EA Sports to allow FBS players to opt into new college football game

Who can wait?

“It’s in the game.” Maybe. If they want to be.

According to some recently reported news, the new EA Sports college football game that we’ve all been waiting for since Name, Image and Likeness became a thing, will allow FBS players to opt into the game.

Not only that but there will be compensation available, though those terms have yet to be hammered out. According to a report from USA TODAY, EA Sports will work with OneTeam Partners to “facilitate collegiate athletes’ name and likenesses.”

Players can opt in to be a part of all the fun or opt out, in which generic players will be created to fill the spot. There has been a lot of interest and agreements in principle to date for the much-anticipated EA Sports college football game, which would be the first since 2014, but there are still a lot of details to work out.

As of right now, the release date is scheduled for summer of 2024. As more details become available, we’ll bring them to you because we are just as interested as you are.

See where Paul Chryst ranks among CBS Sports’ top-25 Power Five coaches

See where Paul Chryst ranks among CBS Sports’ top-25 Power Five coaches:

On Wednesday, CBS Sports writer Tom Fornelli released his annual top-25 Power Five coaches list, which is voted on by a plethora of CBS college football experts.

Despite a 9-4 season in which UW failed to win the Big Ten West title, Badgers head coach Paul Chryst moved up the list, coming in at No. 14 among the top Power Five coaches after finishing at No. 18 a year ago.

Coach Chryst enters his eighth season with the Badgers, where he’s compiled a 65-23 record and three Big Ten West titles. It’s also worth noting that he’s won the Big Ten Coach of the Year twice during his tenure at Wisconsin (2016, 2017).

Other Big Ten coaches to make the list include Ohio State’s Ryan Day at No. 6, Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh at No. 9, Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz at No. 13, Penn State’s James Franklin at No. 15, Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald at No. 21, Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck at No. 23, and Michigan State’s Mel Tucker at No. 24.

You can read the entire top-25 Power Five coaches list below:

Winners and losers from the college football coaching carousel

Which teams hit home runs and which teams got hurt the most in the coaching carousel so far?

The 2021 coaching carousel has been one of the more wild ones in college football history.

We have seen a little bit of everything this offseason. Successful coaches at premier jobs bolted to other major programs, Miami publicly looked to hire Mario Cristobal while the position was still filled and TCU hired Sonny Dykes from rival SMU from right down the road.

This year’s coaching carousel has already almost doubled the number of coaching changes we saw in 2020. There have been 28 coaching changes made with more likely to come after the bowl season.

All these coaches on the move have made a big impact on the transfer portal and recruiting. More and more players have entered the transfer portal to explore their options for the upcoming seasons.

Much of the future of college football will be defined by the decisions made during this offseason. Take a look at some of the winners and losers of this years coaching cycle:

Five Stars: The best and worst of Notre Dame’s win against FSU

There was some good and some bad tonight for Notre Dame

Football was finally back and although it started quick for the Irish, looked a bit unsettling, then the Irish took control of the game. Florida State didn’t give up, and continued to stay in the game, but the Irish had enough of a fight in them to battle all the way through overtime and return to South Bend with a 41-38. It’s always a crap shoot for openers, teams have the whole offseason to prepare, but the Irish fixed their issues and eventually gutted out tough victory in a difficult environment.

Watch: Tyree gets in on the fun as he scores for Notre Dame

Make that 3 third quarter scores for the Irish!

After a very confusing decision by Florida State to go for it on fourth down and Clarence Lewis picking off a pass, it game Notre Dame a very short field and an opportunity to extend the lead.

That’s exactly what happened as the Irish only needed to go 32 yards to add onto their lead. The drive finished with running back Chris Tyree Getting an opportunity close to the goal line and finished it off with a one-yard touchdown run to extend the Notre Dame lead to 38-20 over the Seminoles. It was an easy score that any team would take and it was the third score of the third quarter for the Irish.

Watch: Notre Dame’s Lewis gets the Irish’s third interception of the night

A trio of picks for the Irish tonight

It was an odd sequence for Florida State, as they went back-to-back plays in the wildcat formation and then unexpectedly on 4th down they went for it. In their own territory. It’s as if Mike Norvell was playing a game of Madden and was about to restart the game.

Well, there isn’t any restarting here as the errand pass from Jordan Travis on fourth down found the hands of Clarence Lewis and just like that the Irish were once again in a prosperous offensive position. It was very confusing as to why Florida State opted to go for it, but the Irish will take the mistake and run with it. Or better yet, intercept it.

Watch: Williams extends lead for Notre Dame on nifty TD reception

The Irish running back made something out of nothing

After Kyle Hamilton register his second interception of the evening, Notre Dame’s offense was given a short field once again. Well, the Irish cashed in again, this time quarterback Jack Coan swung a pass to his right to Kyren Williams, who then worked his magic and somehow found the endzone.

Take a look below as it seemed like Williams was bottled up, but then made a Florida State defender miss, lowered his shoulder and pounded his way into the endzone. It was one heck of an effort from the Irish running back, as he found the endzone for the first time this season and extended Notre Dame lead to 31-20 midway through the third quarter.
