Former Alabama running back T.J. Yeldon was tested positive for COVID, according to the Buffalo Bills PR team. He will not travel with the team for their Week 16 contest on the road for a prime time game against the New England Patriots.

Yeldon, who won two SEC Championships and a BCS National Championship while with the Crimson Tide, has had a difficult time finding his stride within the NFL.

He was a second round draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015, but struggled to earn a lead role as there always seemed to be players sitting above him on the depth chart.

Now, in year No. 2 with the Bills, Yeldon has still not seen much time on the field. He has appeared in three games and carried the ball 10 times for 70 yards.

There’s no official word on how Yeldon contracted the virus, or how it might have affected the rest of the playoff-bound Bills.

Roll Tide Wire will keep you updated on Yeldon’s health as more information becomes available.

Who is the most-likely Bills player to catch record-breaking 14th TD?

Who could be the player to catch a record-breaking 14th touchdown for Buffalo Bills.

Not only did the Buffalo Bills reclaim the AFC East title against the Denver Broncos on Saturday, they tied an interesting NFL record which they now have two games to break.

In very surprising fashion, wide receiver Jake Kumerow caught a touchdown pass from Josh Allen in that 48-19 Week 15 blowout. He became the 13th player on the Bills to catch a touchdown pass this season, which ties the league’s record.

In total, seven other teams have done that in a single-season, those include: the Bucs (2003), Falcons (2016), Colts (2018), Dolphins (2018), Saints (2018), Titans (2019) and 49ers (2019).

Along with Kumerow and… actually, Allen himself, here are the other players on the Bills to catch a touchdown pass in 2020:

  • WR Gabriel Davis (6)
  • WR Stefon Diggs (5)
  • WR Cole Beasley (4)
  • WR Isaiah McKenzie (3)
  • TE Dawson Knox (3)
  • TE Tyler Kroft (3)
  • WR John Brown (2)
  • TE/ FB Reggie Gilliam (1)
  • QB Josh Allen (1)
  • WR Jake Kumerow (1)
  • RB Zack Moss (1)
  • TE Lee Smith (1)
  • RB TJ Yeldon (1)

Now it begs the question, who could be No. 14?

The top candidate based on playing time and experience has to be running back Devin Singletary. Just last week against the Broncos, Singletary did score, but it was a rushing touchdown, not a reception. As a rookie, Singletary was no stranger to such scores, though. He caught two touchdown passes in 2019.

And speaking of catching two touchdowns, how about Dion Dawkins? In his career, the left tackle has checked into games as a receiver and caught passes two times, both in the end zone. Those occurred in 2018 and 2019.

In the same light as Dawkins, a name to keep in mind is Ryan Bates. On Buffalo’s goal line packages this year, Bates often checks in as an additional receiver on plays as Dawkins has. In most cases, a defense ignores this because the lineman’s duties are to block, not to actually be a receiver… but as Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has displayed in recent years, he isn’t scared to toss balls toward the big boys.

Behind Singletary and Dawkins, the No. 3 candidate is likely Andre Roberts. Almost all of his job is that of being a kick returner, however, he does occasionally see a few snaps in games on offense for the Bills. Roberts only had one game in 2020 with an extended run on offense though, Week 5 against the Titans. Furthermore, since Week 5, Roberts has played a grand total of two snaps on offense.

In all likelihood, assuming the Bills stay completely healthy, only Singletary has a realistic look at becoming No. 14. Other very distant names include special teamer/ running back Taiwan Jones, who has only taken a handful of snaps on offense for the Bills this year, and even further down the list, wide receiver Duke Williams. While having scored in 2019, Williams has spent the entire season on Buffalo’s practice squad as of now. Perhaps if Buffalo has nothing to play for in Week 17, he could be called up and get some playing time.

PODCAST: Bills win AFC East vs. Broncos, how far can they go?

Buffalo Bills podcast following Week 15 win vs. Denver Broncos.

Following a decisive second-half performance and victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 14, the Bills were a win away from their first AFC East crown in 25 years.

That is, until Saturday.

In an impressive 48-19 victory against the Denver Broncos, the Bills (11-3) clinched both their first division crown since 1995 as well as a trip to the playoffs.

The with the big day on the scoreboard, the team reached 400 points on the season for the first time since 1998. Buffalo scored early and often, including a touchdown throw from Josh Allen to Jake Kumerow, which tied an NFL record as he was the 13th Bill this season to catch a TD pass. The team added points on both sides of the ball too, when a second-half a sack by Tre’Davious White caused a fumble that was recovered by Jerry Hughes, who then juked defenders for a 21-yard touchdown only 17 seconds after the offense had scored one as well.

The Bills then pulled away in the third quarter, adding 13 more points that included a pair of Tyler Bass field goals and a 51-yard single-play touchdown drive from Devin Singletary to boot.

Bills vs. Steelers: 8 things to watch for and a prediction

Things to watch in Week 14 Buffalo Bills vs. Pittsburgh Steelers.

A big AFC playoff contest in en route in the NFL this weekend and the Buffalo Bills are involved in it.

