Panthers sign 2 players to practice squad on Wednesday

The Panthers restocked their practice squad with a couple of familiar names on Wednesday.

The Carolina Panthers restocked their practice squad this morning.

Wide receiver Dax Milne and linebacker Jackson Mitchell were officially signed to the group on Wednesday. Both have previously spent time on Carolina’s practice squad this season.

Milne was selected by the Washington Commanders (or the then-Washington Football Team) in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL draft. He’d go on to serve primarily as a special teams weapon over his two seasons there, amassing a league-high 40 punt returns at an average of 7.8 yards per attempt in 2022.

Mitchell first joined the Panthers as an undrafted free agent following this year’s draft. The University of Connecticut rookie will now enter his third stint with the organization, a day after signing with the United Football League’s Memphis Showboats.

The two will fill the spots left vacant by yesterday’s promotions of wide receiver Dan Chisena and linebacker Jacoby Windmon. Chisena and Windmon were signed to the active roster on Tuesday after the Panthers placed linebackers Trevin Wallace and Claudin Cherelus on injured reserve.

Panthers place standout rookie on season-ending IR

The Panthers placed inside linebackers Trevin Wallace and Claudin Cherelus on injured reserve this afternoon.

The middle of the Carolina Panthers defense officially got a lot thinner on Tuesday.

As announced by the team this afternoon, inside linebackers Trevin Wallace (shoulder) and Claudin Cherelus (toe) have been placed on injured reserve. With only three games remaining and the Panthers eliminated from playoff contention, the moves now end their 2024 campaigns.

Wallace, a rookie, was selected by Carolina in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft. He’d take over the starting duties alongside Josey Jewell beginning in Week 5, after 10th-year veteran and team captain Shaq Thompson tore his Achilles tendon.

The 21-year-old appeared in 13 games this season. He amassed 64 total tackles, a sack, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Cherelus, who started in place of Wallace this past Sunday, recorded career-highs in defensive snaps (53) and tackles (nine) in the 30-14 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

To fill their voids on the roster, the Panthers signed wide receiver Dan Chisena and linebacker Jacoby Windmon from their practice squad.

Panthers elevate 2 players for tomorrow’s game against Eagles

The Panthers have elevated a WR and an OLB for tomorrow’s matchup against the Eagles.

The Carolina Panthers have brought up two practice-squad members for tomorrow’s matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

As announced this afternoon, wide receiver Dan Chisena and outside linebacker Jacoby Windmon will join the active roster for Week 14 as standard game day elevations.

Sunday will mark the third consecutive call-up for Chisena, who has played primarily on special teams in his appearances. The 6-foot-3, 203-pounder recorded nine snaps in the Week 12 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and 19 in last Sunday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Chisena signed to the Panthers’ practice squad on Oct. 16.

Windmon, who joined Carolina a day earlier than Chisena back on Oct. 15, has appeared in three games this season. The undrafted rookie has notched two tackles, one against the Washington Commanders in Week 7 and the other against the New Orleans Saints in Week 9.

He will provide some depth in the absence of starting outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, who was downgraded out of tomorrow’s game due to his knee injury.

Panthers announce 4 roster moves ahead of Week 13 matchup vs. Buccaneers

The Panthers have activated OLB Amaré Barno from the physically unable to perform list.

The Carolina Panthers made a handful of adjustments before their Week 13 clash with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

As announced on Saturday afternoon, the team has activated outside linebacker Amaré Barno from the physically unable to perform list. The third-year defender has not played since tearing his ACL in last season’s Week 16 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Barno was selected by the Panthers in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL draft. The Blythewood, S.C. native has since gone on to appear in 24 games, amassing 30 combined tackles (three for a loss) and 2.0 sacks.

To make room for Barno on the active roster, the Panthers waived outside linebacker Thomas Incoom. Incoom played in seven games for Carolina this season, with 156 of his 194 total snaps coming on special teams.

The Panthers also elevated wide receiver Dan Chisena and tight end Stephen Sullivan from the practice squad. They’ll provide some depth in the absences of rookie pass catchers Jalen Coker and Ja’Tavion Sanders, both of whom were ruled out from the contest on Friday.

