Philadelphia Eagles again elevated rookie wide receiver Britain Covey and tight end Noah Togiai for Week 2 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings

The Eagles announced two roster moves ahead of the team’s home opener against the Minnesota Vikings at Lincoln Financial Field.

With the team needing depth in the return game and wide receiver, Britain Covey was elevated from the practice squad along with tight end Noah Togiai.

Philadelphia added Janarious Robinson to the 53-man roster after signing the defensive end off the Vikings practice squad.

Derek Barnett is on injured reserve with a torn ACL.

A.J. Brown has record setting debut for Eagles in 38-35 win over Lions in Week 1

A.J. Brown’s 155 receiving yards against the Detroit Lions in Week 1 is the most receiving yards ever for a Philadelphia Eagles player in his first game.

The Eagles paid A.J. Brown $100 million to be a difference maker and all he did on Sunday in the season opener was break a franchise record.

Philadelphia exploded offensively against the Lions, coming away with a 38-35 victory in which Brown went off for ten catches on 13 targets and 155-yards receiving.

Brown’s 155 receiving yards against the Detroit Lions in Week 1 is the most receiving yards ever for a Philadelphia Eagles player in his first game, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, eclipsing a mark set by Donte’ Stallworth (141 yards) in 2006.

Only Anquan Boldin (208 yards, 49ers) and Randy Moss (183 yards, Patriots) had better debuts after being traded in the past 30 years, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

The Eagles will now head home for a gigantic Monday night matchup against the Vikings and one of the NFL’s top receivers, Justin Jefferson.

Eagles to wear White jerseys, and green pants for season opener at Lions

Philadelphia Eagles to wear White jerseys, and green pants for the season opener at Detroit Lions

The Eagles usually wear their all-white uniform combination for road games, but they’ll pull out the green pants for their rematch with the Lions.

Philadelphia prefers to stick with what works; after battering the Lions 44-6 in 2021, the recipe will remain the same for uniforms.

Before pulling out the green pants last season, the Eagles hadn’t used that combination since 2019, and before that, in a Week 15 road game during the 2017 season.

Week 1 NFL Odds: Eagles open as slight road favorites over Lions

Week 1 NFL Odds: Philadelphia Eagles open as slight road favorites over the Detroit Lions

The Eagles will open the 2022 regular season on the road against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, September 11, and the Birds will be slight road favorites according to early betting lines from Tipico Sportsbook.

This will be the first time Philadelphia and Detroit have opened a season against each other and the contest will mark the third consecutive year the Eagles have opened up on the road, which is the team’s longest such streak since 2011-13.

After a disastrous loss to the Raiders, Philadelphia found its identity at Ford Field the following week, as the Eagles dismantled Detroit 44-6 in a game that featured 236 rushing yards, along with a defense that battered quarterback Jared Goff with six sacks, and added a scoop and fumble return for a touchdown by Darius Slay in his return to Detroit.

Eagles to open the 2022 NFL season on the road against the Lions in Week 1

Philadelphia Eagles to open the 2022 NFL season on the road against the Detroit Lions in Week 1

The Eagles will have an opportunity to open the 2022 NFL regular season on a positive note, as The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane is reporting that Philadelphia will open up on the road at the Detroit Lions.

The Eagles and Lions met in 2021 on Halloween, as Philadelphia’s two-headed rushing attack of Boston Scott and Jordan Howard accounted for four touchdowns on the ground, helping the Birds dominate Detroit in a 44-6 win, that helped the team start to establish identity.

McLane is also reporting that the Eagles will face the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas Eve for the first time since 2011. The NFL will only play three games on Christmas Sunday, which will be Week 16 of the regular season.
