DeMarvion Overshown lives his dream in playing for Cowboys, Longhorns

“You have two dreams if you play football at a young age: Play for the Texas Longhorns or the Dallas Cowboys.”

Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is living the dream. The former Longhorns standout and first team all-conference selection can now check playing for his childhood dream teams off his bucket list.

Overshown discussed his football career with Dallas media after being drafted by the Cowboys.

“It’s special. Especially when you think back to when you were a little boy. You have two dreams if you play football at a young age. It’s to either play for the Texas Longhorns or play for the Dallas Cowboys. And I got to do both. So it’s a blessing. … I can’t stop smiling about it. And even when people ask me about it and I say I’m a Dallas Cowboy… it’s crazy, because that’s all I dreamed of being.”

While the talented player is fortunate to play for his top two teams, Overshown has earned each honor he’s been given.

The former five-star prospect was seemingly everything his team needed at linebacker last season. Now, he’ll look to bring that level of dependability to the Cowboys.

Report: Cowboys highly interested in Texas RB Bijan Robinson

The Dallas Cowboys are giving significant consideration to Bijan Robinson.

Texas running back Bijan Robinson might stay in the same state after all. On Monday we learned that the Dallas Cowboys would welcome the big-time prospect should he fall to them or a couple picks before.

Dallas Cowboys writer Patrik Walker reported that the team would consider drafting him should they get the opportunity.

“If Bijan Robinson falls to near the Cowboys, he becomes a major consideration for Dallas, (per Stephen Jones),” Walker wrote. “Question then becomes how far is close enough to get on the phone?”

That’s the question many are asking about the rare talent. Some consider him reminiscent of Detroit Lions and Oklahoma State great Barry Sanders. In recent days we learned that Sanders views the great player in high esteem.

Walker shared his thoughts on when Robinson would be drafted, stating, “19th-overall is when you get on the horn and try to go get him … he’s likely gone no later than 15, but probably top 10.”

Bijan has demonstrated his value. We’ll continue to follow which NFL teams are looking to bring him in heading up to the draft.

WATCH: Bijan Robinson channels Barry Sanders on this run

Former NFL scout compares Bijan Robinson to Barry Sanders.

Bijan Robinson is not just any running back. He has the ability to become an all-time NFL great.

Former NFL scout Bryan Broaddus was reminded of another elite back watching Robinson play. He had the following to say about Bijan earlier this month.

He’s one of the best players in the country regardless of position. I had visions of Barry Sanders watching him play.

Broaddus’ comparison is high praise, but fits what we have seen from the special runner. Robinson’s innate ability to find openings that are not apparent to the average back has impressed since his freshman season.

The play below encapsulates what Broaddus likely sees from the Texas running back. Baylor defensive tackle Siaki Ika makes an incredible maneuver to get into the backfield. Bijan nullifies the move by countering with impressive footwork of his own.

In general, it’s true that most any starting caliber running back is as good as another in the NFL. But, as indicated by the above run, Bijan Robinson is on a tier of his own.

Texas RB Bijan Robinson visits the Dallas Cowboys

Is Bijan the next great Dallas Cowboys running back?

Bijan Robinson could make the move from the premier college football team in Texas to the state’s top professional team. The Dallas Cowboys are taking a close look at the generational running back.

Robinson has put up impressive numbers for the Longhorns this season. The Texas workhorse has taken 258 carries for 1,580 yards, 18 rushing touchdowns and 6.1 yards per carry.

Bijan has been an equally dynamic receiver in burnt orange. Robinson has 19 receptions for 314 yards and 16.5 yards per reception.

It’s no secret Dallas could be in the market for a running back. Ezekiel Elliott appears to be seeing his role slowly diminish while Tony Pollard will likely see free agency soon.

Elliott was seen as one of many cautionary tales of NFL franchises overvaluing the running back position. Nevertheless, Bijan Robinson’s skill set could make each NFL team reconsider its running back philosophy.

Here’s how social media is taking the Bijan Robinson news.

