Chargers lose key defender for remainder of the season, playoffs

The Chargers will be without a key defender on the back end of the defense.

Elijah Molden’s 2024 season is officially over.

After suffering a broken fibula in the Chargers’ win over the Patriots, Molden posted on his personal Instagram account to announce that he would be sidelined for the final game of the regular season and the playoffs.

The injury occurred in the third quarter.

Los Angeles traded with the Titans for Molden before the start of the season, and the 25-year-old safety went on to have arguably the best campaign of his professional career.

Molden finished with career-highs in tackles (75), passes defended (7), interceptions (3) and fumbles recovered (2).

Alohi Gilman and Marcus Maye are on injured reserve, which means Eddie Jackson, who signed to the practice squad and was promoted to the active roster last week, will be expected to step up.

Chargers make roster moves ahead of Week 17 vs. Patriots, activate J.K. Dobbins from IR

J.K. Dobbins should provide a boost to a running back room that’s been up and down over the past month.

The Chargers made a few roster moves ahead of the Week 17 game against the Patriots on Saturday.

Los Angeles activated running back J.K. Dobbins from injured reserve, and he is expected to play.

Dobbins suffered a knee injury in the Bolts’ loss to the Ravens last month. His presence should provide a boost to a running back room that struggled with efficiency while he was sidelined.

In 11 games, Dobbins has 766 yards and eight touchdowns on 158 rushes (4.8 yards per carry).

In other roster-related news, the Chargers elevated safeties Eddie Jackson and Kendall Williamson from the practice squad.

Jackson was signed to the practice squad earlier this week.

Throughout his pro career, Jackson has totaled 15 interceptions, 45 passes defended, 10 forced fumbles and 489 tackles. He is tied for third in Bears franchise history with six career defensive touchdowns.

Chargers sign former All-Pro safety to practice squad

The Chargers added a ballhawking safety to their practice squad.

The Chargers signed safety Eddie Jackson to the practice squad on Monday.

In correspondence, Los Angeles released running back John Kelly from the practice squad.

The acquisition of Jackson came in wake of safety Marcus Maye being placed on injured reserve.

Jackson recently played with the Ravens before being released a month ago. In nine games with Baltimore, Jackson recorded 30 tackles with a pass defended.

A fourth-round selection out of Alabama by the Bears in 2017, Jackson started all 100 games he appeared in over seven seasons. He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection and earned All-Pro honors in 2018.

Throughout his pro career, Jackson has totaled 15 interceptions, 45 passes defended, 10 forced fumbles and 489 tackles. He is tied for third in Bears franchise history with six career defensive touchdowns.

Baltimore Ravens waive former Alabama DB Eddie Jackson

Former Alabama DB waived by Baltimore Ravens.

Former Alabama Crimson Tide DB Eddie Jackson’s stint with the Baltimore Ravens didn’t last long. He was waived today after playing just 11 games with Baltimore after signing a one-year $1.5 million deal in July.

Jackson didn’t see a massive role in 2024, with just five appearances and two starts for nine total tackles. The Former Alabama standout spent the first seven years of his career in Chicago, where he was a two-time Pro Bowler and a First-Team All-Pro in 2019. He was also named one of the 100 greatest Bears of all time.

There will certainly be a team out there interested in Jackson’s services, with the playoffs starting in just a few weeks The Ravens could always sign him to the practice squad, but I’d imagine Jackson wants an opportunity to see the field.

The Ravens will take on the Charges on Monday Night Football this week.

Ravens waive veteran safety ahead of MNF game vs. Chargers

Baltimore Ravens waive veteran safety Eddie Jackson ahead of MNF game vs. the Los Angeles Chargers

The Eddie Jackson experiment is over in Baltimore, as the Ravens are waiving the veteran’s safety.

Jackson (non-injury-related) did not travel to Pittsburgh with the team and was ruled out for the Week 11 loss to Pittsburgh.

After starting in Cleveland in Week 8, Jackson was a healthy scratch in Week 9 and played a season-low 16 snaps in Week 10.

Beau Brade could replace him in the lineup. Marcus Williams could be next, with Ar’Darius Washington and Kyle Hamilton as starters.

Have the Ravens solved their defensive struggles with a reshuffled secondary?

Have the Ravens solved their defensive struggles with a reshuffled secondary?

By far, the Baltimore Ravens‘ biggest weakness and biggest surprise through 11 weeks of the 2024 season has been the secondary’s play. The Ravens entered the season with what looked like one of the league’s top coverage units on paper, but reality disagreed once the pads came on.

