Injury Update: Warriors’ Donte DiVincenzo (hamstring) to be re-evaluated after road trip

Donte DiVincenzo’s hamstring injury is set to be re-evaluated when the Warriors return from their road trip.

The Golden State Warriors have been missing a piece off the bench during their first five-game road trip of the season. After suffering a hamstring injury against the Sacramento Kings, Donte DiVincenzo has been ruled out for the Warriors’ last four games and is set to miss more.

On Tuesday, the Warriors provided an update on DiVincenzo’s injury. After a recent re-evaluation, DiVincenzo is making “good progress” with his injury but will miss the remainder of Golden State’s road swing. According to the Warriors, DiVincenzo will be re-evaluated when the team returns from their road trip over the weekend.

The Warriors will host the Sacramento Kings on Monday at Chase Center before getting a four-day layoff between games. The Warriors won’t open the doors to Chase Center until next Friday for a contest against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Prior to suffering his injury, DiVincenzo averaged averaging five points on 45.5% shooting from the field in 14 minutes per contest through the first three games of the 2022-23 season.

Without DiVencenzo, the Warriors have leaned on players like Jordan Poole, Ty Jerome and Moses Moody.

After starting the trip 0-2, the Warriors have three games left on their road swing, with the next matchup coming tonight against the Miami Heat.

Injury Report: Donte DiVincenzo (hamstring) out vs. Suns, will be re-evaluated in a week

After suffering a hamstring injury against the Kings on Sunday, Donte DiVincenzo will miss Tuesday’s game against the Suns and will be re-evaluated in a week.

After three games, the Golden State Warriors suffered their first injury of the 2022-23 campaign. During the Warriors’ win over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night, Donte DiVincenzo endured a hamstring injury in the third quarter.

DiVincenzo has already been ruled out for Golden State’s contest on Tuesday against the Phoenix Suns. On Monday, Steve Kerr announced DiVincenzo would be re-evaluated in a week. The Warriors play the Suns, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons this week.

With DiVincenzo out, newly signed two-way player Ty Jerome will be activated for the Warriors.

DiVincenzo has played in all three of Golden State’s games during the start of the new season, averaging five points on 45.5% shooting from the field in 14 minutes per contest.

With DiVincenzo out and both rookies Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Ryan Rollins assigned to the G League, players like Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga and Jerome could receive a more significant opportunity in the second unit over the next week.

Donte DiVincenzo could’ve been a Boston Celtic last season

The Boston Celtics have made some big moves since the NBA trade deadline last year and Donte DiVincenzo was almost one of those guys to end up in the green and white. In-fact it was all but a done deal from reports and even DiVincenzo thought he was moving there.

The Boston Celtics have made some big moves since the NBA trade deadline last year, and Donte DiVincenzo was almost one of those guys to end up in the green and white, per the Athletics’Anthony Slater. In fact, it was all but a done deal.

“I thought I was going to Boston,” said DiVincenzo, a former Villanova standout. “I think I was supposed to go for Dennis Schröder to Boston. I don’t know what happened. Somebody might’ve wanted too much. But that was my impression, that I was going to Boston. The Sacramento (trade) came out of nowhere.”

The deal between the Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks fell apart at the last minute, and DiVincenzo ended up moving to the Sacramento Kings instead.

DiVincenzo struggled on his new team and ended up signing a short-term deal with the other NBA Finals team, the Golden State Warriors, this offseason.

It’s tempting to think of what might have been for Boston had it brought on DiVincenzo, but the trade that brought back big man Daniel Theis — and through it later on, Malcolm Brogdon — would not have happened quite the same if it all, so it’s quite possible this was a better outcome for all.

Warriors’ Donte DiVincenzo throws out first pitch at Giants vs. Dodgers game

New Warriors guard Donte DiVincenzo was welcomed to the Bay Area by throwing out the first pitch at the Giants game at Oracle Park in San Francisco.

One of the newest members of the Golden State Warriors was recently welcomed to the Bay Area on the baseball diamond.