The Bills (9-3) will host the AFC North leaders, the Pittsburgh Steelers (11-1), in Week 14. These two teams are not directly battling for playoff spots. However, seeding importance is huge here.

With four games left, if the Bills plan to move up in the conference, they have to beat the Steelers on Sunday Night Football.

With that, here are eight things to watch for and a prediction ahead of Week 14’s Bills-Steelers meeting:

Report card: Grading every Bills position after third quarter of season

Buffalo Bills report card following the third quarter of the 2020 NFL season.

We’re rounding the final turn of the Buffalo Bills’ 2020 regular season. At 9-3, the Bills are still in the pole position in terms of grabbing a playoff berth from the AFC East.

However, the work is far from done. While the team itself will be looking forward to their final four games, let’s take a look back before we do the same.

Here’s Bills Wire’s third-quarter report card heading into the final stretch:

Report card: Bills top 49ers, 34-24

Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers report card for Week 13.

The Bills escaped the desert in Arizona in a much nicer fashion on Monday Night Football this time around.

Buffalo (9-3) topped the San Francisco 49ers (5-7), 34-24, in Week 13. It was a consistent effort all over the field for the Bills en route to the victory.

Following their latest win, here’s how Bills Wire graded out the Bills:

5 takeaways from the Bills’ 34-24 win over the 49ers

Takeaways from the Bills’ Week 13 win over the 49ers.

The Buffalo Bills left the national stage and made their prior game in Arizona a thing of the past. With the lights of Monday Night Football upon them, the Bills topped the San Francisco 49ers, 34-24.

Buffalo (9-3) didn’t quite cruise, but after a whacky start which included a few goal-line stops for both teams, the 49ers (5-7) took a brief lead early. From there, it was mostly all Bills.

With that, here are five takeaways from the Bills’ win over the 49ers in Week 13:

Allen shines on primetime again

It’s hard to argue that the Bills have a quarterback who doesn’t love when the lights are shining the brightest. Good news too, the Bills are in the midst of a couple games in a row under the circumstances of primetime football.

But even going back to last season, think about Thanksgiving, or late-heroics on Sunday Night Football against the Steelers. Bills quarterback Josh Allen loves these pressure-packed games because he usually plays pretty well in them and that was the case against the 49ers.

In the first half, Allen kept grabbing big chunks of yards, almost all of which came in the air. Allen had completions of 12, 35, 12, 13, 20, 18 and 28, just to name a few. What these completions did was kept the Bills offense on the field a lot more than their defense, that’s for sure.

Buffalo had a double-digit number of plays four times in this one, and even when the Bills went three-and-out, the offense settled for a field goal. This helped the Bills own time of possession against the Niners, 34:58 to 25:02. Hard for opposing teams to do much if they don’t have the ball, and Allen playing well puts even more pressure on them to do so.

In total, Allen, a week after only having 157 passing yards, went 32-for-40 passing for 375 yards passing with four total touchdowns. All of those went to different playmakers, too.

Have a night, Josh.

Bills at 49ers: 5 things to watch for and a prediction

Things to watch for in Week 13 plus a prediction against the San Francisco 49ers for the BIlls.

The Buffalo Bills will travel back to the scene of the crime on Monday as the San Francisco 49ers await.

Last weekend, the 49ers (5-6) won on a last-second play, which actually will make this one a bit more fun, won’t it? The Bills (8-3) also continued their march toward their first AFC East title since 1995. Huge and obvious playoff implications for both sides here.

Plus, the primetime lights on Monday Night Football will be shining bright.

With that, here are five things to watch for and a prediction ahead of Week 13’s Bills-49ers meeting:

8 storylines to watch for during Bills vs. 49ers

Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers storylines for Week 13 on Monday Night Football.

It’s Wednesday so the Buffalo Bills are now turning their attention to their next opponent. After a post-bye week win against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Bills will head to another team’s home away from home where the San Francisco 49ers (5-6) await them.

With that, here are eight storylines to follow as the Bills are set to face the Niners in Week 13:

PODCAST: Is the Bills defense back after Chargers performance?

Buffalo Bills defense back after Week 12 win vs. Chargers? Podcast.

Another week, and another W for the Buffalo Bills, as they defeated a rebuilding Chargers team on Sunday, 27-17. While it wasn’t the prettiest victory, the game was a lot closer than the score would tell you. It was a gritty win for the fresh Bills (8-3) coming off their bye.

Buffalo has it’s strongest defensive performance of the year, holding the Chargers (3-8) run game to 76 yards, which is significant with all factors considered. The return of running back Austin Ekeler wasn’t enough for the Bolts. The Bills defense hasn’t had too many games as good as this one.

Offensively, the Bills showed that it could move the ball effectively, with or without John Brown. Rookie wideout Gabriel Davis stepped up, hauling in a touchdown reception from Cole Beasley, and leading in receiving yards on the team for the first time this season. Davis’ future appears bright, and it’s another testament to how deep this roster is that Brandon Beane has created.

The Bills play the 49ers (5-6) on the road next week, although the location is uncertain at this point. San Francisco will be the team without a home going forward in 2020, and the Bills can’t underestimate this depleted, yet passionate football team.
