Former Badger quarterback Jack Coan got his first win of his XFL career Sunday as the Brahmas defeated the Orlando Guardians 30-12. The quarterback was able to throw for 165 yards and three touchdowns.

Coan was able to connect with tight end Deon Yelder for a three-yard touchdown in the first quarter, giving the Brahmas an early 6-0 lead.

His next passing score came in the following quarter when he was able to hit another tight end Alize Mack for a 19-yard touchdown.

Finally, he delivered a 24-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jalen Tolliver in the third quarter to get his third score of the day.

After not being selected by the Brahmas and subsequently assigned to their team, Coan seems destined to hold onto the starting role after the franchise’s first ever victory Sunday.

Cardinals release TE Deon Yelder, re-sign OL Greg Long

Greg Long returns after being released on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a roster move two days ahead of their lone preseason home game, their matchup Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens.

The team announced Friday that offensive lineman Greg Long, whom they released on Sunday in the first round of roster cuts, was brought back and re-signed. to make room for him, tight end Deon Yelder was released.

Bringing Long back might be because of the ankle injury that Will Hernandez suffered this week. If Hernandez can’t play on Sunday, then Koda Martin would be pushed into the starting lineup for the game and then the Cardinals wouldn’t have anyone behind him at guard.

Long had been the teams fourth-string center behind Rodney Hudson, Sean Harlow and rookie Lecitus Smith, but he can play guard, too.

With the return of rookie Trey McBride from a back injury and the recent signing of Josh Hokit to the tight end room, Yelder became expendable and, as a veteran entering his fifth season, releasing him now gives him the opportunity to land with another team with at least one preseason game to go.

Giants release Sam Beal, Darqueze Dennard from practice squad

The New York Giants have released DBs Sam Beal and Darqueze Dennard from their practice squad, and protected four others.

For the second time this season, the New York Giants have released cornerback Sam Beal.

Beal, who had been re-signed to the practice squad as the result of the team’s COVID-19 issues, was released on Tuesday alongside fellow defensive back Darqueze Dennard.

Like Beal, Dennard was signed to help bolster the team’s depth amid a COVID-19 outbreak. He was elevated for a Week 16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and drew the brief ire of his teammates for failing to down a punt at the goal line.

Head coach Joe Judge later appeared to absolve Dennard of fault, saying he went out of bounds and therefor couldn’t be the first to touch the ball.

“In Darqueze’s defense a little bit, it’s been a handful of years since he’s played gunner. He’s done a good job. Did a good job for us (Sunday),” Judge told reporters. “He got a little fogged up on the rules — you cannot be the first toucher if you go out of bounds. The second he ran out of bounds in that situation, I was actually walking down the sideline yelling in his ear ‘Don’t touch it, don’t touch it, don’t touch it,’ because that’s an illegal touch penalty and inside the five it becomes a touchback anyway right there.”

With some available space on the practice squad, the Giants re-signed tight end Jake Hausmann.

Finally, the team also announced their practice squad protections for Week 17. They include wide receiver/return man Pharoh Cooper, defensive back Natrell Jamerson, defensive tackle David Moa and tight end Deon Yelder.

Giants place Nate Ebner on IR, sign Chris Myarick from practice squad

The New York Giants have placed ST Nate Ebner on injured reserve and signed TE Chris Myarick from their practice squad.

The New York Giants have placed veteran defensive back and special teams ace, Nate Ebner, on injured reserve with a knee injury. He will miss at least three games before he’s eligible to return.

Meanwhile, with tight ends Kyle Rudolph (ankle) and Kaden Smith (knee) both ailing, the team decided to sign tight end Chris Myarick off of their practice squad.

Myarick has appeared in four games for the Giants this season, taking 21 offensive snaps. He has drawn one target, but has no receptions.

With a spot open on their practice squad, the Giants have re-signed tight end Jake Hausmann to the reserve unit nearly three weeks after terminating his contract. It’s the third time he’s been released and then re-signed this season.

The 24-year-old Hausmann was originally signed by the Detroit Lions as an undrafted rookie out of Ohio State back in April. He was waived by the team on August 6 and claimed by the Giants a day later.

Hausmann was released as a part of final cuts but immediately signed to the Giants’ practice squad. He was the team’s highest-graded preseason rookie.

Finally, the Giants also signed tight end Deon Yelder to their practice squad.

Titans place LB B.J. Bello on IR, swap out tight ends

The Titans made three roster moves ahead of Sunday’s practice.

The Tennessee Titans made three roster moves on Sunday ahead of their 13th training camp practice, which is the first session since the team opened its preseason slate on Friday night.

The team announced that it has placed linebacker B.J. Bello on Injured Reserve after he suffered an ankle injury during the preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

Tennessee also decided to swap out tight ends. Gabe Holmes, who joined the team in the middle of last week, has been waived. The team added Deon Yelder in his place.

