How Chargers can replace Rashawn Slater for remainder of 2022 season

The Chargers have a few options for the next man up.

The Chargers will be without star left tackle Rashawn Slater for the rest of the season after he suffered a ruptured biceps injury in the loss to the Jaguars.

Still very early in the season, Los Angeles will have to figure out a plan to have Justin Herbert’s blindside protected.

They can stick with what they have in Storm Norton as the starting left tackle, but yesterday’s performance exemplified that he is not ready for that responsibility as he allowed eight pressures on 25 pass-blocking snaps.

Or, the team could move Norton to right tackle and Pipkins to left tackle. Pipkins performed admirably well last season at left tackle, allowing just three pressures on 43 pass-block snaps.

While replacing Slater’s skill level in a pinch is impossible, there are a few ways the team can still get competency from the position.

If they choose to look at outside options, let’s take a look at how the Bolts can replace Slater.

9 recently cut players the Colts should consider adding

A look at some recently cut players the Colts should consider adding.

The Indianapolis Colts trimmed the roster down to 53 players but now it’s time to take a look at any potential targets to add that were recently cut on Tuesday.

Holding the No. 16 spot in the waiver wire order, the Colts may not have a ton of chances to grab quality players, but they will still have their eyes on a handful of potential additions. We took a look at some positions the Colts should consider adding to following roster cuts.

Here’s a look at nine recently cut players the Colts should consider adding:

Report: Patriots sign OL Daryl Williams

Daryl Williams has played in 89 games and has started 74.

The New England Patriots are adding offensive lineman Daryl Williams, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. Williams, who has spent most of his career at center, will work toward a depth spot on the roster behind center David Andrews.

Williams entered the NFL in 2014 as a fourth-round pick. He played with the Carolina Panthers from 2015 to 2019 before joining the Buffalo Bills from 2020 to 2021. He has played in 89 games and has started 74. The 29-year-old guard is 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds.

Williams joins an interior offensive line group that includes Andrews, James Ferentz and Kody Russey at center. They also have guards Cole Strange, Michael Onwenu, Will Sherman and Chasen Hines, among others.

Belichick referenced Williams’ ability to step in for an injury-riddled Bills offensive line in December of last season. The Patriots coach indicated he was impressed with the depth that Williams added to the interior in 2021. And perhaps Belichick wants Williams to do the same for New England in 2022.

5 great right tackle options on market with Raiders set to add $20 million under the cap

Raiders are about to add $20 million in spending cash and there are still a lot of great right tackle options on the market

We tend to think of free agency having a couple of waves that happen back in March. But there’s another wave that is building strength as we speak. This one crashes on the shore on June 1.

This offseason the Raiders made a few cuts, some to save cap money, some to simply let go of unproductive players. A couple of those cuts left a scar — specifically the releases of Cory Littleton and Carl Nassib.

But in order to limit the bleeding in the short term, they gave those players a post-June 1 cut designation. This means that after June 1, a large portion of the dead money they left behind is moved to next year’s cap, which in turn frees up that money right now.

It’s no small amount, either. The Raiders will see their available money under the cap go up nearly $20 million after June 1 — $19.75 to be exact — raising it from the current available amount of around $5 million to over $25 million.

One position of great need for the Raiders this offseason which they have not sufficiently addressed is offensive tackle — right tackle specifically. And, as it turns out, there are actually still a lot of solid starting options out there, presumably waiting for this day so teams will have the funds to offer them a suitable salary.

12 remaining free agents the Bills could target after NFL draft

12 remaining free agents the #Bills could target after NFL draft:

The Buffalo Bills finished out the 2022 NFL draft with eight players joining their roster. Now things will jump back to free agency.

After the draft, another wave of free agency typically hits. Sometimes it’s too hard for teams to fill out all their needs this early in the offseason, plus it’s just a numbers game. Teams, the Bills included, need to get closer the the training camp roster total of 90.

With free agency potentially starting back up for the Bills again, here are 12 players that Buffalo could target:

5 free agents the Chargers could consider to replace Bryan Bulaga

The Chargers released Bryan Bulaga on Tuesday, leaving free agency as a potential outlet to find his replacement.

The Chargers released Bryan Bulaga on Tuesday.

Los Angeles returns Storm Norton, who played in place of the injured Bulaga this past season. However, Norton had his fair share of struggles, which means the team may elect to go with a stop-gap veteran.

