Texas A&M takes a hit with decommitment from 5-star LB Anthony Hill

According to Hayes Fawcett at on3, Hill now plans to take his recruitment all the way to signing day.

Ryan (Texas) five-star linebacker Anthony Hill committed to playing for Texas A&M at the end of July. Today, he backed out of that commitment. In a statement, Hill thanked the school and the coaching staff.

According to Hayes Fawcett at on3, Hill now plans to take his recruitment all the way to signing day.

Hill (6-foot-2, 225 pounds) is the consensus best linebacker in the class of 2023 and ranks No. 17 in the country according to 247 Sports.

The news was a blow for Jimbo Fisher’s 2023 recruiting class. Their score dropped to 212.88, which ranks No. 23 in the cycle. The Aggies were in the top 10 not too long ago.

Hill still has 33 offers on the table, including ones from Alabama, Miami, Oklahoma and USC – which were his other reported finalists. However, Nick Harris at Rivals reports that Texas is now trending for Hill’s commitment. He is visiting Austin for this weekend’s game against Auburn.

Despite struggles, ESPN sees Oklahoma as a bowl team in latest projections

Even during their worst stretch of play in years, ESPN has Oklahoma bowling in their latest postseason projections.

Oklahoma’s struggled mightily over the last three weeks. It doesn’t feel like it can get much worse after being shut out in their most anticipated game of the season against their rivals, the Texas Longhorns.

Some key pieces are hurt right now, and with their return, we should see a slightly better product than what we are witnessing right now. Any hope for a Big 12 title went out the window on Saturday afternoon in Dallas. Instead, the Sooners will look to improve, regain some sense of pride, and try to resemble a traditional Oklahoma Sooners football team for the remaining part of the season.

If they can do that, they’ll be playing in a bowl game. And for a team with no championship to play for, that’s the next best thing.

ESPN has taken the liberty every Monday during the college football season to update their bowl projections (ESPN+) as we gather new information and insights about each team.

Even with three consecutive losses, the pundits at ESPN still believes Oklahoma will figure things out and become bowl eligible.

Kyle Bonagura projects Oklahoma to play in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl against the Memphis Tigers of the American Athletic Conference.

Memphis touts an explosive offense led by Seth Henigan, a former high school teammate of current Sooner Billy Bowman.

Mark Schlabach sees Oklahoma taking on Oregon State of the Pac-12. in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. Oregon State is a sneaky tough opponent that plays solid defense and leans on the run game to wear teams down. A date with them would make it back-to-back years the Sooners faced off against a Pac-12 team in a bowl game. Last year, they ended their season with a Valero Alamo Bowl win against Oregon.

Oklahoma has a long way to go before playing in a bowl becomes a reality. Their focus right now should be getting healthy and playing competitive football. They have a tough test ahead of them with the Kansas Jayhawks coming to town.

Oklahoma Sooners land commitment from 2023 4-star RB Kalib Hicks

The Oklahoma Sooners picked up another 2023 commitment, this time from four-star running back Kalib Hicks out of Denton Ryan.

The ball is rolling for the Oklahoma Sooners with the 2023 recruiting class. They’ve recently picked up commitments from Keyon Brown and Kade McIntyre and have added another with four-star running back, Kalib Hicks.

Coming out of Denton Ryan, Hicks is currently the only running back committed to the 2023 class. He joins three-star center Joshua Bates, five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold, and four-star wide receiver Keyon Brown on the offensive side of the ball as Jeff Lebby looks to put his stamp on the recruiting class.

In 2021, Hicks rushed for 1,448 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 6.7 yards per carry for state champion Denton Ryan. In 2020, he carried the ball 119 times for 851 yards and seven touchdowns for an average of 7.15 yards per carry.

According to the 247Sports Composite rating, Hicks is the No. 24 running back in the country and the No. 63 player in the state of Texas. On3 has him as the No. 69 player in Texas and the No. 29 running back.

His recruitment with the Sooners was a quick one. The Sooners offered a scholarship back in May and Hicks took an official visit on June 11. Just a few days later, he was committed to the Sooners.