Kyler Murray, CeeDee Lamb among CBS Sports best players under 25

Sooners greats Kyler Murray and CeeDee Lamb among CBS Sports top 25 players under 25.

The Oklahoma Sooners have some talented players playing in the NFL. On the offensive side of the ball, OU has been well-represented over the last several years. With youth being the name of the game in the National Football League, CBS Sports took a look at the top 25 players under 25 and two former Sooners greats makes the list; [autotag]CeeDee Lamb[/autotag] and [autotag]Kyler Murray[/autotag].

Lamb came in at No. 24 and was the sixth wide receiver on the list behind A.J. Brown, D.K. Metcalf, Justin Jefferson, and Ja’Marr Chase.

Lamb’s been a productive player for the Dallas Cowboys and someone America’s Team feels great about. This offseason they traded Amari Cooper to the Browns and Lamb will take on the role of the No. 1 WR for Dallas.

He’s coming off of an 1,100-yard season and is still an ascending player. His 2021 could have been even better but had some drops that took away from big plays.

Playing in a stacked receivers room alongside Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup, he’s still produced like a star-in-the-making, totaling 2,037 yards and 11 scores in two years. With Cooper gone, he’s poised to see an even bigger share of Dak Prescott’sthrows as the explosive counterpart to Gallup and Dalton Schultz. – Cody Benjamin, CBS Sports

Lamb will get plenty of opportunities in 2022 to have a big season in the Dallas Cowboys high-scoring offense.

Coming in at No. 8 is Kyler Murray, who’s been the talk of the town this offseason as he and the Cardinals have been involved in contract negotiations.

Murray’s a bit of a difficult code to crack. On one hand, he’s ended all three NFL seasons either hurt or in a slump, has overseen a combined Cardinals record of 22-23-1 and is all but demanding a new deal before a single promising playoff game in Arizona. On the other, he’s easily a top-10 dual threat when at the height of his game, with a fiery arm and unending elusiveness. Odds are, whether in Arizona or elsewhere, his talent will keep him in the big-game conversation for longer than most QBs. – Benjamin, CBS Sports

Murray’s NFL career has had some great moments. He’s been an electrifying player with his arm and his legs and has helped turn the Cardinals into a playoff contender. It hasn’t always been smooth for the former Heisman winner, but a playoff appearance has Murray’s trajectory heading upward.

3 former Sooners stand out in Week 10 NFL action

Several former Sooners had stand out performances in week 10 NFL action.

While the current Sooners spent Sunday reflecting and stewing after their loss to the Baylor Bears, Sooners of the past took the field on Sunday as they look to help their professional teams push for potential playoff berths.

CeeDee Lamb, WR Dallas Cowboys

CeeDee Lamb was at the top of his game on Sunday. For his Cowboys, they had to hear for a week that maybe they were a fraudulent team. That perhaps their blowout loss to the Denver Broncos was a “blueprint” on how to beat them. Well, Lamb and the rest of his Cowboys proved that simply was not the case.

The second-year star receiver totaled six catches for 94 yards and two touchdowns, finishing as Dallas’ leading receiver amid the 43-3 dismantling at AT&T Stadium. Lamb also joined a really solid group of Cowboys receivers with his first touchdown of the day.

Lamb didn’t even see the fourth quarter and that worked out perfectly as he was dealing with a right arm contusion he sustained earlier in the game.

It’s nothing to be worried about as he laughed off any speculation post-game. He and his fellow teammates travel to Kansas City to play former Oklahoma teammate Creed Humphrey and the Kansas city Cheifs next week.

Rhamondre Stevenson, RB, New England Patriots

It’s probably safe to say that Rhamondre Stevenson has found his footing in the NFL. After not practicing all week leading up to the game, Stevenson answered the call as the New England Patriots called on the former Sooner to be the starting running back in the absence of Damien Harris.

In 37 snaps, Stevenson ran the ball 20 times for 100 yards and two rushing touchdowns while also catching four passes for 14 yards.

The Cleveland Browns run defense had played well before this game, so it honestly makes Stevenson’s day more impressive.

Stevenson hopefully showed future Hall of Fame head coach Bill Belichick that he deserves more snaps than just a few to spell Harris when the Patriots starting running back returns.

