The Buffalo Bills left the national stage and made their prior game in Arizona a thing of the past. With the lights of Monday Night Football upon them, the Bills topped the San Francisco 49ers, 34-24.
Buffalo (9-3) didn’t quite cruise, but after a whacky start which included a few goal-line stops for both teams, the 49ers (5-7) took a brief lead early. From there, it was mostly all Bills.
With that, here are five takeaways from the Bills’ win over the 49ers in Week 13:
Allen shines on primetime again
It’s hard to argue that the Bills have a quarterback who doesn’t love when the lights are shining the brightest. Good news too, the Bills are in the midst of a couple games in a row under the circumstances of primetime football.
But even going back to last season, think about Thanksgiving, or late-heroics on Sunday Night Football against the Steelers. Bills quarterback Josh Allen loves these pressure-packed games because he usually plays pretty well in them and that was the case against the 49ers.
In the first half, Allen kept grabbing big chunks of yards, almost all of which came in the air. Allen had completions of 12, 35, 12, 13, 20, 18 and 28, just to name a few. What these completions did was kept the Bills offense on the field a lot more than their defense, that’s for sure.
Buffalo had a double-digit number of plays four times in this one, and even when the Bills went three-and-out, the offense settled for a field goal. This helped the Bills own time of possession against the Niners, 34:58 to 25:02. Hard for opposing teams to do much if they don’t have the ball, and Allen playing well puts even more pressure on them to do so.
In total, Allen, a week after only having 157 passing yards, went 32-for-40 passing for 375 yards passing with four total touchdowns. All of those went to different playmakers, too.