Should the Bolts explore that option, here’s a look at five free agents that would make sense.

Buffalo Bills release OL Daryl Williams

#Bills release OL Daryl Williams:

The Buffalo Bills made an important salary cap move on the eve of free agency’s start. The team announced that offensive lineman Daryl Williams has been released.

In cutting Williams, the Bills save $6 million against the salary cap. Prior to the move, Buffalo was only slightly over the cap but now the team has some breathing room.

In an added layer, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that the two sides “will remain in touch.” He added a return to the Bills is not out of the question.

Where does the Sooners’ 2022 recruiting class rank since 2010 for Oklahoma?

How does the 2022 recruiting class rank for the Oklahoma Sooners since 2010?

The Oklahoma Sooners coaching staff did some incredible work over the last two months to push their 2022 recruiting class into the top eight in the nation. Signing day acquisitions helped give them a bump from No. 10, but the groundwork was already laid. The Sooners, without a five-star athlete, signed one of the best classes in the country.

Oklahoma is no stranger to successful recruiting efforts. Since 2010, it has had six classes rank inside the top 10 of 247Sports team composite. The Sooners’ highest-rated class came in 2010. However, the 2017 class had, arguably, the greatest impact within that time period. That was Bob Stoops’ last recruiting class before he retired. That class ranked eighth in the nation and No. 1 in the Big 12 for that cycle.

The 2017 recruiting class featured Creed Humphrey, Orlando Brown, CeeDee Lamb, Marquis Brown, Kenneth Murray, Trey Sermon, Tre Brown, Tre Norwood and Adrian Ealy. All are in the NFL. Isaiah Thomas, Kennedy Brooks, Marquis Hayes, Tyrese Robinson and Jeremiah Hall will join them this April.

That recruiting class also included Grant Calcaterra, who was on an upward trajectory at OU before concussions set him back, leading to his transfer to SMU.

The 2017 recruiting class won four Big 12 titles and competed in two College Football Playoff games.

So let’s take a look at how the 2022 recruiting class stacks up since 2010 according to 247Sports composite team recruiting rankings.

Bills vs. Patriots: 6 things to watch for during wild-card round

#Bills vs. #Patriots: 6 things to watch for during wild-card round:

The Buffalo Bills will begin another long postseason journey this weekend. The Bills (11-6) host the New England Patriots (10-7) for a third time to start that attempt.

Once this wild-card battle nears, there will a few particular things to keep in mind.

With that, here are six things to watch for during Saturday’s Bills-Patriots matchup:

Several former Oklahoma Sooners heading to the NFL playoffs

With the NFL regular season wrapped up, which former Sooners are heading to the NFL playoffs?

Oklahoma DNA can be found all over the NFL these days. After fantastic seasons, several former Sooners will play in the postseason for their respective teams.

Former quarterbacks Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts will lead their respective teams into the playoffs. Murray and the Arizona Cardinals go on the road to face the NFC West champion Los Angeles Rams. Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles travel to take on Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Facing off against Murray and fellow former Sooner Jordan Phillips will be former offensive lineman Bobby Evans.

Sticking with the NFC, CeeDee Lamb and the Dallas Cowboys will play host to Trent Williams and the San Francisco 49ers. Lamb capped a great second year in the league with 1,102 yards receiving, 79 receptions and six touchdowns for the Cowboys. He finished 12th in the league in receiving yards while leading a talented Dallas Cowboys wide receiver corps. Along with Lamb, Neville Gallimore will be making his first appearance in the playoffs.

Turning to the AFC, after finishing second in the NFL in rushing yards, Joe Mixon and the Cincinnati Bengals will host the Las Vegas Raiders in the wild-card round. Samaje Perine also plays for the Bengals. The Raiders pulled off an overtime win over the Los Angeles Chargers and Kenneth Murray’s squad to make it into the postseason.

Cody Ford and Daryl Williams will take on Rhamondre Stevenson as the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots are set for their first-round matchup.

Sticking with the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs, with Orlando Brown, Creed Humphrey, Blake Bell and James Winchester, remain one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl this season. The team is led by Patrick Mahomes.

With six games this weekend, there are several opportunities to put on your Sooners gear and cheer your favorite former Sooners as they make their way through the NFL playoffs with the hopes of hoisting the Lombardi trophy.
