Report: EA to remove Washington’s former name, logo from Madden 21

With Washington’s recent announcement of a name change, EA will be removing their name and logo from the upcoming Madden 21.

It’s unclear how long it will take for actual changes to come for Washington as far as removing the old name and logo from their uniforms, stadiums, and merchandise goes. However, that change is happening quickly on CGI, as it was reported on Friday that Electronic Arts (EA) would be removing both from the upcoming Madden 21 video game.

According to ESPN, both the former team name and logo will be removed from the game after the decision was made to change the name going forward in Washington.

“We are pleased to see Washington’s decision to change their team name and visual identity,” an EA representative said in a statement. “We are quickly working to update Madden NFL 21 to feature a generic Washington team, while we await final word on the updated team name and logo design.”

When buyers pick up the physical copy of the game, it will feature the old nickname and logo because discs are already in production, but those assets will be patched out of the game automatically if a user connects the system to the internet.

As soon as a new name is decided on, a plan to implement that name and logo around the stadium and team will surely be put into place.

Jags’ C.J. Henderson, Lions’ Jeff Okudah land same “Madden NFL 20” rating

Despite Jeff Okudah craving the top-5 picks, he and C.J. Henderson will share the same “Madden NFL 20” ratings as rookies.

In just a few weeks, “Madden NFL 20” will be hitting the shelves and NFL fans alike will get to see their favorite players in Electronic Arts updated edition of the renowned series. And while the Jacksonville Jaguars’ full roster ratings haven’t been revealed, we found out the ratings of rookies Laviska Shenault Jr., Collin Johnson, and Jake Luton last week.

We can now officially add the Jags first selection of April’s draft to the mix, too, as it was revealed that both cornerbacks C.J. Henderson and Jeff Okudah were tied for the highest grades of any rookies at their position with a 76.

This is a little surprising as many expected Okudah to be rated a point or two higher than Henderson. However, it does indicate that Electronic Arts view them equally, though we don’t know their attribute ratings.

Heading into the draft, many pundits viewed Okudah as an elite prospect, however, some viewed Henderson as the better athlete. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah was amongst them, as he explained why to Jags Wire and the media back before April before the draft.

“Well, I think there’s a real possibility,” Jeremiah said. “He ended up as my 21st player, but he’s my second corner, and you’re talking about a premier position that everybody is trying to fill at the corner position. That’s not a terrible reach if he were to be the ninth pick, and he’s got all the athletic ability in the world. He tested unbelievably well. He’s fluid and smooth.

My issues with him, why I see the difference between him and Okudah. He’s a better athlete than Okudah, but Okudah is a better football player. Okudah is tougher, Okudah tackles better. He finds and plays the football a little bit better.”

As for how Henderson and Okudah felt about their ratings, lets just say they didn’t seem all that impressed.

For those wanting a copy of the game, it will be out on August 2, though preorders are currently being taken by your local electronics stores.

Chargers RB Joshua Kelley’s initial ‘Madden 21’ rating revealed

Chargers running back Joshua Kelley is a bit lower than anticipated.

Ratings continue to be unveiled for the highly anticipated video game, EA Sports’ “Madden NFL 21.”

Last week, quarterback Justin Herbert and wide receivers K.J. Hill and Joe Reed had theirs revealed. On Tuesday, the rookie running back’s ratings were unfolded.

The Chargers selected former UCLA RB Joshua Kelley in the fourth-round of this year’s draft.

Kelley was given a 67 overall rating.

Here’s a look at other significant ratings for Kelley:

  • Speed – 89
  • Acceleration – 87
  • Strength – 75
  • Agility – 84
  • Awareness – 69
  • Catching – 64
  • Carrying – 88

Kelley joins an ascending backfield that consists of Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson.

Kelley has been seen as strictly a short-yardage specialist by many, but I believe he’s going to be used more than that.

Kelley showed that he is capable of taking on a big load for UCLA in 2018 and 2019, receiving 225 and 229 touches, respectively. However, he made the most with them, posting 1,000-plus rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns in both seasons.

For someone that has that type of production and was taken that high over other positions of need like offensive tackle, wide receiver and cornerback, they’re certainly seen as more than just a bruiser.

I expect the Chargers to roll with a committee approach for their backfield early on in the season, but for Kelley to receive the bulk of the carries as the season goes on, especially if Jackson is unable to stay healthy.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert’s initial ‘Madden 21’ rating revealed

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is the fourth-highest rated rookie quarterback in Madden 21.

The highly anticipated video game, EA Sport’s Madden 21 is a little over month away from being released.

Leading up into the launch, player ratings will be unveiled. On Thursday, rookie quarterbacks ratings were released by former NFL quarterback and Hall of Famer Steve Young.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will have a 70 overall rating in his first season, marking the fourth-highest rated rookie quarterback, trailing Joe Burrow (78), Tua Tagovailoa (73) and Jordan Love (71).

Here’s a glance at Herbert’s other significant ratings:

¡ 82 speed

¡ 87 acceleration

¡ 71 strength

¡ 80 agility

¡ 70 awareness

¡ 69 carrying

¡ 92 throwing power

¡ 59 tackle breaking

¡ 82 jumping

¡ 88 injury

¡ 86 stamina

¡ 88 toughness

¡ 58 trucking

¡ 72 change of direction

¡ 80 ball-carrier vision

¡ 62 stiff-arm

¡ 58 spin move

¡ 72 juke move

¡ 71 sack breaking

¡ 78 throwing under pressure

¡ 83 short accuracy

¡ 78 medium accuracy

¡ 76 deep accuracy

¡ 84 play-action

¡ 81 throw on the run

Herbert has the size, athleticism and arm things, but there are some things needed to be worked on, including his decision-making and instincts under pressure, before he takes the reins.

