Cardinals elevate CB to play vs. Jets in Week 10

For the second time in three weeks, Wilson gets elevated to the active roster.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a single roster move on Saturday to get ready for their Week 10 home game against the New York Jets. They elevated cornerback Divaad Wilson from the practice squad to the active roster.

Wilson was elevated once two weeks ago and played special teams in Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins.

The Cardinals cut defensive back Darren Hall this week when they acquired linebacker Baron Browning in a trade with the Denver Broncos. Hall played regularly on special teams.

It gives the Cardinals six cornerbacks to work with on Sunday.

Safety Jalen Thompson is questionable to play with an ankle injury, but with no move to add a safety, Thompson seems likely to be able to play.

The Cardinals and Jets kick off Sunday afternoon at 4:25 p.m. ET or 2:25 p.m. Arizona time.

Cardinals have many late-season additions signed for 2024

The Cardinals made sure many of their in-season and late-season additions were signed through 2024.

The Arizona Cardinals went through a lot of different players on the roster in 2023. They made some late-season acquisitions with waiver claims, free agent signings and even signings from off their own practice squad.

In many cases, the Cardinals kept a slightly longer-term perspective. Many of these players were signed through 2024 rather than for just the remainder of the 2023 season.

It appears to be a smart move, giving the players some offseason stability and allowing the Cardinals to have players with a bit of a head start on what they will do next season.

These are the late-season additions to the roster who are signed through this next season.

6 players cut by the Jaguars least likely to clear waivers

The Jaguars waived 27 players Tuesday. Which of those players are likely to get scooped up by another team off the waiver wire?

The Jacksonville Jaguars waived 27 players Tuesday in their effort to trim the roster from 90 players to 53.

While the team would love to have its pick of those players when it constructs its practice squad, the Jaguars’ may not be so lucky. There’s a strong chance a handful of the team’s former players won’t be available after hitting the waiver wire.

Jacksonville will only have the chance to sign players to its practice squad after every other team has decided not to put in a waiver claim. For these six players, there’s a strong chance that won’t happen:

Jaguars undrafted rookie CB Divaad Wilson confident he’ll make roster

Jaguars undrafted rookie CB Divaad Wilson doesn’t care if he’s overlooked, he says he’s going to “make the roster, regardless.”

The Jacksonville Jaguars picked five defensive backs in the back half of the last two NFL drafts to set up a deep competition for the final spots in the secondary. Former UCF cornerback Divaad Wilson wasn’t one of those players who heard his name called in the draft.

Still, Wilson is pretty sure he’ll find his way on to the Jaguars’ roster anyway.

“Honestly, I’m just overlooked. I’m gonna make the roster, regardless,” Wilson said Tuesday in an interview with News4Jax. “I’m not really necessarily worried about … I know my skillset, what God blessed me with is gonna overtake anything.”

Jacksonville seemingly has four locks for the 53-man roster in Tyson Campbell, Darious Williams, Tre Herndon III, and fast rising Gregory Junior. The last spot or two is up for grabs with Christian Braswell, Montaric “Buster” Brown, Chris Claybrooks, Tevaughn Campbell, Erick Hallett II, and Wilson all in the mix.

“Divaad is a guy that can possibility get in there,” Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell said two weeks ago when asked which cornerbacks have stood out. “Big personality guy, and as a corner, you like that. He’s a guy that is confident, he goes out there and his challenges people. He has a skillset, he can peddle, he can get out of breaks, and do different things.”

Wilson began his collegiate career at Georgia, where he was briefly teammates with Tyson Campbell, before transferring to UCF. At his pro day, Wilson’s 40-yard dash was timed at 4.46 seconds.

While Wilson is confident he’ll earn a spot on the roster, beating out players like Braswell and Brown might be unlikely. Landing on the Jaguars’ practice squad may be a more realistic path for the undrafted rookie.

Jaguars 2023 roster review: CB Divaad Wilson

Former Georgia and UCF defensive back Divaad Wilson is one of several young newcomers battling for a spot in the Jaguars secondary.

The brunt of the offseason is in the books and training camp is still off on the horizon. Join us in the NFL’s dead zone with a player-by-player review of the Jaguars roster ahead of the 2023 season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t do much of anything to address the cornerback position during the offseason. Despite cutting ties with Shaquill Griffin to save cap space, the only additions at the position were late-round draft picks and undrafted free agents.

Divaad Wilson is one of those newcomers with hopes of earning a spot on a roster that could use a surprise contributor at cornerback.