Denton Ryan CB Austin Jordan commits to Texas over Oklahoma, Ohio State

Denton Ryan CB Austin Jordan chooses Texas over Oklahoma, Ohio State

It isn’t all sunshine and daffodils for the Oklahoma Sooners on the recruiting trail. Lincoln Riley and Alex Grinch didn’t receive the news they wanted when 2022 four-star cornerback Austin Jordan chose to commit to the Texas Longhorns over the Sooners and Ohio State.

Jordan played in the Denton Ryan secondary along with 2021 Oklahoma signee Billy Bowman. Instead of joining Bowman in Norman, the top 10 cornerback chose to play with his other high school teammate Ja’Tavion Sanders who signed with the Longhorns.

The No. 10 rated safety in the 2022 class is projected at cornerback for the Longhorns. The Sooners now will turn their focus to other cornerback targets at this point after Jordan announced his intention to play in Texas.

The Sooners are still looking at top athlete Gentry Williams, who is currently projected to pick Oklahoma with USC quickly gaining ground on the Tulsa, Oklahoma product.

Another name to consider at cornerback would be Lorenzell Dubose of Louisiana. He is a three-star composite and a top 50 cornerback of his class. Oklahoma has recently added Robert Spears-Jennings and Jayden Rowe already at the position in the 2022 class.

Denton Ryan product, five-star edge Anthony Hill releases summer visit schedule

On Wednesday, Anthony Hill announced where he would be making unofficial visits this summer. The five-star will be in Austin on June 12.

Denton Ryan has been home to some dominant defensive players over the past few years.

Five-star Ja’Tavion Sanders and four-star Billy Bowman (both 2021 class) ended up at Texas and Oklahoma respectively. Bear Alexander (2022 class) played for the Raiders last season before moving to Fort Worth Brewster for his senior season.

Next up is linebacker Anthony Hill. The five-star prospect was one of the most dominant players in 5A last season despite just being a sophomore. He finished with 105 tackles, 11 of which were for a loss, and three sacks.

Hill’s 6-foot-2, 225-pound frame at such a young age could even see him develop into an edge rusher in college. As to which program will have the opportunity to use his talents is yet to be seen.

Thirty offers have been sent out to the five-star but the list is quickly shrinking. On Wednesday, Hill announced where he would be making unofficial visits this summer.

Gary Patterson and TCU hosted the five-star on June 6, while Pete Kwiatkowski will get his shot on June 12. Hill is in a group of elite-level juniors in Austin this weekend, headlined by him, Arch Manning, and Rueben Owens. Hill will travel to in-state rivals Texas A&M five days later.

Of course, Alabama is the only out-of-state school to get a visit so far. Nick Saban was able to lock down another five-star linebacker from Denton Ryan in Drew Sanders. The Crimson Tide is not afraid of stealing top talent from Texas.

With how many juniors are expected on campus on Friday, Hill could prove to be one of the most important. Whether the five-star ends up on the edge or sticking with inside linebacker, there will be a need for Kwiatkowski come the 2023 season.

2022 five-star defensive tackle Bear Alexander sets commitment date

Five-star defensive tackle and Sooners 2022 target Bear Alexander will commit on Feb. 3. National Signing Day won’t be the only news.

National Signing Day is approaching on Feb. 3, and the Oklahoma Sooners will look to close out their 2021 recruiting cycle. The class sits at No. 10 in the 247Sports composite team rankings. That isn’t the only newsworthy item on the day. Five-star defensive tackle from Denton-Ryan, Bear Alexander has announced that he will make his commitment on this day as well.

Alexander was part of the defense that helped lead the Raiders to the Texas 5A Division 1 state championship. He played alongside Oklahoma Sooners signee Billy Bowman. Provided that Alexander makes his pledge to the Sooners, Alex Grinch, and Lincoln Riley, he will be the first defensive lineman to commit to the 2022 class.

Oklahoma currently has four commits with three wide receivers and one inside linebacker for the class in the early going. Alexander would have the fourth-highest grade among the current group of commits.