All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton, cornerback Marlon Humphrey, and rookie first-round cornerback Nate Wiggins have all had good seasons. Still, the drastic falloff from veteran free safety Marcus Williams and cornerback Brandon Stephens to go with poor play from newly acquired safety Eddie Jackson has tanked Baltimore’s pass defense. Through 11 weeks, the Ravens have allowed the most passing yards in the league.

After allowing quarterback Joe Burrow to throw for 428 yards and four touchdowns, with wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase going for 264 yards and three touchdowns through the air against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10, Baltimore decided to make changes on the backend of the defense. Williams was benched for the second time this season, while Hamilton and Ar’Darious Washington formed the starting safety duo against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11. This was a change for Hamilton, as the do-it-all star is best known for his game-wrecking ability closer to the line of scrimmage, but after the results against the Steelers, he may have found a new home on the defense to finish this year.

The Ravens’ secondary stifled quarterback Russell Wilson, holding him to 205 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and -7.41 expected points through the air. Wide receiver George Pickens was held under 100 yards and out of the endzone, with cornerback Tre’Davious White having a pair of impressive pass deflections against him to prevent touchdowns. White played 24 snaps against Pittsburgh, eating into Stephens’ role on the boundary.

While the Steelers offense has not been one of the league’s best this season, Wilson’s ability to connect with Pickens down the field was something to fear coming into the game, and Baltimore kept a lid on the duo for the most part. The Ravens will face more formidable challenges to see if reshuffling the secondary has fixed the issues plaguing the defense, starting with a Monday Night Football showdown against star quarterback Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers.

Ravens star S ruled OUT vs Steelers

Baltimore safety Eddie Jackson did not travel with the team.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens square off, Baltimore will be minus one starting safety. According to ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter, safety Eddie Jackson didn’t travel to Pittsburgh and has been ruled out for Sunday’s game.

Jackson is a two-time Pro Bowl safety and a first-team All-Pro from his days with the Chicago Bears. Unfortunately for Jackson, it seems his best football is well behind him and most Ravens fans are glad he’s not starting and feels like the defense is better without him.

The Ravens starting quarterbacks on Sunday will be Kyle Hamilton who has dealt with an injury this week and Marcus Williams. The absence of Jackson should move rookie Sanoussi Kane up on the depth chart.

Ravens safety doesn’t travel with team, ruled out for game vs. Steelers in Week 11

Baltimore Ravens safety Eddie Jackson to miss game vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11 for personal reasons

The Ravens will face the Steelers in Week 11, and backup safety Eddie Jackson (non-injury-related) will not travel to Pittsburgh with the team and has been ruled out for tomorrow’s game.

The Ravens’ 32nd-ranked secondary will have Kyle Hamilton in the lineup but no Arthur Maulet against a Pittsburgh offense that has averaged more than 30 points per game over the past three weeks since Russell Wilson took over as the starter.

After starting in Cleveland in Week 8, Jackson was a healthy scratch in Week 9 and played a season-low 16 snaps in Week 10.

Beau Brade could replace him in the lineup. Marcus Williams, Hamilton, and Ar’Darius Washington will be the three starting safeties.

John Harbaugh shares thoughts on the play of Eddie Jackson, Ar’Darius Washington

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh shared his thoughts on defensive backs Eddie Jackson and Ar’Darius Washington

The Baltimore Ravens lost to the Cleveland Browns in Week 8 by the final score of 29-24. It was a heartbreaking defeat, with many factors contributing to why Baltimore dropped the game.

One reason the Ravens fell short was their secondary play. When asked about the performances of Eddie Jackson and Ar’Darius Washington, head coach John Harbaugh mentioned that he thought both played solid football and that the team needed to make a few more plays.

“I thought [Ar’Darius Washington and Eddie Jackson] played solid football. They were in the right spot [and] doing the right things the vast majority of time. I thought they played hard, made some good tackles and were in solid position [most] times. For all of us, we all want to just make a few more plays, get a few more pressures, get a few more sacks, get a few more batted balls, get a few more PBUs – that’d be good; catch the ball on the interceptions – that’s the big one from this game. Everybody wants to make plays. I just think we have to keep chasing that.”

Jackson struggled mightily on Sunday, while Washington also contributed to a poor defensive effort but made a few plays. The secondary must be better, and hopefully, that trend can start in Week 9 against the Denver Broncos.
