Sixers 2022-23 projected depth chart with PJ Tucker, Danuel House Jr.

Here is the projected depth chart for the 2022-23 Philadelphia 76ers after the additions of PJ Tucker and Danuel House Jr.

The last time the Philadelphia 76ers were seen, they were exiting the Eastern Conference semifinals for the fourth time in five seasons after a loss to the Miami Heat in Game 6 at home.

After the defeat, the Sixers went to work rather quickly in the offseason as they made a trade on draft night to acquire De’Anthony Melton and then they brought in PJ Tucker and Danuel House Jr. in free agency. They also signed Trevelin Queen, but Tucker and House Jr. are expected to make a bigger impact at the moment.

While there still could be some moves on the way, at the moment, the Sixers are a good basketball team on paper. It’s time to go through the projected depth chart and see what the Sixers could look like in the 2022-23 season.

For The Win gives Sixers an A grade for their offseason additions

The Philadelphia 76ers receive another A for their offseason additions to the roster.

The bulk of the offseason moves in the NBA are just about finished and the Philadelphia 76ers have consistently been one of the teams at the top of the offseason boards in the NBA.

The Sixers made big additions such as PJ Tucker, Danuel House Jr., and De’Anthony Melton to the roster as all three players are expected to help Philadelphia move forward. Their skills are almost perfect fits for the Sixers as Tucker and House Jr. are top 3-and-D players in this league while Melton is a great fit for the bench unit.

Bryan Kalbrosky over at For The Win is also a fan of their moves and he gave Philadelphia an A in his offseason grades for all 30 teams:

The fact James Harden was willing to take a discount to return to the Sixers was a massive victory for Philly. This decision helped the organization sign PJ Tucker and Danuel House, and both of whom have had success playing alongside Harden in the past. I also love the addition of De’Anthony Melton, an ideal role player for this roster.

The Sixers should be considered serious contenders to make the NBA Finals.

Time will tell whether these moves will really pay off for the Sixers, but it does appear, on paper at least, that they were able to make the necessary improvements to the roster and continue to push forward on their chase for a title.

De’Anthony Melton posts on Instagram his new Sixers uniform number

De’Anthony Melton reveals his new Philadelphia 76ers uniform on his Instagram.

In three years with the Memphis Grizzlies, new Philadelphia 76ers addition De’Anthony Melton wore No. 0 as he built his reputation as a tough and physical player off the bench.

Now that he is with the Sixers, he had to choose a new uniform number as Tyrese Maxey wears that number in Philadelphia and it’s unlikely that he is giving up that number.

Melton changed his Instagram profile picture to his new Sixers jersey with No. 8 on the back. That means that Paul Millsap, who wore No. 8 with Philadelphia, will almost certainly not be back to clear the way for Melton to choose this new uniform number.

As the Sixers now prepare for the 2022-23 season, Melton will look to solidify the bench unit a bit and be a presence out on the floor for them. Philadelphia has had some bench issues over the years and now is the time to really gear up for a title run with what they hope will be an improved bench unit.

New addition De’Anthony Melton discusses what he brings to Sixers

New addition Philadelphia 76ers De’Anthony Melton discusses how he can help the team have success.

On draft night, the Philadelphia 76ers decided that they did not need to add a rookie to a roster that has championship aspirations. Therefore, they traded the No. 23 pick in the draft along with Danny Green to the Memphis Grizzlies to acquire De’Anthony Melton and bolster their bench.

Melton averaged 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 37.4% from deep for the Grizzlies in the 2021-22 season as he was a big piece of their bench unit. The hope now is that he can bring that to Philadelphia and be a big piece for them on a title run.

Melton sat down with Gina Mizell of The Philadelphia Inquirer and he discussed what he can bring to the Sixers and his reaction to the trade:

“I feel like that’s what this team needs to create easy buckets,” Melton said. ” … I’ve got a quick trigger and I’m ready just to get straight to it. I don’t really do too much dribbling around and stuff like that.”

