5 realistic trade targets for Patriots on deadline day

Here are five realistic trade options for the Patriots.

We could be hours, minutes or even seconds away from finding out if the New England Patriots will be buyers or sellers by the 4 p.m. ET trade deadline on Tuesday.

There’s obviously a greater chance of the team selling considering there is no likely path for them to the playoffs this season. They’ve been ravaged with injuries in arguably the toughest division in football.

The Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets could all be vying for a spot in the playoffs, while the Patriots look on with a pitiful 2-6 record. But don’t sleep on the possibility of them becoming buyers, either.

Coach Bill Belichick isn’t the type to tank an entire season away, and he’ll be looking to rack up as many wins as possible before the curtain closes on 2023.

Here are five realistic trade options for the Patriots by the deadline:

Cordarrelle Patterson by the numbers against Tennessee

Former Vol Cordarrelle Patterson by the numbers against Tennessee.

Tennessee (3-4) defeated Atlanta (4-4), 28-23, Sunday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Former Vol Cordarrelle Patterson totaled seven rushing yards on two attempts. He also returned one kickoff for 29 yards.

Patterson has recorded 63 rushing yards on 13 attempts this season, while totaling two receptions for 13 yards.

Patterson played at Tennessee in 2012 under head coach Derek Dooley after transferring from Hutchison Community College in Hutchison, Kansas.

He was a first-round pick by Minnesota in the 2013 NFL draft. He was selected with the No. 29 overall pick.

Patterson, also a wide receiver in his professional career, has played for the Vikings (2013-16), Raiders (2017), New England (2018), Chicago (2019-20) and the Falcons.

Atlanta next plays Sunday, hosting Minnesota. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. EDT at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

Jamal Agnew inactive for Jaguars, Cordarrelle Patterson active

With Jamal Agnew ruled out, sixth-round rookie Parker Washington is set to make his NFL debut.

Wide receiver and return specialist Jamal Agnew is inactive Sunday with a quad injury, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced Sunday. Making his NFL debut and presumably taking over kick and punt return duties will be sixth-round rookie Parker Washington.

On Friday, the Jaguars ruled out three players — Zay Jones, Devin Lloyd, and Antonio Johnson — and listed Agnew as questionable. The fifth inactive player for Jacksonville is rookie wide receiver Elijah Cooks, who has now been a healthy scratch in each of the first four weeks.

For the Atlanta Falcons, the most notable news from the list of inactives is a player who wasn’t listed: Cordarrelle Patterson.

Patterson led Atlanta in touchdowns last season with eight (all rushing), but missed the first three games of 2023 with a thigh injury. The Falcons officially list the wide receiver/running back as a “Joker” in their offense.

Wide receiver Josh Ali is the only player for the Falcons who is missing the game Sunday due to an injury.

The Falcons have listed Cordarrelle Patterson on their depth chart as … Joker?

Here. We. Go.

Cordarrelle Patterson has always been somewhat of an NFL unicorn in his career.

He’s been a wide receiver, a returner and a running back, sometimes all in the same game. And it’s worked for the Atlanta Falcons veteran.

It was assumed that Patterson would back up Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier at RB, but the first Falcons depth chart of the season has him listed as … “J.”

Apparently, that stands for “Joker,” as Patterson himself alluded to on Twitter. It was also clarified by Arthur Smith as the team’s 2023 season is set to begin.

I kind of wish this would become a thing in the NFL more:

Madden NFL 24 ratings for the Detroit Lions running backs

The initial rating for 1st round rookie Jahmyr Gibbs is probably lower than most expected it to be

It’s rare for a rookie running back to have a higher overall rating compared to an established veteran running back. It remains to be true for Madden ’24 this year.

When looking at rookie running backs for the video game, the top two running backs taken in the 2023 NFL Draft were Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs. For Robinson, he’s rated lower than his Atlanta Falcons teammate Cordarrelle Patterson. Meanwhile, Gibbs is rated lower than his Lions teammate David Montgomery.

Cordarelle Patterson is rated an 85 overall while Bijan Robinson is rated an 81 overall for the Falcons. For Detroit, the Madden franchise has David Montgomery rated an 82 overall and Jahmyr Gibbs is rated a 77 overall.

Oddly enough, David Montgomery has a higher catch rating than Jahmyr Gibbs. Montgomery has 77 catch rating and Gibbs has a 72 catch rating. While this is the initial ratings for the games release, they do plenty of roster updates and that includes increasing or decreasing the ratings of every player across the league. Here’s the overall ratings for the Lions running backs:

Fortunately, you’ll be able to manage the Lions roster however you want when you play the game. Rest assure that I’ll be playing Gibbs on 3rd down more frequently than what the game might suggest.

Cordarrelle Patterson changes profile picture to DeAndre Hopkins

#Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson changed his profile picture to a photo of free-agent WR DeAndre Hopkins

The Arizona Cardinals shocked the NFL on Friday when they released All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. While the writing was on the wall regarding Hopkins’ future in Arizona, the fact that he was outright released prior to June 1 is something few saw coming.

Hopkins will be highly sought after as a free agent and it didn’t take long for Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson to get back to work recruiting. Patterson changed his profile picture on Twitter to a photo of Hopkins.

Hopkins, 30, has been an absolute stud for the majority of his pro career. Originally selected by the Texans in the first round of the 2013 draft, Hopkins has racked up 853 catches, 11,298 receiving yards and 71 touchdowns over 10 seasons.

Atlanta currently has over $10 million in cap space and a need for a quality No. 2 wide receiver. Here’s how Falcons fans reacted to Patterson’s latest free-agent pitch on Twitter.

Exploring how rookies may negatively impact veterans in fantasy football.

While one could stretch out the meaning of which veterans are affected by the 2023 NFL Draft in a multitude of ways, the focus here will be on playing time and/or utilization potential among conventional fantasy football assets.

Cordarrelle Patterson asks fans who they want Falcons to draft

#Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson asked the fans who they want Atlanta to take in the 2023 NFL draft

The 2023 NFL draft kicks off in 24 hours and both the fans and players alike are wondering what their teams will do. The Atlanta Falcons are entering their second consecutive draft with the No. 8 overall pick, but will they stay there?

During Tuesday’s pre-draft press conference, Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot said the team was open to moving up or down. While this isn’t a new sentiment from Fontenot, this year it does feel like Atlanta could do pretty much anything.

Running back Cordarrelle Patterson asked the fans who they wanted to see the team draft on Twitter Wednesday evening. Here’s what Falcons fans had to say.

The last 11 players selected with the No. 29 overall pick may help forecast what’s in store for the New Orleans Saints, assuming they stay put:

If the New Orleans Saints stay put in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft, they’ll be picking at No. 29 overall. Here’s a quick look at the last eleven players taken at that slot:

10 worst Vikings draft picks since 2000

The Minnesota Vikings have had some rough draft picks. @TheRealForno highlighted the 10 worst draft picks in team history.

The Minnesota Vikings are entering the 2023 NFL draft hoping to grow their team for the future. Each year, it’s a time of hope and projecting out the future of your team.

There are plenty of positives with past Vikings drafts. They have drafted multiple Hall of Fame players and have seen a lot of success in the later rounds.

Despite all the success they have had in the draft, not everything is sunshine and rainbows. There have been plenty of misses and I highlighted the 10 biggest ones since 2000.