Jalen Hurts, QB, Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles came into the week fresh off a tough loss to the San Diego Chargers. However, Jalen Hurts’ play had been on an upward trajectory.

On Sunday, he completed 16 of 23 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns, while running 14 times for 53 yards.

The Eagles would won 30-13, against the same Denver Broncos that beat one of the best teams in the league on their home field; the Dallas Cowboys. Hurts is still trying to prove he is the Eagles quarterback of the future and stacking performances like this together can go a long way in proving that.

Week 11 of the NFL season should provide a lot of opportunities for the Sunday Sooners. As previously mentioned the Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb travel to Kansas City to play in America’s Game of the Week against Creed Humphrey and the Chiefs.

Meanwhile, the Bengals get back in action after their bye week which means more action for Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine.

Tre Brown will likely be on the field as the Seattle Seahawks face off against the Kyler Murray led Arizona Cardinals. Brown made a few plays in the Seahawks loss to the Green Bay packers this week and seems to be acclimating well to the professional game. We’ll be sure to cover any and all Sooner vs. Sooner content here on Sooners Wire.

Connor Williams getting practice time at center for the Cowboys

According to those in Oxnard, CA watching Cowboys training camp, former Texas offensive linemen Connor Williams has been getting snaps as the backup center.

Outside of Dak Prescott’s injury, nothing may have hampered the Dallas Cowboys’ 2020 season more than the offensive line play. A plethora of injuries and inconsistencies derailed a group Jerry Jones has put 17.2% of his cap space into.

With Joe Looney leaving the franchise via free agency, center has become a position of question for the Cowboys. Tyler Biadasz is in line to become the full-time starter but without any protection behind him.

According to those in Oxnard, CA watching Cowboys training camp, former Texas offensive linemen Connor Williams has been getting snaps as the backup center. He already slots in as the starting left guard but if Biadasz goes down with an injury, Williams will need to be prepared.

Playing center is something new to Williams and after talking to the media on Sunday, he knows he needs to be ready in case called upon.

“Y’all all know how the O-Line game goes. Guy goes down every now and then, and you never make it through a whole season healthy,” Williams said after Sunday’s practice. “It’s definitely nice to be able to move pieces in and out and have versatility. Hopefully, I never have to play center this year, but I may have to.”

After spending time at left tackle in Austin, Williams immediately transitioned to left guard when drafted by Dallas. He played 100% of the offensive snaps last season, trying his best to protect whoever was lined up at quarterback.

Former LSU Tiger La’el Collins appears to be a full go for training camp

Former LSU Tiger and current Dallas Cowboys OT La’el Collins appears to be a full go for training camp.

It has been over a year since fans have seen former LSU Tigers offensive lineman La’el Collins on the football field. Following the 2015 NFL draft, Collins signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent.

He has since played in 62 games and started all but one of those games. He made the switch to left guard as a rookie before moving back to offensive tackle prior to the 2017 season. He played and started 47 of a possible 48 games from 2017-2019.

Collins missed all of last season due to a hip injury that eventually required surgery. The team missed his presence on the offensive line while having to rely on an undrafted free agent from Texas Tech, Terrence Steele. However, there is optimism surrounding Collins as the preseason is fast approaching.

According to Brianna Dix of Sooners Wire and D210TV, the former LSU Tiger will not see a limited workload in Oxnard, California, for the Dallas Cowboys training camp. The first opportunity to see him back on the field will be against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Canton, Ohio, for the annual Hall of Fame game.

Collins will be joined by the Cowboys’ fourth-round pick, Jabril Cox, on the roster. When the Hall of Fame game approaches, there will be three former Tigers on the field with Trai Turner representing the Steelers.

Connor Williams feeling great, set to start at left guard for Dallas Cowboys

Connor Williams had a tough offseason, dealing with a torn ACL. Now, he is back in practice and is in a position to become the starting LG.

Connor Williams had a tough offseason, dealing with a torn ACL he suffered on Thanksgiving Day against the Buffalo Bills. The former Longhorn spent the spring rehabbing and trying to prepare for the 2020 season.

