Ohio State football recruiting scouting report: Damarion Witten

Ohio State football recruiting scouting report: Damarion Witten #GoBucks

Ohio State football had another dominant recruiting class and landed a consensus top-five class in the country. Once again, the class features serious star power and was able to snag some amazing talent on the offensive side of the ball including an intriguing homegrown tight end from the pipeline that is Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio.

Name: Damarion Witten

High School: Glenville (Cleveland, Ohio)

Height: 6 feet, 4 inches

Weight: 215 pounds

Position: Tight End

Strengths

Damarion Witten is less of a tight end and more of a big wide receiver, which makes sense considering his dad recently said Ohio State is starting Witten out at wide receiver. Whether he plays wide receiver or tight end, he has excellent receiving skills with an impressive catch radius and reliable hands. I hope Witten does play tight end though, because his physicality and aggressiveness could make him a great blocker.

NEXT … Weaknesses

Damarion Witten’s father confirms which position he’ll begin with at Ohio State

Interesting news for the incoming pass catcher. #GoBucks

When Ohio State football got a commitment from Glenville tight end [autotag]Damarion Witten[/autotag], it was seen as a big recruiting get.

Well, it looks like Witten won’t start his career as a tight end, instead he will start as wide receiver as his father confirmed the news on social media. I called him the best pass-catching tight end prospect that the Buckeyes have signed in years, due to his elite ability.

It makes sense to start Witten there, as the tight end room is fairly deep and the reps for him won’t be available early in his career. It’s tough to say the same about the wide receiver room, but since they play more than just one at a time, the opportunity to make an impact earlier is there.

Regardless of which position Witten starts, or ends his career at, he is expected to make a splash for the Buckeyes. It might just be a matter of when.

Ohio State commit named U.S. Army Bowl MVP

What a game from the OSU tight end commit. #GoBucks

Barring too many surprises when the early signing period opens on Wednesday, the Ohio State football program is set to sign another stellar recruiting class — most likely be another top five one.

While there are plenty of young men we’ll be hearing about in the not-too-distant future donning the scarlet and gray, it’s always nice to get a peek at what some of these high school guys can do when dropped into situations where they are going against similar talent.

We had one such case on Monday night when Ohio State’s four-star tight end commit, Damarion Witten, took part in the U.S. Army Bowl. Ranked as the No. 28 tight end and No. 454 recruit overall in the country according to the 247Sports composite, Witten committed to Ohio State on June 24.

Though his team lost rather convincingly, 62-37, Witten had quite the game, catching four passes for 96 yards and three touchdowns. It was enough for him to be named bowl MVP.

Three Ohio State commits played in Monday night’s game, but others are scheduled to suit up in two other All-American bowls: the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, on Jan. 6, and the Under Armour All-American Bowl set to take place in Orlando, Florida, on Jan. 3.

Watch: Ohio State football commits in action during opening week

Multiple future Buckeyes had standout performances #GoBucks

This past weekend was the beginning of high school football and our first glimpse at Ohio State football commitments back in action.

We already highlighted 2026 wide receiver commit Chris Henry Jr., but that was because he played on Thursday when not many other teams were on the gridiron. It wasn’t just Henry Jr. that got some earlier love, 2024 quarterback Air Noland was on the national spotlight and helped lead his team to a huge season opening win.

The majority of the rest of the class got their seasons started on Friday and Saturday and here are some of the top performances from Ohio State commits.

Ohio State 2024 commit wins MVP of Deshaun Watson 7-on-7 tournament

Are you surprised? I’m not #GoBucks

The first Deshaun Watson 7-on-7 tournament was held in Akron and [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] was well represented.

Ohio State cornerback commit, [autotag]Bryce West,[/autotag] was on hand along with priority cornerback target, [autotag]Aaron Scott[/autotag]. The uncommitted prospect was seen wearing Michigan gear, but he wasn’t the star of the show.

Buckeye tight end commitment, [autotag]Damarion Witten[/autotag]’s Glenville team didn’t end up winning the tournament, Hoban, the host did, but the 6-foot, 2-inch, 215-pound future Ohio State star was named MVP.

This is not at all surprising, especially after watching his junior year highlights. Witten might be the best receiving tight end prospect to enter the program in years and this honor backs that up.

Witten is ranked as the No. 18 tight end and 350th overall prospect according to 247Sports Composite rankings, but if he continues to play like he did on Tuesday, he is going to end up ranked much higher.