Before the start of the San Francisco Giants‘ rivalry game with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Donte DiVincenzo toed the rubber at Oracle Park. Only blocks away from Chase Center, Golden State’s newly signed guard fired the ceremonial first pitch.

Via @warriors on Twitter:

DiVincenzo joins fellow new teammates Steph Curry and Jonathan Kuminga as members of the Warriors to throw out first pitches for either the Giants or Oakland Athletics over the summer.

After spending the first four seasons of his NBA career with the Milwaukee Bucks and Sacramento Kings, DiVincenzo signed a two-year deal with the Warriors in July. The former Villanova player has averaged 9 points on 41.5% shooting from the floor and 34.7% from beyond the arc with 4.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists over 201 games in his career.

Lakers thought about signing Donte DiVincenzo using MLE

The Lakers had some interest in signing former Milwaukee Bucks guard Donte DiVincenzo in free agency but ultimately decided against him.

The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t done a bad job in free agency so far this summer, but a couple of their signings have left something to be desired for some fans and observers.

Being over the salary cap, they only had the taxpayer mid-level exception and veteran’s minimum salary to offer any prospective free agents.

For the mid-level exception, L.A. signed Lonnie Walker IV, a young and athletic wing who was previously with the San Antonio Spurs. Walker is explosive in transition, but his 3-point shooting and defense are iffy.

According to Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers also considered Donte DiVincenzo at the same price point.

Via Los Angeles Times:

“Guard Donte DiVincenzo, who has only a slightly better career three-point percentage than Walker, was considered but eventually bypassed because of injury concerns. He signed with the Golden State Warriors for $4.5 million.”

Other than youth and athleticism, one of the Lakers’ biggest needs is accurate and reliable 3-point shooting, and DiVincenzo is more proven in that department than Walker.

In 2021, he shot 37.9 percent from downtown in the regular season for the world champion Milwaukee Bucks.

However, he has been injury-prone, as he has played in just 201 contests in his four NBA seasons. This past season, he appeared in just 42 contests.

He only played in three postseason contests in 2021 due to an ankle injury, and he had to sit and watch as Milwaukee won it all.

Report: Free agent Donte DiVincenzo signing two-year deal with Warriors

On the second day of free agency, the Golden State Warriors reportedly added a new piece to their backcourt.

After losing players like Juan Toscano-Anderson, Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. at the start of free agency, the Golden State Warriors got involved in the spending on Friday.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, free agent guard Donte DiVincenzo has agreed to a two-year deal with the Warriors on the second day of free agency. DiVencenzo’s contract with Golden State is for two years at $9.3 million with a player option in the second season, per Charania.

Via @ShamsCharania on Twitter;

After spending the first three seasons of his career with the Milwaukee Bucks, DiVincenzo was traded to the Sacramento Kings at the deadline in last season. Over 42 games with Sacramento and Milwaukee, DiVencenzo averaged 9.0 points on 35.1% shooting from the floor and 37.3% from beyond the arc with 4.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals in 24 minutes per contest.

The former No. 17 overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft gives the Warriors a versatile piece in the backcourt that has proven playoff experience. At 6-foot-4, DiVincenzo possesses a burst of athleticism paired with gritty defense the Warriors could use after losing Payton II to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Kings’ Donte DiVincenzo reportedly a free agency target for the Boston Celtics

The 25-year-old wing has struggled to stay healthy recently but could be a solid option for wing depth if he can stay on the floor.

The Boston Celtics reportedly have their sights on another young wing to use their $6.4 million mini- midlevel exception (MLE) on for the coming 2022-23 NBA season who last played for the Sacramento Kings, according to the Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy.

Per the Herald reporter, “Donte DiVincenzo, now a free agent after Sacramento decided not to extend a qualifying offer to the talented wing player, is stacking up as another Celtics target.” Wing scorers are evidently the focus for Boston in free agency, should reports that the team has also been interested in TJ Warren and Danilo Gallinari.

