Defensive keys to beating the Georgia Bulldogs

It’s gonna be tough, but here are four ways the Tigers can upset the Bulldogs in Athens:

Wrestling great Ric Flair couldn’t have put it any better — to be the man, you have to beat the man. This Saturday, the Auburn Tigers are set to meet the “man” away from home for one of college football’s oldest showdowns.

Sure, Georgia isn’t number one in the nation (Alabama is), but the Bulldogs are the defending national champions who, notably, have defeated Auburn eight of the last nine times the two have played. It’s going to be very tough for the Tigers to pull it off, but as longtime fans would tell you, anything is possible in a series like this,

Check out these four defensive keys that can prevent turning the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry into the Deep South’s Newest Blowout down below:

Auburn’s defensive keys to beating LSU

Here’s how Auburn can best the SEC’s other Tigers team on Saturday:

It’s about that time of the week again.

After far too close of a shave with Missouri last week, the Tigers play yet another home game against the SEC’s third Tigers team in LSU. LSU had a rough start to the year when it failed to defeat Florida State, but it’s been rolling since then — the Bayou Bengals have won their last three matchups and scored at least 30 points in all of them, so it may be a tough ask to slow them down.

Fear not, though. Should Auburn follow these four defensive keys, it’ll walk out of Jordan-Hare on Saturday with a home victory:

We’re still waiting for an Auburn turnover.

Auburn had a performance to forget on defense last weekend against Penn State, but its about to face an opponent that can get them back on track.

The Missouri Tigers aren’t exactly an offensive powerhouse, so there’s plenty of opportunity for Auburn to get back on track defensively and right its (many) wrongs. There weren’t really any positives from the team’s blowout last week, though, so there’s a lot of work to do if the team definitively wants to beat Mizzou.

Here are four defensive keys Auburn should look to follow if it wants to get a win in Jordan-Hare on Saturday:

Here’s how Auburn’s defense can defend Jordan-Hare on Saturday:

Auburn has started the season 2-0, but it faces its first real test this weekend.

The Tigers will defend the Plains against the No. 22 Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday while also hoping to avenge its loss to them last year in Pennsylvania. After scraping by San Jose State, Auburn can make a statement by defeating a ranked team on its home turf, but it’s going to take a great defensive performance to slow down the weapons that Penn State will bring to the field come game day.

With that in mind, here are four defensive keys to defeating the Nittany Lions and showing the nation that the Tigers aren’t pretenders:

Joseph Ossai leads defensive keys for Longhorns against Kansas State

These three defensive players will be paramount for the Texas Longhorns to leave Manhattan with a victory on Saturday.

After opening Big 12 Conference play with a 4-0 record, the Kansas State Wildcats have now lost four in a row. In their season finale on senior day they look to get back on the winning side and end the year on a high note. The Texas Longhorns defense under Chris Ash looks to continue their upward trajectory.

Against Iowa State, the defense was able to limit the big plays from Breece Hall and the offense for most of the game. When they needed to make a play the offense was able to drive the field after the offense failed to keep the ball from the Cyclones. Another effort from the defense like that and the Longhorns should be in a much better position with Kansas State.

The Wildcats offense does have a few players to key on, led by freshman running back Deuce Vaughn. Can the Longhorns defense force fellow freshman quarterback Will Howard into a few mistakes in the game?

Texas Longhorns vs. Iowa State: Three key defensive players

Three defensive key players for the Texas Longhorns on Saturday

For the Texas Longhorns to stay on track to challenge for a Big 12 Championship, they will need these defenders to guide them Saturday.

A week ago in a hostile environment, the Longhorns defense rose to the occasion. They faced one of the top teams in the country with a three-headed monster on the offensive side of the ball. Chuba Hubbard, Spencer Sanders and Tylan Wallace were ready for their biggest challenge on the year with Texas coming to town. It didn’t go their way.

Wallace was able to do what he wanted against the Longhorns secondary, every one of his 11 catches went for either a first down or touchdown. Texas and Chris Ash didn’t provide much help on the backend as they focused on slowing down Hubbard and the rushing attack. It worked as they allowed only 2.5 yards per rushing attempt with zero rushing touchdowns.

They need to be geared up for this game against West Virginia and Leddie Brown. He is another Big 12 running back that can fill out a stat sheet. Last week against Kansas State they rushed for over 200 yards between their two explosive backs. If the Longhorns are able to slow them down, it will likely be due to three players on defense as the keys.

Texas Longhorns vs TCU Horned Frogs: Three defensive keys

The Longhorns’ defense will need to improve after giving up 56 points against Texas Tech. Here are three defensive keys for UT on Saturday:

Texas will be playing its second home game of the season on Saturday afternoon, hosting TCU. The Horned Frogs played their first game of the season against Iowa State and are 0-1 for the first time since 2013.

Against Texas Tech, the Longhorns had a rough day defensively, giving up 56 points to the Red Raiders. Matt Well’s offense had success both in the air and on the ground all day. With TCU in town, Chris Ash’s defense will need to improve.

If a Gary Patterson offense can score 56 points, his defense is going to be sitting in a comfortable position. The Longhorns will need to match the Horned Frogs’ defensive performance to secure their second Big 12 win of the season.