Panthers announce handful of roster moves ahead of Week 12 matchup vs. Chiefs

The Panthers will not have RB Miles Sanders on the field for quite some time.

The Carolina Panthers made a handful of roster moves prior to their Week 12 matchup against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

As announced on Saturday afternoon, the team has placed running back Miles Sanders on injured reserve. The sixth-year veteran was carted off from the Week 10 win over the New York Giants with an ankle injury.

Sanders, in the No. 2 role behind starter Chuba Hubbard, has recorded 38 carries for 139 yards and one touchdown through 10 games in 2024. His average of 3.7 rushing yards per attempt currently stands as the second-lowest of his NFL career—only ahead of last season’s mark of 3.3.

With Sanders now out for at least the next four games, the Panthers will get to utilize second-round pick Jonathon Brooks—who is expected to make his pro debut on Sunday. The rookie back has been sidelined for over a year after tearing his ACL.

To fill Sanders’ vacancy on the 53-man roster, the Panthers signed wide receiver Deven Thompkins from the practice squad.

Carolina also elevated two practice squad members for tomorrow—wide receiver Dan Chisena and outside linebacker Kenny Dyson.

Panthers sign former Vikings WR to practice squad on Wednesday

The Panthers signed WR Dan Chisena to their practice squad on Wednesday.

The Carolina Panthers were a little busy before taking the practice field on Wednesday.

Along with officially declaring the returns of running back Jonathon Brooks, defensive lineman Jaden Cruemdy and safety Sam Franklin Jr., the team also announced that they’ve signed veteran wideout Dan Chisena to their practice squad.

A Paoli, Penn. native, Chisena played his college ball at nearby Penn State University from 2018 to 2019. He appeared in 14 games for the Nittany Lions, posting three catches for 66 yards.

The 6-foot-3, 203-pounder would then crack into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings in 2020. He played almost strictly as a special teamer from 2020 to 2022, with just 11 of his 507 snaps for the Vikings coming on offense.

Chisena has also picked up stops with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens. He was most recently with the Cardinals, who released him this past Friday to end his second stint in Arizona.

Marvin Harrison getting No. 18 causes trio of number changes for Cardinals

BJ Ojulari went from No. 18 to No. 9, Desmond Ridder went from No. 9 to No. 19 and Dan Chisena went from No. 19 to No. 17.

A week ago, the Arizona Cardinals’ first pick in the 2024 NFL draft, receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., didn’t have a jersey yet. Second-year linebacker had No. 18, backup quarterback Desmond Ridder had No. 9 and receiver Dan Chisena had No. 19.

Harrison, who wore No. 18 at Ohio State, will wear No. 18 for the Cardinals. Ojulari apparently was willing to give it up to Harrison, but that led to a trio of changes.

Ojulari now has No. 9, the number Ridder had. Ridder took No. 19 and Chisena, went from 19 to No. 17.

Ojulari will now get the cool single-digit number as a pass rusher. The interesting move is Ridder, who wore No. 9 when he played for the Atlanta Falcons and also in college at Cincinnati.

For Chisena, No. 17 is his third number with the team. He wore No. 16 when he played for the Cardinals late last season. He got No. 19 after he re-signed in the offseason following a postseason stint with the Baltimore Ravens. Now he has No. 17.

And it all happened so that Harrison, expected to be a star for Arizona, could wear No. 18.

Cardinals re-sign WR Dan Chisena for 2024

Chisena had two special teams tackles in four games for Arizona before playing two games with the Ravens in the postseason.

The Arizona Cardinals are bringing back a core special teams player they had late in the season. They announced that receiver Dan Chisena was signed ti a futures contract for 2024.

Chisena was on the Cardinals’ practice squad late in the season and was elevated to the active roster to play in the final three games. He appeared in four games total. He played one offensive snap in four games and 53 special teams snaps with a pair of tackles.

After the season, the Cardinals released Chisena before his contract expired, allowing him to sign with the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad. He played in both the Ravens’ postseason games.

Now he is set to spend at least the offseason with the Cardinals, hoping to impress enough to find a more permanent spot on the roster.
