Texas Longhorns vs TCU Horned Frogs: Three defensive keys

The Longhorns’ defense will need to improve after giving up 56 points against Texas Tech. Here are three defensive keys for UT on Saturday:

Limiting Max Duggan

In last season’s matchup against Texas, quarterback Max Duggan had a career day, finishing 19 of 27 with 273 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Pulling out an upset win over the Longhorns, it was easily the true freshman’s best performance of the season.

After dealing with heart problems and not starting TCU’s opener against Iowa State, Duggan came into the game in the second half and almost pulled off a comeback win. He finished with just as many touchdowns as he did incompletions in just under two-quarters of play. Duggan seems as if he has taken the next step as a sophomore.

Duggan is the presumed starter over Georgia transfer Matthew Downing. With prior success against Texas, Duggan will have no fear when coming into Austin. Chris Ash’s defense will need to limit his effectiveness, mainly by rushing the passer.
