Ohio State statistical leaders through three games

These guys in particular could be a problem Saturday.

I admit that I probably should leave something like this to the folks overs at Buckeyes Wire. Then again, that’s the whole idea behind the College Wire sites. Every site has something unique to offer, and Fighting Irish Wire is no exception. We encourage you to check out all sites to get your college sports fix, particularly at this time of year when college football is reigning supreme throughout the land.

Now that the shameless plugging is out of the way, let’s talk about why you really clicked on this link. You want to see which Ohio State players are most likely to give Notre Dame problems in one of the most anticipated college football games of the year. These are the players who are most likely to stop a resurgent start to the season for the Irish in its tracks. You probably will see a few of them in the NFL soon.

If you aren’t familiar with these Buckeyes yet, get yourself familiar with them right now:

Ohio State linebacker DeaMonte “Chip” Trayanum loses black stripe

Ohio State welcomes home transfer from Arizona State DeaMonte Trayanum. #GoBucks

Ohio State has been the beneficiary of the transfer portal several times. One more recently came in the form of DeaMonte “Chip” Trayanum who came to the Buckeyes from Arizona State where he spent the last two seasons as a running back for the Sun Devils.

Trayanum is an Ohio native hailing from Akron, where he attended Archbishop Hoban High School. He headed to Tuscon as a four-star prospect. In two years with ASU, Trayanum racked up close to 700 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. However, the lure of coming home was too much as Trayanum entered the transfer portal landing in Columbus with a position change to linebacker.

Check out the moment below posted by the Ohio State Football official Twitter page.

Linebacker has certainly been a position of need in the past few seasons. If nothing else Trayanum will add depth and athleticism to a defense that is being overhauled by new defensive coordinator, Jim Knowles.

Former Arizona State running back transferring to Ohio State to play linebacker

Arizona State running back DeaMonte Trayanum announced his transfer to Ohio State on Christmas Day. He’ll make a move to play linebacker.

It might sound a little bizarre, but the Ohio State football program is getting a running back transfer that’s going to work on playing linebacker for the program.

Former Arizona State running back DeaMonte Trayanum announced on Christmas day that he’ll be transferring to Ohio State and moving to the defensive side of the ball. For the Akron native, it’s an opportunity to come home as well. He was the No. 5 ranked Ohio high school player in the 2020 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Maybe it sounds like an experiment, and it might be to some extent, but let us remind you that Steele Chambers moved from running back to linebacker and turned out to be arguably OSU’s best at the position last season. There are some depth and youth concerns at the position, so adding another body that has the athleticism to make a difference makes a lot of sense.

Trayanum would have been on the shortlist to be the Sun Devils’ starting running back next season had he not decided to transfer. He ran the ball 127 times for 692 yards and 10 touchdowns this fall as a backup and would have been the back with the most experience heading into the 2022 season.

Believe it or not, Trayanum will still have four years of eligibility left if he chooses because of the extra year afforded to college athletes last season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He only played in four games this fall, so that too can be considered a redshirt year.

Welcome aboard DeaMonte!

Arizona State will be without two of its leading rushers against Wisconsin

Arizona State will be without two of its leading rushers against Wisconsin

Much of Arizona State’s success this season has come on the ground with running backs Rachaad White and Deamonte Trayanum and quarterback Jayden Daniels.

White has rushed for 1000 yards and 15 touchdowns on 182 carries, Daniels has 670 yards and 6 touchdowns on 119 carries and Trayanum has 401 yards and 6 touchdowns on 78 rushes.

Two of those three players will not play in Arizona State’s Las Vegas Bowl matchup with Wisconsin. Recent reports say White will skip the bowl game to focus on NFL Draft prep, while Trayanum entered the transfer portal last week.

The news is significant as the Sun Devils boast a top-25 rushing attack, one which they rely on heavily to win football games. Meanwhile, the Badgers present the toughest rush defense matchup in the country.

Now Arizona State will need to find success on the ground without two of its biggest contributors.