Yelder, a 23-year-old tight end who originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2018, has spent three years in the NFL, appearing in 26 games (two starts) with the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 2020, Yelder saw action in 11 games (one start), tallying seven receptions for 36 yards. He also played 89 snaps on special teams.

The Western Kentucky product is the Titans’ latest addition to a depth competition at the position that also includes Tommy Hudson, Miller Forristall, Luke Stocker, and Jared Pinkney.

Washington signs veteran tight end Ricky Seals-Jones

The Washington Football Team signed veteran tight end Ricky Seals-Jones on Tuesday as they continue to add depth to the tight end room,

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbykgy681k112p8 player_id=none image=https://washingtonfootballwire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

The Washington Football Team signed veteran tight end Ricky Seals-Jones on Tuesday as they continue to add depth to the tight end room, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Seals-Jones, 26, is entering his fifth NFL season in 2021. He spent the 2020 season with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he appeared in just two games. Seals-Jones is the second former Kansas City tight end to sign with Washington in recent weeks, joining Deon Yelder.

Washington now has starting tight end Logan Thomas, international free-agent signing Sammis Reyes, fourth-round pick John Bates, Yelder, Seals-Jones, Temarrick Hemmingway and Tyrone Swoopes on the offseason roster.

Entering the offseason, depth at tight end was a priority. However, Washington never felt like it needed a high-end option as the team likes Thomas as the starter.

Clearly, head coach Ron Rivera feels comfortable bringing in several veteran options to compete with younger players like Bates and Reyes to give the WFT depth behind Thomas.

Seals-Jones entered the league in 2017 with the Arizona Cardinals, where he spent two seasons. He played for the Cleveland Browns in 2019 before signing with the Chiefs in 2020. His best season came in 2018 when he caught 34 passes for 343 yards and a touchdown. He scored four touchdowns with Cleveland in 2019.

Former Chiefs TE Deon Yelder signs with Washington Football Team

Yelder is the first of a few Chiefs free agents remaining to sign with a team following the draft.

A former Kansas City Chiefs tight end has found a new home in free agency.

Deon Yelder has landed with the Washington Football Team after spending three seasons in Kansas City. The 26-year-old was an undrafted free agent out of Western Kentucky and a player that the Chiefs had shown interest in ahead of the 2018 NFL draft. He got his start with the New Orleans Saints but was released during roster cuts.

Yelder joined the Chiefs initially in October of 2018, signing to their practice squad briefly before being elevated to the 53-man roster. He made the 53-man roster out of training camp the following season, appearing in nine games for the Chiefs in 2019, including one start. He’d follow that year up with 14 games played in 2020, mostly contributing to special teams.

Yelder was a restricted free agent with the Chiefs this offseason but wasn’t tendered a contract offer by the team. He had a chance to secure a larger role in Kansas City, earning his second career start in Week 17 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The game was a disaster for Yelder, catching just two of six passes that went his way for six yards.

Now, Yelder will get another fresh start in Washington, where he’ll have some steep competition for a roster spot and playing time. The clear starter is Logan Thomas, but the team also drafted former Boise State TE John Bates. Yelder’s direct competition will be players like Temarick Hemingway, Marcus Baugh, Tyrone Swoopes, and Sammis Reyes.

Washington signs a pair of veteran free agents

The 2021 NFL draft is over, but that doesn’t mean the Washington Football Team is done adding talent to the roster.

The 2021 NFL draft is over, but that doesn’t mean the Washington Football Team is done adding talent to the roster.

The Football Team announced on Wednesday they had agreed to terms with a pair of veteran free agents in tight end Deon Yelder and cornerback Linden Stephens.

The 26-year-old Yelder is entering his fourth season in the NFL. After going undrafted out of Western Kentucky, Yelder signed with New Orleans as an undrafted free agent. He was cut at the end of training camp.

Yelder then signed with Kansas City’s practice squad on Oct. 4, 2018. He was promoted to the active roster and appeared in three games that season. Yelder played in a total of nine games for the Chiefs in 2019, catching three passes for 50 yards.

Yelder appeared in 14 games for Kansas City in 2020. He caught seven passes for 36 yards.

He comes to Washington with a chance to compete for a roster spot as the backup to starter Logan Thomas. Washington drafted Boise State tight end John Bates in the fourth round of the draft. Yelder joins Thomas, Bates, Sammis Reyes, Marcus Baugh and Temarrick Hemingway as the tight ends on Washington’s roster.

Stephens entered the league, coincidentally enough, in 2018 as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints. He has spent time with the Saints, Broncos, Rams, Dolphins and two stints with the Seahawks. He played 13 games for Seattle in 2020.

The 6-foot-0, 193-pound Stephens played collegiately at Cincinnati.