Wilson began his collegiate career in the Georgia Bulldogs secondary before transferring to Central Florida where he became a leader in the Knights secondary. In Jacksonville, he’ll battle several young players for a permanent spot in the Jaguars secondary.

Contract (2023): $750,000 base salary, $2,500 prorated signing bonus, $752,500 cap hit.

Acquired: Jaguars signed Wilson as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2023.

Jaguars announce 10 undrafted free agent additions

The Jaguars’ list of 10 undrafted signings includes three receivers, two players named Jackson, and two players from UCF.

Update: After announcing Eastern Kentucky linebacker Matthew Jackson as one of their signings, the Jaguars have since removed him from the list. He is reportedly set to join the Tennessee Titans instead.

The Jacksonville Jaguars added 13 players during the 2023 NFL draft and rounded out the roster with 10 more rookies signed in undrafted free agency.

The list, which was mostly reported immediately after the draft ended Saturday, includes three wide receivers, three linebackers, two players named Jackson, and two from UCF:

  • Jayson Ademilola, DT, Notre Dame — 6’3, 285
  • D.J. Coleman, OLB, Missouri — 6’5, 263
  • Elijah Cooks, WR, San Jose State — 6’4, 215
  • Kaleb Hayes, CB, BYU — 6’0, 195
  • Dequan Jackson, LB, Colorado State — 6’1, 225
  • Samuel Jackson, OL, UCF — 6’6, 325
  • Jaray Jenkins, WR, LSU — 6’2, 200
  • Oliver Martin, WR, Nebraska — 6’1, 200
  • Leonard Taylor, TE, Cincinnati — 6’5, 255
  • Divaad Wilson, CB, UCF — 6’0, 195

To make room for the 10 additions, the Jaguars released safety Tyree Gillespie and offensive lineman Jimmy Murray. Gillespie was on the field for 28 special teams snaps with the Jaguars during the 2022 season. Murray spent the year on the practice squad.

Georgia CB Divaad Wilson picks transfer destination

Georgia Bulldogs cornerback Divaad Wilson will be transferring to UCF over Florida, Miami, and more.

Georgia Bulldogs cornerback Divaad Wilson is currently in the NCAA’s transfer portal and will be transferring to the University of Central Florida. Wilson was expected to compete for the starting nickel role at Georgia, but now he’s headed to Orlando, Florida.

Wilson is talented, as he displayed with a key interception against Notre Dame last year, and should boost the UCF Knights secondary. It’s anybody’s guess if he’ll be ruled immediately eligible.

Wilson is from Miami, Florida and wanted to be closer to home. Best of luck to Wilson at UCF. He’ll be missed in Athens, but the loss isn’t devastating to Georgia’s secondary for this season, which is absolutely loaded. His transfer certainty thins future depth for the Bulldogs.

Divaad Wilson also considered transferring to Miami, Florida, Florida State and more. Wilson will be fun to watch moving forward at UCF.

Wilson should be immediately eligible since he wants to be closer to home, but the NCAA is not consistent on transfer eligibility rulings. We’ll update fans on his eligibility status as soon as we hear about it.

Divaad Wilson announced his transfer to UCF via his Twitter account:

Wilson is from Miami, Florida, so don’t be surprised if he ends up close to home. In fact, Wilson doesn’t want to leave his home state as he indicated via Twitter:

Which school in Florida will Divaad Wilson transfer to? Miami, FSU, Florida, and UCF are the most respected in-state programs. We’ll keep you updated on Wilson’s transfer destination and his eligibility.

If Wilson transfers to Florida, then it’ll be the second consecutive offseason that a Georgia Bulldog has transferred to the University of Florida. Brenton Cox transferred to the Gators last season and will be eligible in 2020.

Georgia DB Divaad Wilson enters NCAA transfer portal

Georgia football DB Divaad Wilson enters the NCAA transfer portal in order to be closer to home.

Redshirt sophomore Georgia cornerback Divaad Wilson has announced that he will be entering the NCAA transfer portal on Monday.  Wilson explained via Twitter that his decision was made solely to be closer to home during these uncertain times due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Wilson appeared in eleven games for the Dawgs last season, totaling 24 tackles, one interception and one pass deflection.

His decision should be seen as a respectable one to Georgia fans, as family always comes first.  Wilson is from Miami, Florida and will likely browse schools in that area.

We wish Divaad all the best on the next chapter of his football career and thank him for everything he gave to the Bulldog community.  Once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog.
