Giants injury report: Saquon Barkley, Kadarius Toney and three others sit

The New York Giants had a lengthy injury report on Thursday, including five who did not practice and four others who were limited.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Thursday without safety Jabrill Peppers, who has been placed on injured reserve with a ruptured ACL and high-ankle sprain.

Eyes turned to running back Saquon Barkley and wide receivers Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shepard and Kadarius Toney, all of whom sat out last week.

The good news? Shepard was on the field participating with his teammates. The bad news? Golladay, Barkley and Toney were not, although they did work on the side with trainers. All are considered 50-50 shots to play on Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Giants’ full Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), LB Lorenzo Carter (ankle), DB Nate Ebner (ankle), WR Kenny Golladay (knee), WR Kadarius Toney (ankle)

Limited participant: TE Evan Engram (calf), DL Danny Shelton (pec), WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring), TE Kaden Smith (knee)

Giants’ Saquon Barkley, Kadarius Toney out vs. Panthers

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley and WR Kadarius Toney are among three out and four questionable vs. the Carolina Panthers.

The New York Giants will limp into Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers, who are down a few key players of their own.

The Giants, however, are completely injury ravaged and will be without a slew of skill position players, offensive linemen and other role players. That lists includes running back Saquon Barkley and Kenny Golladay.

The Giants’ final injury report of the week can be found below:

Out: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), WR Kenny Golladay (knee), WR Kadarius Toney (ankle)

Doubtful: DT Danny Shelton (pectoral)

Questionable: WR Darius Slayton (hamstring), WR John Ross (hamstring), TE Evan Engram (calf), WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring)

Meanwhile, for the Panthers, here is how their final injury report stacked up to close out the work week:

Out: Shaq Thompson (foot), Terrace Marshall Jr. (concussion), Gio Ricci (concussion)

Giants injury report: Evan Engram, Sterling Shepard added

Tight end Evan Engram and wide receiver Sterling Shepard were added to a growing New York Giants injury report.

The New York Giants took the field for their first full practice of the week on Thursday and things weren’t much better than they were on Wednesday.

Running back Saquon Barkley (ankle), and wide receivers Kenny Golladay (knee) and Kadarius Toney (ankle) were not participating during the portion of practice open to the media.

Practice squad offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson (illness) was also not participating.

Then good news was that wide receiver John Ross (hamstring), tight end Kaden Smith (knee) and rookie linebacker Azeez Ojulari (personal) were back on the field.

The Giants’ full Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), WR Kenny Golladay (knee), TE Evan Engram (calf), WR Kadarius Toney (ankle)

Giants injury report: Kadarius Toney among six who don’t practice

New York Giants WR Kadarius Toney (ankle) was among six who did not practice on Wednesday and among nine on the injury report.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday for a walkthrough and as anticipated, it was more like an episode of “The Walking Dead.”

Fresh off adding left tackle Andrew Thomas (foot/ankle) and wide receiver C.J. Board (ankle) to injured reserve, the Giants saw a large chunk of their roster sit out.

Among those not in attendance during the media portion of practice were wide receivers Kadarius Toney and Kenny Golladay, running back Saquon Barkley and rookie edge rusher Azeez Ojulari . . . to name a few.

Additionally, wide receiver John Ross was working on the side with trainers.

Simply put, this is not a great situation for the Giants. Their season is already circling the proverbial bowl and now their depth has been completely shattered.

The Giants’ full Wednesday injury report can be found below (projected due to practice being a walkthrough):

Did not participate: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), WR Kenny Golladay (knee), LB Azeez Ojulari (not injury related), WR John Ross (hamstring), TE Kaden Smith (knee), WR Kadarius Toney (ankle)

Limited participant: OL Ben Bredeson (hand), DL Danny Shelton (pec), WR Darius Slayton (hamstring)

Giants dominated by far superior Rams, 38-11, in Week 6

The New York Giants were manhandled by the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, losing by a score of 38-11 and falling to 1-5 on the season.

The New York Giants opened Week 6 as 7.5-point home underdogs against the Los Angeles Rams and that briefly ballooned to +10.5. And that’s probably where the spread should have stayed.

After taking a brief first quarter lead, it was all downhill for the Giants from there. They failed and were beaten in every aspect of the game, leaving a half-empty MetLife Stadium to boo.

Injuries were again the theme as several players were lost, but that will not and can not be used as an excuse.

Following their latest loss, New York now falls to 1-5 on the season with no real breaks coming in the immediate future.

Kadarius Toney, Julian Love were highest-graded Giants in Week 5

WR Kadarius Toney and DB Julian Love earned the New York Giants’ highest grades in a Week 5 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The New York Giants were embarrassed on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 44-20.

In the process of the defeat, the Giants also lost quarterback Daniel Jones (concussion), running back Saquon Barkley (ankle), wide receiver Kenny Golladay (knee) and rookie cornerback Rodarius Williams (knee) to injury.

But things weren’t all negative. We witnessed the emergence of wide receiver Kadarius Toney who, despite being ejected in the fourth quarter, finished the game with 10 receptions for a team rookie record 189 yards.