Traded to the Kings from the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a four-team trade at the 2022 trade deadline, the 6-foot-4 Villanova product has struggled with injury throughout his career, never playing in more than 66 games in a season and just 42 in 2021-22.

His shooting efficiency was notably poor overall last season as well, though he managed to shoot 36.8% from deep with Sacramento in his final 25 games of the season.

A solid defender with a 6-foot-6 wingspan, DiVincenzo would also help improve depth on that end of the court, though the key element moving forward to the Delaware native being worth the team’s MLE is of course how healthy he will be while on it.

Don’t forget: Donte DiVincenzo was already traded to the Kings once in a voided deal back in 2020

For the first deal on the day of the NBA trade deadline, the Milwaukee Bucks traded 25-year-old guard Donte DiVincenzo to the Sacramento Kings.

For the first deal on the day of the NBA trade deadline, the Milwaukee Bucks traded 25-year-old guard Donte DiVincenzo to the Sacramento Kings.

That deal doesn’t have too many massive basketball implications for the reigning champions except to confirm that Grayson Allen is a solid piece in their rotation. But it is particularly interesting because it’s not the first time the Bucks have agreed to trade DiVincenzo to the Kings.

Back in Nov. 2020, Milwaukee actually agreed to a sign-and-trade sending DiVincenzo (among other pieces) to Sacramento in exchange for free agent wing Bogdan Bogdanovic.

The trade was voided, however, after the league found the Bucks guilty of tampering to land Bogdanovic. After the investigation, Milwaukee was forced to forfeit the rights to their second-round pick in the upcoming 2022 NBA draft.

Bogdanovic went on to join the Hawks and DiVincenzo, despite the awkward scenario, actually stayed with the Bucks.

The former Villanova standout even started all 66 games that he played for Milwaukee in 2021-22. However, he suffered a severe left ankle injury and only played three postseason games in Milwaukee’s pursuit of the title.

Upon his return this season, DiVincenzo lost his spot in the first unit. The majority of his counting stats are significantly lower than they have been since his first season in the league.

However, based on today’s trade, it is clear that Sacramento’s front office never lost interest in the two-time collegiate national champion.

The Kings, after trading Tyrese Haliburton to the Indiana Pacers, will have plenty of opportunities for DiVincenzo to recoup some of the value he had lost thus far this season before he enters restricted free agent this offseason.

Now in the Western Conference, he will have a chance to show Sacramento’s front office exactly what they liked about him when they tried to acquire him back in Nov. 2020.

Report: Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks ‘keeping in touch’ on a Dennis Schroder – Donte DiVincenzo swap

Can the two parties strike a deal?

The Boston Celtics might just end up with the Big Ragu on their roster by the time the dust settles on the 2022 NBA trade deadline. According to Celtics Blog’s Keith Smith, the Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks “are still keeping in touch regarding a Dennis Schroder – Donte DiVincenzo swap” because “Milwaukee is a little worried about (point guard) depth with George Hill currently out.”

Still, Boston “won’t add players or picks to Schroder,” which is presumably the primary obstacle to getting DiVincenzo into a Celtics uniform. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard is a little bit of a downgrade in terms of scoring ability and also on a one-year contract, but Boston would get his Bird Rights and a player closer to the age curve of their primary core at 25 years old.

One way or another, the front office has until 3 pm ET today, Thursday Feb. 10 to start the call for any deals they want to make, so it won’t be long until this saga has a resolution of some sort.

Players who didn’t extend and are headed to restricted free agency

Here’s a look at those players that will be headed to restricted free agency in 2022 after the rookie-scale extension deadline passed.

The rookie-scale extension deadline has passed with a flurry of extensions for the 2018 draft class. Eleven players were extended, including four players signing maximum extensions. These extensions combine for a total of $1.146 billion in guaranteed money.

Twelve players on rookie-scale contracts that were extension-eligible did not extend and it will be interesting to see how the 2022 free agent market shakes out for them. There are now only 4 teams that can generate significant cap space next offseason, which explains why so many players extended now. Here’s a look at those players that will be headed to restricted free agency in 2022.
