, Mitchell is the No. 1 player in the state of Alabama and No. 11 on the national scale. At the cornerback position, the two-time state champion ranks at No. 2.

Top Texas target, five-star CB Denver Harris teases commitment date

Denver Harris’ decision could be coming within the next month. In a video with On3 Recruits, he teased a possible late September commitment.

Heading into the 2021 season, there is no defensive recruit more important remaining on Texas’ board than Denver Harris. The five-star cornerback out of North Shore High School is one of the top prospects in the country and has a top four of Alabama, LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M.

As things stand, this seems to be an Alabama vs Texas battle. Harris will be choosing between staying in the state or heading to Tuscaloosa, which has a rich history of sending defensive backs to the NFL.

That decision could be coming within the next month, as well. In a video with On3 Recruits, Harris teased at a possible late September commitment.

“Yeah, I might just bust out a commitment Sept. 22,” Harris said as he ran away laughing.

Official visits have been taken to both Austin and Tuscaloosa during the summer. Whether or not the five-star cornerback will make another round of visits before his decision is unknown.

Watch the full video here:

Being able to land Harris seems simple enough for Steve Sarkisian. Being able to win on the field is going to attract the top talents to Austin. Dropping early-season games will only continue the downward spiral that is recruiting right now.

If Harris stays true to his Sept. 22 date, Texas will have faced Louisiana, Arkansas, and Rice, with a home game against Texas Tech pending. Starting out 3-0 with two quality wins under the belt could go a long way with the five-star cornerback.

Five-star CB Denver Harris trending toward Alabama over Texas, Texas A&M

One prospect Texas cannot let leave the state is Denver Harris. Unfortunately, Alabama seems to be trending for the five-star CB.

If there is one defensive prospect Texas cannot let leave the state, it is Denver Harris. The five-star cornerback is one of the best in the country, being ranked the No. 3 cornerback on the 247Sports composite.

Harris is currently down to four schools in Alabama, LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M. The first three got official visits during the summer, while College Station was the first place Harris visited unofficially. There was no sense as to where the recruitment was shifting but lately, Nick Saban has been trending.

Two 247Sports crystal ball predictions have been inserted for the Crimson Tide, one with a confidence level of six, the other with five. Horns247 reporter Mike Roach remains the only one with a Texas prediction.

Losing another top player to an elite, national program would be a huge blow to an already damaged recruiting class. Especially out of a prominent high school defensive line coach Bo Davis seems to have good roots in.

It’s understandable as to why Harris would want to go to Tuscaloosa, though. Alabama has put in countless defensive backs in the NFL on a yearly basis.

Steve Sarkisian and his staff will have to show Harris that Austin is still a viable option by winning in the fall.
