PFF praises multiple Bills interior defensive linemen

A trio of praise from PFF:

The Buffalo Bills aren’t a team that comes to mind when you think of some of the top interior defensive linemen in the NFL. Names like Aaron Donald and Chris Jones jump to the top of the list.

But the Bills do have a few of the best defensive tackles on their defense in football, according to Pro Football Focus.

PFF ranked the top 32 interior defenders in the NFL. Not only does more than one of Buffalo’s appear, there’s a trio: Ed Oliver, Poona Ford and DaQuan Jones.

Oliver has long been beloved by the Bills’ front office. The team signed him to an extension in June. Ford is the newest of the three, not yet having suited up for Buffalo’s defense after signing a one-year deal following the 2023 NFL draft.

Ford joins Jones as a rotational space-eating defensive tackle while Oliver’s skill set allows him to rush the passer. Depth is something the team did not have with Jones last season, and having it moving forward could be a key factor in 2023.

Here’s how PFF ranked and broken down all three Bills players:

Bills arrive to 2023 minicamp: Shirts optional, scooters driven

James Cook & DaQuan Jones got… creative:

The Buffalo Bills have taken the field for 2023 minicamp. Some showed up for the occasion in quite the unique way.

The team shared images and video of players walking up to their Orchard Park headquarters for workouts on Tuesday.

A few… were feeling creative.

In one photo shared, running back James Cook walked in the building… without a shirt on.

Then he was upscaled by a teammate.

You can’t tell because of the helmet, but defensive tackle DaQuan Jones is the player that decided to show up riding a scooter. It was revealed to be Jones via the team’s social media account on Instagram.

Safety first, at least.

Bills teammates join Von Miller at his annual pass-rush summit

#Bills teammates join Von Miller at his annual pass-rush summit:

Since 2017, Buffalo Bills defensive end Von Miller has held an annual “pass-rush summit” each offseason.

He gathers up some of the top pass-rushing talents from across the NFL and they all get together, workout, and watch film for a few days. It’s a chance to share tricks of the trade in an effort for everyone to get better.

The 2023 edition went down this past weekend and a few of Miller’s teammates with the Bills were in attendance once again.

According to the Buffalo News, here’s which teammates joined Miller during the event outside of Las Vegas:

Predicting the Bills starting defense following the 2023 NFL draft

Here’s how the #Bills defense could look in 2023 (via @jdiloro):

The Buffalo Bills defense faired well last season, allowing the second-fewest points per game in the NFL. The team fought injuries and unthinkable circumstances to put together a solid campaign.

The Bills enter the 2023 season with some changes to their unit. The hope is that the unit can make a few more dynamic plays to get the team over the hump and deeper into the playoffs.

In addition, the Bills defense faces a few challenges, as five-year starter Tremaine Edmunds left via free agency. In addition, standout Von Miller is questionable to return by  Week 1 as he recovers from an ACL tear suffered in November.

With that, here is an early prediction of who will start for the Bills on defense following the 2023 NFL draft:

DaQuan Jones makes recruiting pitch for Jeffery Simmons to join Bills

DaQuan Jones thinks Jeffery Simmons would look good in a Bills uniform.

Tennessee Titans star defender Jeffery Simmons will undoubtedly be a popular topic of conversation this entire offseason.

The All-Pro defensive tackle has made it blatantly obvious that he would like a new deal before the start of the new season, and so much so that Simmons has even decided to go with the modern-day leverage route by deleting pictures of the Titans from his social media accounts.

This is a negotiating tactic veterans often use in recent years to create a stir within the fanbase and media in hopes that it puts pressure on the team to hurry up and meet their asking price.

However, you can’t blame Titans fans for being at least a little nervous after last season’s disastrous decision to trade A.J. Brown that was proceeded by him removing “Tennessee” from his Twitter bio.

Bills defensive lineman and former Titan DaQuon Jones recently decided to take advantage of the rumor mill by posting a picture of the two together, with the caption, “wouldn’t he look [good] in a Bills uniform?”

These types of half-joking recruiting pitches are nothing new in the NFL and probably won’t be going away until Simmons signs on the dotted line.

This could end up being a very long offseason full of long, ugly contract negotiations, or it could all be avoided if the two can come to a mutual agreement over the coming weeks.

For the fanbase’s sanity, let’s hope Tennessee’s new general manager, Ran Carthon, can get this done sooner rather than later.

The Buffalo Bills will host the Miami Dolphins in their upcoming Week 15 game.

Even with it being an AFC East showdown, it will still be the games, within the game, that will make all the difference.

Here are three key matchups to watch during Saturday’s Bills-Dolphins clash:

Bills’ DaQuan Jones: ‘Make that guy’s job a living hell’

DL DaQuan Jones is enjoying his role with the #Bills:

The play of the Buffalo Bills’ defensive line has been under a microscope. That will again be the case when the Bills (10-3) host the Miami Dolphins (8-5) in Week 15.

But so far… so good. Since Von Miller departed the lineup, Buffalo has seen strong play from their defensive front.

Guys like Greg Rousseau and Ed Oliver come to mind due to their pass-rushing prowess.

A name like DaQuan Jones goes under the radar. His job involves getting after the quarterback, but the opposing run game is a big emphasis for him.

After Buffalo’s recent 20-12 win against the New York Jets, head coach Sean McDermott was pleased with the way his defense has held up against the ground attack.

“I thought the D-line overall, you could feel them, you know?” McDermott said via video conference. “When you’re playing hard, you’re coming off the ball, you’re establishing the line of scrimmage.”

In terms of Jones specifically, his role is one that’s the same as the one Star Lotulelei had on the D-line in the past. Take up space, let others get to the ball.

An unsung hero in that light, that’s not the way Jones looks at it.

In his mind, each and every snap, he’s not just trying to take up a blocker. He’s trying to ruin an offensive lineman’s life.

“For me, I like to go out there and try to be as physical as I can, and make that guy’s job in front of me a living hell,” Jones said.