“I’m ready to be a dog,” Melton said. “I’m ready to get out to the city. I’m ready to embrace it. I’m ready for them to embrace me. I’m ready for the love.”

Melton had a steal percentage of 2.5 and a block percentage of 1.1 which ranked him in the top 5 percentile per Cleaning the Glass in both categories. The turnovers that he can create can help the Sixers get out in transition and be able to use the talent they have on their roster in order to get easy buckets. Philadelphia is a much better team when they are able to get out and run and Melton will certainly help in that regard.

The Athletic gives Sixers an A-plus for De’Anthony Melton addition

The Philadelphia 76ers received an A-plus grade for their trade acquisition of De’Anthony Melton from the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Philadelphia 76ers made their first move of the offseason when they sent Danny Green and the No. 23 pick in Thursday’s draft to the Memphis Grizzlies to acquire De’Anthony Melton.

The Sixers acquired a four-year veteran who is a legitimate player at both ends of the court and who they can count on to bolster the bench in the 2022-23 season. Melton averaged 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 37.4% from deep in 73 games during the 2021-22 season with 15 starts.

Sixers Wire gave its grade on the acquisition of Melton. Now it’s time to take a look at what the other experts are saying about the addition for the Sixers.

The Athletic gave its thoughts on the move and it gave Philadelphia an A-plus for the trade:

Since coming into the NBA in 2018, Melton is the only player in the league to log at least 200 games while shooting at least 36.0 percent from 3-point range and grabbing a 3.0 percent steal rate. He’s one of just five players in NBA history to play at least 200 games with a 36.0 percent or better 3-point accuracy and a steal rate of at least 3.0 percent. Chris Paul, John Stockton, Charlie Ward and Pablo Prigioni are the other four.

In his last two seasons, Melton improved to 38.8 percent on 583 attempts from downtown. He doesn’t turn the ball over nearly as much as he used to. He’s a good rebounder for his size and position. Overall, Melton is just an extremely valuable role player, and he has two more seasons under contract at a total of $16.5 million, which is a great value.

He’ll fit nicely next to James Harden. He’ll fit nicely next to Tyrese Maxey. And you can even play him with both guys on the floor at the same time. The odds of the Sixers getting a ready-made player at 23 in this draft were very low. That’s how you execute.

The last line is very important. Selecting a player at No. 23 and then hoping he becomes a part of the rotation is far-fetched. There is a lot riding on the next 2-to-3 seasons: Philadelphia has to ensure a championship while Joel Embiid is upright and among the best players in the league. Melton fills that need for a win-now player for their bench unit.

Get to know new Sixers guard De’Anthony Melton after draft night trade

Here are some facts and knowledge on new Philadelphia 76ers guard De’Anthony Melton after the draft-night trade.

The Philadelphia 76ers are clearly in win-now mode. A draft pick at No. 23 was not going to help them win a title in the 2022-23 season so president Daryl Morey did what he felt was right by trading the pick as well as Danny Green to the Memphis Grizzlies for De’Anthony Melton.

At this point, now is the time for Sixers fans to get familiar with their team’s newest player. Melton is a guy who can help the Sixers get to the next level and get over the hump in the Eastern Conference and Sixers Wire is going to list some facts and some knowledge on the 4-year veteran to help fans get to know Melton and what he brings to the table.

Daryl Morey believes Sixers got better after De’Anthony Melton trade

Daryl Morey believes the Philadelphia 76ers got better after acquiring De’Anthony Melton from the Memphis Grizzlies.

CAMDEN N.J. — The Philadelphia 76ers swung a trade on Thursday, sending their No. 23 pick and Danny Green to the Memphis Grizzlies to acquire De’Anthony Melton.

Melton will help the Sixers right now, which a rookie selected at No. 23 would not, so this deal helps the Sixers’ short-term title chase. The Sixers selected David Roddy with that pick, but he will head to Memphis in the deal.

Melton averaged 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 37.4% from deep in the 2021-22 season with the Grizzlies. He also provided elite defense on the perimeter. He is the type of guy the Sixers need right now.

