Georgia DB entering transfer portal ahead of SEC championship

Georgia defensive back to enter transfer portal, who has started several games this year, days before SEC championship vs. Texas

Georgia Bulldogs redshirt sophomore defensive back Julian Humphrey intends to enter the transfer portal. Humphrey announced his intentions to enter the portal via social media. The transfer portal officially opens on Dec. 9.

Humphrey announced his plans just six days before Georgia plays against Texas in the 2024 SEC championship game.

Humphrey has played and started in several games for Georgia this season. In recent week, Daniel Harris has taken over as the primary cornerback alongside Daylen Everette, signaling a shift in Georgia’s lineup. It now appears that Humphrey has made a decision about his future. Humphrey has 10 tackles and four pass break ups in 10 games this season.

After briefly entering the transfer portal following last season and announcing his departure after the Orange Bowl, Humphrey ultimately chose to return to Georgia. However, based on the timing it now seems like he will transfer to another program. It is unclear if Humphrey will continue practicing with the team.

A member of Georgia’s 2022 recruiting class, Humphrey was a highly regarded four-star prospect and ranked among the top 100 players in the nation. Originally from Texas, he initially committed to Florida during his recruitment but later decommitted and pledged to the Bulldogs. During his time in Athens, he contributed as both a starting and reserve defensive back.

Humphrey’s decision to enter the transfer portal is a blow to UGA’s outside cornerback depth. The Bulldogs would likely have to turn to Ellis Robinson

4-star CB Daniel Harris recommits, signs with Georgia

Daniel Harris is a Dawg.

4-star cornerback Daniel Harris originally committed to Georgia back in July, choosing UGA over Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State.

In November, Harris de-committed from the Bulldogs and reopened his recruitment. Penn State would emerge as a contender for Harris, but on Wednesday, the Miami native decided to re-commit to Georgia and send in his National Letter of Intent.

He announced his commitment to Georgia on Wednesday morning, and also stated in a separate tweet that he will not be enrolling early.

Harris ranks as the nation’s No. 153 overall player and No. 17 ranked cornerback in the class of 2023. He played his high school football at Gulliver Prep in Miami.

As a defensive back, Harris does a good job of reading the quarterback. He pins receivers to the sideline and uses his length well in coverage. Harris is a willing run defender, but could improve upon his tackling form before playing at the highest level of college football.

Ohio State 2023 recruiting wish list ahead of the early signing period

This would be a stellar close to the early signing period #GoBucks

The Buckeyes are looking to finish strong ahead of the early signing period next Wednesday and it’s recently been a mixed bag on the recruiting trail. They gained a quarterback, 2023 [autotag]Lincoln Kienholz[/autotag], and lost one, 2024 [autotag]Dylan Raiola[/autotag], while adding the top 2024 wide receiver, [autotag]Jeremiah Smith[/autotag], between the sign callers decisions.

The focus should be back on the 2023 cycle, [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] has five open scholarships available, with 20 current commitments. The class ranks in the top 10 according all three major recruiting services but there is obviously room to move north.

As the majority of players now sign in this period instead of waiting until the first Wednesday of February, the Buckeyes need to close out this portion of the cycle and move their focus to the 2024 class. These are the five, that the Bucks have a realistic chance at, recruits that I would love the see sign with [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] this coming Wednesday.

4-star DB Daniel Harris decommits from UGA football

Four-star defensive back recruit Daniel Harris has decommitted from UGA. Will he commit to Penn State?

Four-star defensive back recruit Daniel Harris has decommitted from the Georgia Bulldogs after originally committing to Kirby Smart and company on July 1, 2022.

Harris has scholarship offers from some of the best college football programs across the country, but is expected to flip his commitment to Penn State. Harris is also considering Michigan and Ohio State.

The four-star cornerback was Georgia’s 13th commitment in the class of 2023 back when he committed. Georgia now has 20 commitments. The Bulldogs have the No. 2 recruiting class in the country.

Georgia football still has commitments from four defensive backs. Defensive backs coach Fran Brown is doing an excellent job of recruiting elite talent. Five-star cornerback AJ Harris, four-star cornerback Justyn Rhett, four-star cornerback Chris Peal, and four-star safety Joenel Aguero.

Why did Harris decommit from Georgia? A few contributing reasons are because Georgia is signing a lot of defensive backs and has a ton of competition at the position. Penn State will have a little bit less competition at defensive back.

Decision date set for Penn State cornerback target in Florida

Will Penn State score a surprising commitment from a four-star CB from Miami this week?

A target on Penn State’s radar in the Class of 2023 will be making his decision known later this week. But the Nittany Lions appear to be a longshot to secure the commitment.

Daniel Harris, a four-star cornerback from Miami, Florida has confirmed he will be announcing his college decision on July 1 after completing his official visits. One of those visits was to Penn State, but an SEC school appears to be the overwhelming favorite to secure the commitment from Harris.

Harris shared his top four schools on his Twitter account, including Penn State, along with his confirmation of his decision date. In addition to Penn State, Haris also has Ohio State, Michigan, and Georgia in his top four. The reigning national champion Georgia Bulldogs are viewed as the runaway favorite according to recruiting predictions.

Harris made his most recent official visit to Penn State this past weekend, and he had positive things to say about his experience.

I had a very good experience on my official visits,” Harris said to On3. “The staff was great. Being around them and the players was the best part of my visit. I like coach Smith a lot too. He has put guys into the NFL and we have that connection.”

Penn State has secured a stable defensive secondary through recent recruiting efforts but there is always room for another four-star talent. Getting a commitment from Harris may be a long shot for the Nittany Lions and any o the Big Ten schools pulling him away from Georgia would be viewed as a surprising development. But we’ll just have to wait and see how the decision goes down later this week.