Williams spoke with the media to discuss his journey back to the field.

“Obviously, it was a very long road,” Williams said on Monday. “First ACL and it’s a huge injury, so I didn’t really know what to expect at first. But slowly day by day, head down, grinded.”

“I honestly feel really great right now and I feel better where I left off last year.”

Now, not only is he is back in practice for the Dallas Cowboys but he is in position to become the team’s starting left guard again. According to Bryan Broaddus of 105.3 The Fan, the Cowboys are going to be giving veteran players the chance to start on the offensive line.

Williams was a second-round draft pick of Dallas in the 2018 NFL Draft. Playing tackle for Texas, the Cowboys have moved him inside to the guard position. In his 24 career games, Williams has 21 starts, including all 11 games he played in last season.

After veteran center Travis Fredrick retired this offseason, the Cowboys interior offensive linemen have been trying to earn spots.

Williams has been battling Connor McGovern, the second-year lineman out of Penn State. Whoever wins the job will get to play alongside future Hall of Famer Tyron Smith.

“I love the progress that we’re making. I think we’re looking great as an offensive line,” Williams said. “I think we’re all coming together. I think we’re making each other better. I think we’re pushing each other, and I’m very excited where we’re headed.”

Dallas will open their 2020 season against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 13. If Williams can stay healthy and continue to compete in practice, he will have the starting left guard sport locked down for the entire season.

With No Randall Cobb, Duvernay to the Dallas Cowboys Could Make Sense

After one season with the Cowboys, WR Randall Cobb has moved on. To replace him, Dallas should look at Devin Duvernay in this year’s draft.

After one season with the Dallas Cowboys, wide receiver Randall Cobb has moved on. Signing a three-year deal with the Houston Texans worth $27 million, Cobb is on to his third career team after also spending eight seasons in Green Bay with the Packers.

For Dallas, Cobb was the replacement for Cole Beasley. Both receivers were smaller, more agile players who would line up in the slot and be reliable targets. Since Dak Prescott took over as the starting quarterback in 2016, Beasley and Cobb caught nearly 70% of all passes thrown towards them.

Now, new head coach Mike McCarthy will be looking for a replacement to Cobb and give Prescott another slot receiver to rely on. With former Texas wide receiver Devin Duvernay more than likely available in the later rounds of this year’s NFL Draft, he would make perfect sense in the Cowboys’ offense.

Firstly, from a size comparison, the two are eerily similar. Cobb comes in at 5 feet 10 inches and 192 pounds, while Duvernay is 5 feet 11 inches and 210 pounds. The former Longhorn is slightly bigger, but still fits the role of a typical slot wide receiver in the NFL.

Looking at their combine numbers, Duvernay has better numbers across the board than Cobb. Speed is an important factor, with Duvernay running a 4.39 40-yard dash, while Cobb ran a 4.46 out of college. The Longhorn also has bigger hands, a higher vertical jump, a faster 20-yard shuffle, and a longer broad jump.

What Duvernay does well on the field is catch passes and make people miss. In 2019, Duvernay had 106 receptions, most in the Big 12 and third-most in the entire country. In his junior season in 2018, Duvernay had 41 catches, including no drops.

Having at least six catches in all but one game last season (Alamo Bowl against Utah), Duvernay caught 10 or more passes against LSU, Oklahoma State, and Baylor. Anything quarterback Sam Ehlinger threw at him, Duvernay caught.

According to PFF College, nobody had more broken tackles when thrown a screen pass than Duvernay. His quickness and his shiftiness are what make him such an exciting prospect to many NFL teams.

Wide receiver is a glaring hole for the Cowboys and filling it through the Draft would be the smart route. Needing to spend early-round picks on other positions of need, Duvernay will be sitting there for Jerry Jones to take in the later rounds.

If he does end up in Dallas, he would be linking up with Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, Blake Jarwin, and Ezekiel Elliot as targets for Prescott. For a Cowboys offense that was ranked No. 1 last season, Duvernay could come in and make them even more prolific.
