On3’s Steve Wiltfong predicts Oklahoma to land 2025 4-Star linebacker

On3 Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong predicts the Sooners in the recruitment of four-star linebacker Max Granville.

The Oklahoma Sooners are looking for their first linebacker commitment of a star-studded [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag]. Though much of the attention in recent weeks has been on four-star prospect [autotag]Elijah Melendez[/autotag], the Sooners have created some momentum for a player they’ve been recruiting for some time.

On3 director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong issued a prediction favoring the Oklahoma Sooners for four-star linebacker [autotag]Max Granville[/autotag].

Out of Sugarland, Texas, Granville is considered a top 200 prospect in the class by 247Sports, On3, and ESPN, who has Granville as the No. 109 prospect in the class. He’s ranked as one of the top 25 players at his position and as high as the No. 9 linebacker in the cycle by Rivals.

Granville was a late addition to the visitor list for the Sooners, spending time with the coaching staff and with a number of players who are already committed in the class.

He’s a 6-foot-2, 225-pound prospect with a fantastic motor. Granville is a natural pass rusher who displays a great spin move, stutter step, and swim move. Though he might be considered a linebacker, he looks like a player who could be a natural cheetah in [autotag]Zac Alley[/autotag]’s defense.

The Sooners’ main contender for Granville appears to be the Texas A&M Aggies, but with Wiltfong’s prediction, it looks like the Sooners have taken a significant lead.

Update

A few hours after Wiltfong’s prediction for On3, Landyn Rossow, who covers Texas A&M recruiting for Rivals, issued a Futurecast favoring the Sooners.

5-star OT Michael Fasusi headlines official visitors list for Norman this weekend

Oklahoma is set to host a number of uncommitted prospects headlined by five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi in Norman this weekend.

Official visit season is in full swing, and Norman will see a number of visitors throughout June. Last week, the Sooners hosted several prospects and this weekend is no different.

Right now, the Sooners are ranked No. 7 overall in recruiting for the class of 2025 and trail the USC Trojans. Things are far from over, and there is a real chance that Oklahoma could find itself in the top five when all is said and done for the 2025 cycle.

Last week, names like [autotag]Kade Pietrzak[/autotag], [autotag]Daris Afalava[/autotag], and [autotag]Da’Saahn Brahme[/autotag] visited Norman, hoping to learn how they would fit into life as Oklahoma Sooner student-athletes.

Things went well for Pietrzak. Multiple predictions came in earlier this week favoring the Sooners. Afalava included the Sooners in his top four that he released on Wednesday. So, the visits have paid dividends.

There’s a lot more to be excited about this weekend. Below, we’ve rounded up all the names expected to be in Norman for official visits.

  • [autotag]Michael Fasusi[/autotag], five-star OT
  • [autotag]Cortez Mills[/autotag], four-star WR
  • [autotag]Mark Iheanachor[/autotag], four-star LB
  • [autotag]Elijah Melendez[/autotag], three-star LB (committed to the Miami Hurricanes)
  • [autotag]Trent Wilson[/autotag], three-star DT commit
  • [autotag]Marcus Harris[/autotag], four-star WR
  • [autotag]Makhi Williams-Lee[/autotag], three-star DT
  • [autotag]Floyd Boucard[/autotag], three-star DT

We also wanted to share a few important notes about the visitors. Let’s start with Michael Fasusi, the highest-rated player set to touch down in Norman this weekend. Fasusi’s recruitment has always been between the big schools in Texas and Oklahoma. Things seem to be trending the Longhorns direction, so in many ways, this weekend feels like Oklahoma’s final push to sway things in their direction in a big way. Oklahoma has a few five-star offensive tackles they are in on, and landing one would be a significant boost to this class and a big personal win for offensive line coach [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag].

Iheanachor and Melendez are pivotal recruits because Oklahoma does not have a single linebacker committed for the class of 2025. Both are inside linebackers and will play that position in college. Oklahoma would love to land a commitment from either of them to give them a little depth inside heading into next year. Both are intense, physically fearless players who use instincts to dole out punishment.

Marcus Harris was a late add, but he hails from California, where he plays ball at the famous Mater Dei High School. The West Coast recruitment effect is real with him, but Emmett Jones got Harris to cancel his visit to Oregon and come to Norman instead. That may be a situation to monitor.

Boucard and Williams-Lee will accompany Trent Wilson, the lone Oklahoma commit of the weekend. Wilson will work to convince the other defensive tackles to join him in Norman.

Oklahoma has a weekend ahead of itself. They’ll be rolling out the red carpet. Only time will tell how effective these visits were.

Auburn provides an ‘eye-opening’ experience for Miami commit Elijah Melendez

Hugh Freeze and DJ Durkin gained trust with Melendez during his recent visit to Auburn.