Scout’s view: Ohio State’s newest commit, 2024 tight end Damarion Witten

The Buckeyes got a good one in Witten #GoBucks

The Cleveland Glenville to [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] pipeline proved to be as strong as ever this weekend.

Not only did elite corner Bryce West commit to the Buckeyes, his teammate tight end, [autotag]Damarion Witten,[/autotag] did so just a day later. Both Tarblooders were on their official visits, so it was icing on the cake for the coaching staff.

Witten is a great prospect, ranking as the No. 19 tight end and 346th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Watching the 6-foot, 4-inch, 210 pounder’s junior highlight film showed exactly why the Buckeyes wanted him so badly. Find out below what qualities you will see when Witten arrives in Columbus to don the Scarlet and Gray.

Kentucky coach seemingly throws shade at recruit after Ohio State commitment

Cryptic tweets thrown at high school kids by an adult coach is never a good look. #GoBucks

It was a good weekend for Ohio State football. Hours after receiving a commitment from four-star, in-state cornerback Bryce West, the Buckeyes gained more good news when West’s high school teammate, Damarion Witten, committed to the Buckeyes.

Witten is a four-star prospect ranked 14th among tight ends in the country and 347th overall in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports composite. He was considered an OSU lean for some time, but Kentucky had picked up  momentum late. The Wildcats even drew a crystal ball prediction for Witten to land in Lexington.

However, when that didn’t work out, UK tight ends coach, Vince Marrow, seemed to throw shade in Witten’s direction. Marrow went to Twitter to share his thoughts saying he got the “target he wanted.”

Marrow was referring to Willie Rodriguez, a three-star prospect who committed to Kentucky earlier in the week. While Marrow may have wanted Rodriguez, he was also hoping to land Witten.

Rodriguez may have a bit more size right now, but he doesn’t have the playmaking ability of Witten. Will Witten need to bulk up before being able to contribute? Absolutely, Mickey Marotti is more than capable of getting the young man to the size he needs to play in the Big Ten.

Witten’s response? Simple and to the point.

And Buckeye Nation woke up happy to have Witten in Scarlet and Gray.

BOOM! Ohio State lands four-star tight end for the 2024 class

Another big one out of this massive recruiting weekend for Ohio State! #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program is on a roll with recruiting. Hours after receiving a commitment from four-star in-state cornerback Bryce West, the Buckeyes received more good news with the commitment of four-star tight end Damarion Witten.

Witten, out of the same high school as West (Cleveland Glenville), is ranked the No. 14 tight end in the country and 347th overall prospect in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports composite. At 6 feet, 4 inches and 215 pounds, he had been thought to be an OSU lean, and he picked the scarlet and gray over Texas, Tennessee, Michigan State, Michigan and others.

Witten is the 16th commitment in the 2024 class for Ohio State, one that continues to gain momentum as Ryan Day and company look to round out what should be another top-five class.

The Buckeyes have been hosting several high-profile prospects this weekend and the latest two pledges have come as a result. Stay tuned because there could be more on the way.

Texas among top five schools for four-star TE Damarion Witten

The 6-foot-4 tight end is one of the top recruits in Ohio for 2024.

Four-star tight end Damarion Witten announced the final five schools left in his recruitment on Tuesday. Continue reading “Texas among top five schools for four-star TE Damarion Witten”

4-star TE Damarion Witten names the Ducks in his top five

Damarion Witten named the Ducks as one of his top schools. Check out the 4-star TE’s recruiting profile:

With official visit season a few weeks away, high school football stars across the country are continuing to name their top schools. In the 2024 recruiting season, the Oregon Ducks have already secured a large load of commitments, and plenty of players have named the Ducks as a finalist. The newest recruit to do so is 4-star TE, Damarion Witten.

Witten is from Cleveland, Ohio, so it’s no surprise that the Ohio State Buckeyes are among his top schools. Multiple 247Sports experts have released crystal ball predictions of Witten to the Buckeyes, but Witten has still yet to announce his commitment.

Early in the spring, it was clear that Oregon had a lack of depth at the TE position, especially after Terrance Ferguson’s injury. Freshman Kenyon Sadiq was impressive in the Ducks’ spring game, but the addition of a TE like Witten would help solidify Oregon’s TE depth chart.