“We think we got better tonight,” said president Daryl Morey. “I do want to start by thanking Danny Green. I really wanted to get him the fourth ring, but I think we haven’t seen the last of Danny. He’s been a warrior for us.”

Morey could not offer much detail on the deal because it is not official yet. NBA rules prevent teams from talking about a trade on the record until the deal becomes official. However, Morey gave some hints into what the team was thinking.

“We’re excited about the possibility of some trades coming,” Morey added. “We’re thinking we might be able to pick up a rotation piece. I do want to thank our staff who worked a billion hours on draft picks that may not be here in the future.”

The Sixers have a title in their sights. Led by Joel Embiid and James Harden, they needed a guy like Melton who can come in and contribute off the bench.

“We’re trying to win now,” said Morey without directly speaking about the deal. “We’re looking for players who can contribute, and we were the No. 1 defense two years ago. We were good last year. We want to make sure we improve that so if we can get a perimeter defender maybe for a draft pick, we feel very good about that. We think someone like that is someone that can really contribute and be a two-way player. Someone like that would be a really nice addition.”

De’Anthony Melton, former Grizzlies teammates react to trade with Sixers

They get a young combo guard making less than $10 million in the 2022-23 season who fits right into what they need on the perimeter — shooting at a regular volume, and credible defense on the other end.

The Philadelphia 76ers expensed their first-round pick — the no. 23 selection — in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies. They acquired combo guard De’Anthony Melton in a deal that also sent veteran wing Danny Green to Memphis.

Given the fact that Green was likely to be sidelined for most of the season, if not for its entirety, with knee injuries sustained in Philadelphia’s season-ending loss to the Miami Heat, this is essentially a home run trade for the Sixers.

They get a young combo guard making less than $10 million in the 2022-23 season who fits right into what they need on the perimeter — shooting at a regular volume, and credible defense on the other end.

Having played behind Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Tyus Jones in Memphis, Melton figures to be rewarded with a bigger role in Philly. He appears more than content with his new opportunity while his former Grizzlies teammates were more than happy for their guy.

ACC players selected in the 2022 NBA draft

Who from the Irish’s conference have made the jump?

For the fourth time since 1999, a Duke player was the first overall selection of the NBA draft. That also made it the ninth consecutive year in which the ACC had one of its players taken within the first four picks. The conference had a decent night overall, but the 2022 NBA Draft particularly was amazing for Duke, like that surprises anyone. Meanwhile, Notre Dame saw one of its own selected in the first round, which had not happened in seven years.

While it would be nice to guarantee that all of these players will hit it big in the NBA, we all know that’s unlikely. Some might be future superstars, and others might not even register a single minute in the league. Time will let all of these careers play out, and it’s not really the time to speculate on who will be good or bad. This is the time for them to celebrate the next chapter of their lives.

Here are the ACC players who were drafted by NBA teams in 2022:

Ja Morant reacts to Grizzlies sending De’Anthony Melton to Sixers

Ja Morant reacts to the Memphis Grizzlies sending De’Anthony Melton to the Philadelphia 76ers in a trade.

The Philadelphia 76ers swung a deal on draft night on Thursday as they made the move to send the No. 23 pick as well as Danny Green to the Memphis Grizzlies in order to acquire De’Anthony Melton. The Sixers were in need of players who could help them win right now and that is what this addition does.

The Sixers are in win-now mode as they understand their window to win a championship is now while Joel Embiid is one of the top 5 players in the league and James Harden is next to him to orchestrate things on offense. There was no reason to select a rookie in here so Philadelphia made the move to bring in a legitimate two-way player in Melton.

Grizzlies star Ja Morant tweeted out his reaction by posting a GIF of him and Melton dancing in the hallways. It’s clear that Morant is going to miss Melton in Memphis.

With that being said, the Grizzlies did a very respected veteran in Green and they selected David Roddy with the No. 23 pick. They will be able to continue to grow their team around Morant as they move forward while Melton will help the Sixers continue their chase for a title.