The race continues on for many of the nation’s top football recruits as numerous official visits were taken over the weekend. Auburn hosted multiple notable players, trying to make statements that will help head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] turn his program around.

One of the players that visited is current Miami commit and four-star linebacker [autotag]Elijah Melendez[/autotag], who has been committed since December, but is still making visits to other schools.

The Osceola High School (Florida) product made the trip to the Plains joined by his older brother, who felt the same positive sentiment on about the visit.

Melendez has a special feeling about the relationship that he is building with both Freeze and defensive coordinator [autotag]DJ Durkin[/autotag]. The trust is there, and that is important for what he wants as a player.

“Just being around the staff, Coach (DJ) Durkin and Coach Hugh Freeze,” Melendez said in an interview with Auburn Live. “Just building better bonds with them and seeing their plans for me here and being able to trust them. They gained a lot of trust with me this weekend and that really helps a lot.”

The Miami commit is ranked No. 169 in the class of 2025 and the No. 20 linebacker according to the On3 industry ranking. He is also ranked the No. 24 player in the state of Florida.

A flip from Melendez would be a big turn of events for the Auburn. Should he commit, he would join a stout defensive class that already includes four-star linebacker [autotag]Tyler Lockhart[/autotag], along with fellow Florida native in cornerback [autotag]Dante Core[/autotag].

Four-star Miami commit schedules official visit to Auburn

Hugh Freeze and DJ Durkin are working to flip four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez from Miami.

Auburn football head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] is known for “flipping” recruits. His next one could be in the form of a Miami pledge.

[autotag]Elijah Melendez[/autotag], a four-star linebacker and Miami commit from Kissimmee, Florida, has scheduled an official visit to the Plains. According to a report from Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover, Melendez will kick off his scheduled summer visits on May 31 in Auburn.

Melendez is a popular name within the 2025 recruiting cycle as he has racked up many offers from programs such as Colorado, Ohio State, Florida, and Michigan. In a recent interview with Inside the U, Melendez says he is “100 percent” committed to Miami, but will continue the recruiting process until signing day in December.

Outside of Auburn, Melendez plans to visit Michigan on June 14 and Miami on June 21. According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Melendez is the No. 15 linebacker for the 2025 cycle and the No. 20 player from talent-rich Florida.

Class of 2025 linebacker details visit to UF campus

The Florida Gators hosted numerous recruits from the class of 2025, and there’s hope to flip a three-star commit from the Miami Hurricanes.

The reviews for junior day at the Florida football program are coming in from the visiting recruits, and positivity is raining down from the coaching staff and a in-state three-star prospect from the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Osceola High School linebacker [autotag]Elijah Melendez[/autotag] made an official visit to the UF campus this past weekend to meet with several members of the Gators coaching staff, including head coach Billy Napier.

Melendez gave his review and detailed the trip to Swamp247, stating that one defensive coach was with him for most of the visit.

“It was actually really good,” Melendez said. “Coach (Cannon) Gibbs made sure to prioritize me the whole time I was there. He was really with me the whole time I was there. I got to have a meeting with Coach (Ron) Roberts, Coach [Austin] Armstrong, and Coach (Billy) Napier. They made it known to me that I am a priority.”

Melendez is actually familiar with new co-defensive coordinator Ron Roberts, giving the Gators the edge at recruiting the 3-star recruit.

“It was really good to get around him,” Melendez said of his time around Roberts. “I am really excited he got (the UF) job. It really helps Florida a lot with them recruiting me still. Coach Roberts knows a lot, and he’s just a great coach. They really made it known to me that I am the top guy on their MIKE board. I actually knew Coach Roberts already from when he was at Auburn. So this wasn’t like a first meeting or anything.”

Melendez is a 3-star linebacker from Kissimmee, Florida, ranking at No. 34 among his position and is No. 146 overall according to the 247Sports composite scale. He’s currently listed as a “hard commit” to the Miami Hurricanes.

How Penn State got on the radar of elite 2025 linebacker

After a solid early signing period for 2024, Penn State is already on the radar for an elite linebacker in the Class of 2025.

Recruiting is a lot of hard work by the entire coaching staff and athletic department to ensure Penn State is able to reach the level of talent and caliber of athlete that will help them compete at a high level in the Big Ten and nationally.

It was a fantastic Wednesday for the Nittany Lions on Dec. 20 when all 25 of their 2024 commits signed their letters of intent.

But as it’s become ever apparent that recruiting never stops in college football, Penn State has to turn their attention to the next class.

They got some great news when Top-50 linebacker, [autotag]Elijah Melendez[/autotag], included the Nittany Lions in his top eight schools.

Originally, Penn State wasn’t even on his radar until a random coincidence made him and his family take an impromptu visit to campus that made him seriously consider them as an option for his future.

