Texas Longhorns vs TCU Horned Frogs: Three defensive keys

The Longhorns’ defense will need to improve after giving up 56 points against Texas Tech. Here are three defensive keys for UT on Saturday:

It sounds simple and almost cliche that teams will need to get to the quarterback in order to win games. However, Texas has struggled with rushing the passer dating back to the beginning of last season.

Against UTEP and Texas Tech, two sacks have been recorded, both against the Miners. True freshman Alfred Collins and Marcus Tillman Jr. both got one in garbage time. JACK Joseph Ossai and Marcu Ojmo have not been effective on the outside parts to the defensive line.

Against Iowa State, the Horned Frogs offensive line surrendered six sacks, 3.5 of which were to JaQuan Bailey. Chris Ash will need to dial some things up in order to get to Duggan. Whether is it blitzes, stunts, or isolating players such as Ossai into one-on-one matchups, rushing the passer will be huge for Texas.