Herbert, along with the rest of the team’s draft class, have yet to sign their rookie deals.

Madden ’21 will sort of bring College Football back to consoles

The video game football franchise will have an option to return to school and play out your career to the NFL.

If you’re a college football fan, as some point you have played a version of EA Sports NCAA College Football. The game was stopped being made after a judge ruled for former UCLA hooper Ed O’Bannon that using his likeness in the College Basketball edition in 2009. The ruling gave players who were in the games from 2003-2014 about $1,000 each for their likeness.

When you think about the payout was it really worth the hassle and backlash O’Bannon received after all us gamers lost a game we loved? I would say no but the NCAA was able to continue to claim their athletes as amateurs and thus the game was stopped after their 2014 version. Rumors of the game returning have begun with the potential for players to use their likeness again, but there are still hurdles remaining for it to make its return.

The good news however is that EA Sports Madden franchises newest edition will have an option for two years in college, but only 10 schools will be in the pool for you to choose from.

It’s a great idea but clearly isn’t quite as satisfying as a game dedicated to the greatness that is college football, mainly the recruiting aspect. It depends on the position you would make yourself as to where you would go. It’s a neat addition to the Madden franchise, and it scratches the NCAA itch, but not completely. Here’s hoping in the future EA is able to bring back its NCAA video games and we can get back to winning virtual championships with the Irish.

Madden 21 allows the opportunity to play two seasons for the Longhorns

An updated feature in Madden 21’s Face of the Franchise mode will allow you to play for the Longhorns for two season.

It was announced on Tuesday that a new feature in the upcoming Madden franchise produced by EA Sports would allow you to play for 10 select college franchises. Yes, one of those teams would be the Texas Longhorns. While fans clamor and beg for the return of the NCAA football franchise, this gives you a little bit of that with a college mode.

For last year’s edition you could choose one of 10 teams, however they replaced Texas Tech and Florida State with Nebraska and Michigan State.

According to EA Sports’ website, you will face some challenges with the opportunity to play for two seasons  in college before trying your luck in the NFL.

Your story doesn’t end there though as you’re thrust center stage on National Signing Day as ten FBS schools vie for your talents. What starts off as a normal Signing Day ends with a dramatic twist after you don the hat of the school you’ve chosen to attend. Once you set foot on campus the stakes get even higher as you not only have to deftly navigate a Quarterback controversy right out of the gate, but also have to figure out how to appease your domineering, old school approach, newly minted Head Coach Red O’Brien – all while attempting to build your draft stock through two challenging seasons of college football AND win an College Football Playoff Championship (or two) along the way. As if that weren’t enough, you’re thrown out of your comfort zone and into disarray when Coach O’Brien delivers you an ultimatum – either switch positions to Running Back or Wide Receiver, or pack your bags and take your chances in the NFL Draft!

For Longhorns fans, you could very well become your own version of Roschon Johnson. Start out at quarterback only to make the switch to running back or even wide receiver. With so much uncertainty surrounding the upcoming season with COVID-19, this might be one way to guarantee you get your football fix.

Not everyone was excited about the possibility of playing for the University of Texas in the “Face of the Franchise” mode.

Von Miller, Melvin Gordon featured briefly in first ‘Madden 21’ trailer

Broncos linebacker Von Miller and running back Melvin Gordon have brief appearances in the new ‘Madden NFL 21’ commercial.

EA Sports released the first trailer for Madden NFL 21 this week and two Denver Broncos make brief appearances in the one and a half-minute promo.

Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller (recording a sack) and running back Melvin Gordon (catching a pass) are both featured in the trailer.

Gordon and Denver quarterback Drew Lock participated in a Madden NFL 20 celebrity tournament hosted by ESPN earlier this offseason. Lock was eliminated in the first round but Gordon managed to win his first match.

After signing Gordon to a two-year contract during NFL free agency, the Broncos shared a Madden clip of Gordon wearing an orange and blue uniform. Gordon was rated 84 overall in last year’s version of the game.

Miller has consistently been Denver’s highest-rated player in the game since quarterback Peyton Manning retired following the 2015 season. Last year, EA Sports gave Miller a 97 overall rating. To view all of the Broncos’ initial ratings from Madden NFL 20, click here.

WATCH: Le’Veon Bell gets shifty in Madden 21 trailer

Jets running back Le’Veon Bell makes brief appearance in Madden 21 trailer.

While Le’Veon Bell is not on the cover of EA Sports’ Madden 21, he did make an appearance in the game’s trailer.

In the 1minute, 30-second video released by EA Sports on Tuesday, Bell is shown at about the 16-second mark. In his brief appearance, Bell puts a nasty juke move on a Buffalo Bills defender.

The Jets are going to want to see a lot of that from Bell in 2020. He wasn’t able to get in second gear enough last season, mainly because of the offensive line in front of him. However, it did look like Bell might have lost a step after sitting out all of 2018.

In Bell’s first season in New York, he recorded 789 rushing yards on 245 rushing attempts. Bell added 461 receiving yards as well to go along with four total touchdowns.

With a lighter workload and not as much pressure on his legs in 2020, the hope is that Bell can return to his Steelers form when he was one of the league’s top running backs.