Melendez spoke with Ryan Snyder of On3 about how everything came to be that ended up with the Nittany Lions making his cut (story requires a subscription).

According to the coveted prospect, he saw the Penn State exit sign on his way back from Columbus, OH to New Jersey. where his dad lives. Melendez wanted to stop by the school and texted the coaches before they arrived.

He was then able to tour the campus, facility and entire school while meeting with the coaching staff for about two-and-a-half hours. It was a relationship building moment between both parties after they had previously offered the linebacker a scholarship.

They continued to build this relationship and Melendez was able to get his first taste of Beaver Stadium when he attended the game against Michigan.

This drove the Nittany Lions high up on his list and is now seriously considering Penn State as an option, telling Snyder that Michigan, Ohio State and Miami are the other schools high on his list.

Melendez is a super talented prospect in the class of 2025 and is someone that could become a major priority for this coaching staff.

4-star LB Elijah Melendez makes commitment

Four-star linebacker recruit Elijah Melendez makes commitment

Four-star linebacker recruit Elijah Melendez committed to the Miami Hurricanes over Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama and Michigan among others. Melendez, who is one of the top linebackers in the 2025 recruiting cycle, went on a recent visit to Miami.

Melendez plays high school football for Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Florida. The four-star is a junior and is the No. 146 recruit in the country and the No. 17 linebacker, per 247Sports.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker has received a great deal of recruiting attention from elite schools across the nation.

Melendez is a speedy linebacker and a big hitter. The four-star could be an early contributor on special teams for Miami. Melendez announced his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes.

The Georgia Bulldogs continue to recruit at an elite level. Georgia has one of  the nation’s top recruiting classes of 2024 and 2025.

Top-50 Class of 2025 linebacker includes Penn State among eight schools

Where Penn State stands in the running for a key linebacker in the Class of 2025.

Penn State has built a reputation of having elite linebackers in college to the point of getting their infamous nickname “Linebacker U.”

The job description of that position has changed from primarily being a run stopping role to doing that as well as being involved in stopping the passing game.

With more explosive offenses joining the Big Ten going forward and once archaic offensive schemes becoming more modern, it’s never been more important for the Nittany Lions to continue to recruit and develop the position at a high level.

That’s why being included in the Top-8 of 2025 four-star linebacker, [autotag]Elijah Melendez[/autotag], was such a huge deal.

The Florida native is 6’2″ 210 pounds and is one of the best players in his state and has wracked up just shy of 40 scholarship offers from some of the best programs across the country.

Melendez cut his list of schools down to eight on Thursday and included Penn State along with Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, USC, Miami and Colorado.

The interesting thing about Melendez as a prospect is that On3 is much higher on him in their evaluations than the other three major recruiting sites.

By their rankings, the linebacker is the No. 48 overall player in the 2025 class and ninth best at his position. But, their industry rankings have him as 119th player in the country and 14th best linebacker.

Still, there’s no doubt that this is a coveted prospect who Penn State would love to add to their 2025 class.

According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Nittany Lions have the third-best and third-worst odds to land Melendez with less than one percent. Miami is the massive favorite to pick up a commitment with a 68.9% chance.

It’s still very early in his recruitment and the RPM isn’t all the way representative of where he’s leaning since there are only four teams listed according to them.

Melendez’s recruitment will certainly be one to monitor.

Ohio State makes top eight for Florida 2025 linebacker

The Buckeyes are still in it for one of 2025’s top linebackers

Since this summer, Ohio State has turned up it’s recruiting efforts for Florida 2025 linebacker [autotag]Elijah Melendez[/autotag], when they officially offered him a scholarship.

Although the No. 23 linebacker and 189th overall prospect in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings didn’t make it to Columbus during the season, the Buckeyes did enough to make a positive impression on Melendez.

When he dropped his top 8 schools, it confirmed that Ohio State is still on his mind, despite not making an unofficial visit. The Buckeyes will have to battle multiple Big Ten foes for Melendez’s commitment including Michigan, USC, and Penn State along with a few programs.

Doing some social media scrubbing, it looks like the Buckeyes are in an uphill battle in this recruitment.

4-star LB names Georgia football in top 8

4-star LB names Georgia in top 8 schools

2025 four-star linebacker Elijah Melendez included Georgia in his top-8 schools on Thursday.

Melendez’s top schools are Georgia, Ohio State, USC, Alabama, Michigan, Miami, Colorado and Penn State.

A junior at Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Fla., Melendez is rated as the No. 189 recruit in the country, the No. 23 linebacker and the No. 27 player in Florida, according to 247Sports.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker holds 38 offers for good reason. His frame and athleticism already points to a bright college career.

The Bulldogs currently hold the No. 3 ranked class in the 2025 cycle, with four-star Jadon Perlotte as the only linebacker commit thus far. A pledge from Melendez would be a nice addition for Glenn Schumann and company.
