The Eagles season is over after a hard-fought 31-15 loss to the Buccaneers in the wild card round of the NFC playoffs.

As the team starts looking towards the draft, we decided to look back at 10 bold predictions after the NFL’s first 17-game regular-season schedule was announced.

Not everything goes as planned and after Philadelphia’s postseason loss, we look back and take a pat on the back for the one prediction we got right.

Texans place three players on COVID-19 reserve, TE Jeff Driskel on injured reserve

The Houston Texans placed three players on COVID-19 reserve and also tight end Jeff Driskel on injured reserve.

Houston Texans coach David Culley said it was coming, and the official report finally came on Wednesday afternoon.

“There could possibly be some coming on,” Culley told reporters on Wednesday. “We have a couple of players that are getting re-tested right now. That way we will know a little bit more, probably after 30 to 60 minutes, however long it takes them to get the test. But there are some more guys that are being tested. They are voluntarily being tested.”

The Texans placed three players on the COVID-19 reserve: receiver Brandin Cooks, linebacker Eric Wilson, and kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn. Assuredly the trio will miss the Week 16 tilt with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Houston also placed tight end Jeff Driskel, who was on the practice squad, on injured reserve.

Here are all 32 football players being recognized on Penn State’s senior day

Sean Clifford, Jahan Dotson, Jaquan Brisker, Journey Brown among those being honored at Penn State’s senior day

Penn State will play its final game in Beaver Stadium for the 2021 season on Saturday afternoon against Rutgers. And with this being the final home game of the season, it is the final opportunity for 32 players to step foot on the field inside Beaver Stadium for a game. Penn State will recognize 32 players for senior day festivities prior to kicking off against Rutgers on Saturday.

Of course, this is a slightly different type of senior day. Of the 32 players being recognized on Saturday afternoon, three players will be going through the senior day ceremony for a second time. Jaquan Brisker, Tariq Castro-Fields, and Ben Wilson were all recognized in Penn State’s senior day ceremony last season, but the NCAA allowed all players to take advantage of an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the entire sports world. So those three players opted for one more season in Happy Valley.

Of note, Penn State will recognize Sean Clifford, who could still potentially return for another season in 2022 (also a result of the NCAA’s decision on extra years of eligibility for all). Clifford isn’t the only player who can take advantage of that option, but there remains plenty of discussion on whether or not Clifford will return for another season.

Clifford’s top receiving target, Jahan Dotson, will also be recognized. Although Dotson could return for another season as well, there is no suggestion he will do so. Dotson is expected to be one of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2022 NFL draft, and some believe he could be a first-round pick.

Penn State will also recognize Journey Brown. Brown was forced to medically retire prior to the 2020 season after learning of a health concern that made continuing playing football a risky endeavor.

Here is the full list of players Penn State will honor during the senior day, as provided by Penn State’s athletics department;

  • Jaquan Brisker
  • Ellis Brooks
  • Journey Brown
  • Tariq Castro-Fields
  • Rafael Checa

Texans claim former Vikings LB Eric Wilson

The Eagles waived Eric Wilson this week. The Texans claimed the former Vikings LB on Thursday.

With Anthony Barr out for most of 2020, the Vikings needed Eric Wilson to step up.

In some respects, Wilson did that. He finished with eight passes defended, three picks and three sacks. Though his basic stats looked good, Wilson had a PFF grade of 53.5. He struggled in run defense and with tackling in general.

All that said, Wilson had a decent 2020 in an important role and signed with the Eagles in free agency. He agreed to a one-year, $2.75 million deal with Philadelphia.

Wilson played in just seven games with the Eagles before the team waived him. In Week 8, Philadelphia ruled Wilson a healthy scratch. The Texans claimed the linebacker off waivers Thursday, the team announced.

Wilson’s mishaps with the Vikings amplified in his short stint with the Eagles. He had a run defense grade of 26.7 and an overall grade of 35.2 on PFF.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said this about Wilson, via Dave Zangaro of nbcphiladelphia.com:

“It’s not that Eric didn’t play well on special teams or didn’t do his job when he was in at practice on special teams. But Shaun (Bradley) really flourished on special teams and Alex (Singleton) is our special teams captain.”

Wilson, once thought of as an enticing 2021 free agent, has had a fall from grace since then. Maybe he can reclaim some of his old turnover-causing magic with Houston.

Eric Wilson wasn’t unemployed long and just 24 hours after being waived by the Eagles, the veteran linebacker has landed with the Texans.

Wilson signed a 1-year, $2.75M deal with Philadelphia back in March, with the idea that he’d be the team’s top linebacker, adding value to a position that had long been ignored.

After playing 85% of the snaps in the season opener against the Falcons, Wilson has seen his playing time decrease each week.

With Wilson out, Philadelphia will turn to T.J. Edwards, Alex Singleton, and Davion Taylor. Shaun Bradley will likely see his snap count increase.

3 takeaways from the Eagles waiving LB Eric Wilson

The emergence of Davion Taylor and T.J. Edwards are among the 3 key takeaways from the Philadelphia Eagles waiving linebacker Eric Wilson.

The Eagles announced another roster move on Wednesday morning, waiving veteran linebacker Eric Wilson.

Wilson signed a one-year deal with the Eagles back in late March, with the expectation that he’d shore up Philadelphia’s depth at linebacker. Wilson entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati.

With Philadelphia moving on, here are 3 key takeaways from the deal.

Eagles vs. Lions inactives: Eric Wilson won’t dress for matchup against Detroit

After playing the bulk of the snaps in Week 1, Philadelphia Eagles Eric Wilson will be inactive against the Detroit Lions after seeing his playing time decrease each week.

After an offseason of value-free agent signings, it was assumed that Eric Wilson would finally relieve some of the Eagles’ struggles at linebacker.

After playing 85% of the snaps in Week 1, the former Vikings linebacker will be inactive against the Lions after seeing his playing time decrease each week.

Philadelphia vs. Carolina: 15 Eagles who need a big game in Week 5

Looking at 15 Philadelphia Eagles who need a big game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 5

The Eagles are set to travel down 85-South for a winnable matchup against the Panthers (3-1), who are looking to rebound from their first defeat of the season.

After getting shredded on defense by the Chiefs, Philadelphia will look to pressure Sam Darnold and Carolina team that could be without star running back Christian McCaffrey.

With Week 5 upon us, here are 15 Eagles who need huge performances on Sunday.

Should the Eagles have interest in LB Jaylon Smith after his release from Cowboys?

Should the Eagles have interest in veteran linebacker Jaylon Smith after his release from the Dallas Cowboys?

The Eagles have a need for a versatile, athletic linebacker, and the Cowboys just released a familiar player at the position.

Adam Schefter is reporting that Dallas is releasing linebacker Jaylon Smith. The former Notre Dame star linebacker has seen his playing time dwindle behind star rookie Micah Parsons and free-agent signee Keanu Neal.

Philadelphia has struggled to defend the pass at the linebacker position and it’s now become a growing problem on a week to week basis.

Smith, a former second-round pick who counts $9.8 million against the cap this season, played 97.8 percent of the Cowboys’ defensive snaps last season and did a good job of spying Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts during their home win over Philadelphia on Monday night football in Week 3.

As a pass-rushing linebacker, Smith has excelled during his career with 9.0 sacks, 15 quarterback hits, and 20 tackles for loss.