Unsurprisingly, Toney led the Giants with a Pro Football Focus grade of 92.4.

Just behind Toney on the offensive side of the ball were right tackle Matt Peart (69.8), tight end Evan Engram (69.0) and guard Will Hernandez (65.8).

Other notable offensive grades include tight end Kyle Rudolph (58.9), quarterback Mike Glennon (53.3) and wide receiver John Ross (52.9).

The lowest-graded offensive player in Week 5 was left tackle Nate Solder (38.8).

On defensive, Mr. Do-It-All Julian Love led the charge with an 80.0. Just behind him were defensive lineman Austin Johnson (64.7), linebacker Lorenzo Carter (63.6) and nose tackle Danny Shelton (62.6).

Other notable defensive grades include linebacker Reggie Ragland (59.7), cornerback James Bradberry (57.7) and safety Logan Ryan (51.9).

The lowest-graded Giant on the day was linebacker Tae Crowder (28.7).

Giants fall to Broncos: Winners, losers and those in between

Here are the winners, losers and those in between from the New York Giants’ Week 1 loss to the Denver Broncos.

The New York Giants played host to the Denver Broncos on Sunday afternoon in front of the first packed house since 2019.

However, just as it was in 2019 and again last season without fans, there wasn’t much to cheer for. There was, however, a lot to boo over. And boo the fans did.

Teddy Bridgewater and the Broncos dominated the Giants from the open whistle until the final whistle. The 27-13 score doesn’t actually represent just how one-sided the game actually was.

Let’s take a look at the winners and losers (and those in between) from the latest and all too familiar Giants loss.

Giants’ Saquon Barkley questionable, Evan Engram out vs. Broncos

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley is questionable but likely to play against the Denver Broncos, while TE Evan Engram is out.

The New York Giants will finally, officially see the return of running back Saquon Barkley (knee) on Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

Nearly a year to the day (Sept. 20, 2020) after suffering a torn ACL versus the Chicago Bears, Barkley will step back onto the field in a live, competitive environment. And a pitch count? That might be off the table, too.

Despite being listed as questionable, expect Saquon to be a full-go after getting through practice without a setback.

Meanwhile, tight end Evan Engram (calf) continued his work on the side, but was still ruled out against the Broncos.

The remainder of the Giants’ injury report, including the status of cornerback Adoree’ Jackson and tight end Kyle Rudolph, can be found below:

Out: TE Evan Engram (calf)

Doubtful: N/A

Questionable: RB Saquon Barkley (knee), CB Adoree’ Jackson (ankle)

No designation: WR Kenny Golladay (hamstring), LB Justin Hilliard (foot), DB Josh Jackson (calf), TE Kyle Rudolph (foot), DT Danny Shelton (neck), TE Kaden Smith (knee), OT Andrew Thomas (ankle), WR Kadarius Toney (hamstring).

Giants injury report: Evan Engram sits again, positive news for others

Several New York Giants trended in the right direction on Thursday, but TE Evan Engram (calf) seems unlikely to play in Week 1.

The New York Giants returned to the field on Thursday afternoon in preparation for a Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos and several injured players continued to trend in the right direction.

Prior to practice, offensive coordinator Jason Garrett announced the news everyone was waiting to hear: running back Saquon Barkley is finally 100 percent.

“[I have] a lot of confidence in him as a player. I think he’s done a great job to get himself back healthy and 100 percent,” Garrett told reporters.

There was also optimism surrounding rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney (hamstring), who may take on a “significant role” this Sunday.

“Kadarius is earning everyone’s trust. He’s getting out here and he’s working,” special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey said.

News was not nearly as positive for tight end Evan Engram (calf), who was again limited to work with trainers on the side. He is likely out against Denver.

The Giants’ full Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: TE Evan Engram (calf)

Limited participant: RB Saquon Barkley (knee), WR Kenny Golladay (hamstring), LB Justin Hilliard (foot), CB Adoree’ Jackson (ankle), DB Josh Jackson (calf), TE Kyle Rudolph (foot), DT Danny Shelton (neck), TE Kaden Smith (knee), OT Andrew Thomas (ankle) and WR Kadarius Toney (hamstring).

Giants injury report: Saquon Barkley limited, Evan Engram DNP

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (knee) was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday, but TE Evan Engram (calf) sat out.

The New York Giants took the field for their first (full) regular-season practice of 2021 on Wednesday and all eyes were on running back Saquon Barkley (knee).

As anticipated, Barkley was geared up and took the field with his teammates. He participated during the portion of practice open to the media, as did wide receivers Kenny Golladay (hamstring) and Kadarius Toney (hamstring).

“Yeah I’m good. Just working every day to get better,” Toney told reporters when asked if he’s healthy and ready. “I’m here to do my job. Whatever they say.”

Head coach Joe Judge said Toney would likely play a “significant role” on Sunday against the Denver Broncos, but he specified production over volume.

Meanwhile, tight end Evan Engram (calf) did not participate in practice and his status for Week 1 remains very much in doubt.
