ESPN College GameDay coming to Minneapolis for Michigan-Minnesota matchup

ESPN has chosen the Michigan football season opener for College GameDay. Here’s how Michigan has fared historically with the show in town.

[jwplayer 7werh9Jm-XNcErKyb]

Not only is Michigan playing in primetime to open up the 2020 season for the third consecutive year, some familiar faces are going to be in town for the game.

The Wolverines have been something of a mainstay on ESPN College GameDay, especially when they’ve played Ohio State, traveled to Penn State, the 2018 home game against Wisconsin or the season opener at Notre Dame, also in 2018.

Again, the pregame show will be on the campus of the team that the maize and blue are set to play, as ESPN College GameDay announced that it’s headed to Minneapolis for the Oct. 24 showdown between Michigan and Minnesota.

This seemed to be all but a formality that it would be announced, as both teams are ranked and the matchup is the ABC primetime game. With Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit on the call, given the coronavirus pandemic, wherever the primetime game is has been where College GameDay has been.

Now, it’s set, and the Wolverines better hope they put on a better performance than some of the other recent appearances by ESPN’s flagship program. Michigan is 1-7 when College GameDay is on campus of its game, with the sole win coming in 2018 as it hosted Wisconsin. This is the 32nd appearance for the maize and blue with College GameDay in town, and Michigan has an overall record of 15-16 in its 31 previous games in which ESPN’s popular show was in town.

The show is set to begin at 9 a.m. EDT on ESPN on Oct. 24, while the game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. EDT on ABC.

College Gameday crew picks winner of Alabama-Georgia game

The College GameDay crew made their picks for the upcoming Alabama-Georgia game on Saturday night.

The crew at College GameDay are in Tuscaloosa (Ala.) for the matchup of the weekend. The Alabama Crimson Tide, ranked No. 2 in the country, is set to take on No. 3 Georgia at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Alabama is currently a 5.5-point favorite, but that line has moved back and forth quite a bit with the uncertainty surrounding coach Nick Saban’s status heading into the game.

This matchup is set up to be another classic. But the Gameday crew was pretty unified in who they thought would win. Former Alabama star running back Derrick Henry was the guest picker.

Who are those selections.

Desmond Howard: Alabama

Lee Corso: Alabama

Kirk Herbstreit: Georgia

Derrick Henry: Alabama

David Pollack: Alabama

College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for Georgia vs. Alabama

Lee Corso picked Alabama to beat Georgia while atop a giant elephant.

No. 2 Alabama will host No. 3 Georgia on Saturday night in the college football game of the week, and the Crimson Tide are hopeful that a negative COVID-19 test will allow Nick Saban to coach from the sideline.

Titans running back and former Crimson Tide great Derrick Henry was the ESPN College GameDay guest picker this week, and backed Najee Harris to have a big day in the receiving game to lead Alabama to a win.

Lee Corso, from his home in Orlando, got to live out a dream by picking Alabama to win from atop a giant elephant. Kirk Herbstreit said that Corso once had a live elephant lined up for the show to pick Alabama, but he wasn’t allowed to get on it.

Corso also picked UCF over Memphis, Virginia Tech over Boston College, Ole Miss over Arkansas, Tennesse over Kentucky, South Carolina over Auburn, and Wisconsin over Illinois.

Desmond Howard believes Nick Saban will be on the sidelines this Saturday

College GameDay’s Desmond Howard believes that Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban will be on the field for their matchup with UGA.

College GameDay’s Desmond Howard believes that Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban will be on the sidelines for his team’s game against the Georgia Bulldogs this Saturday. Nick Saban, who has tested positive for COVID-19, is currently coaching the Crimson Tide remotely.

Desmond Howard did not cite a reason for Nick Saban being able to coach from the field. If Saban’s test was a false positive, then it is possible that he’d be able to return. He’d have to pass several more tests to confirm that his original test was a false positive.

Nick Saban could theoretically wear a mask and social distance from his team and not transmit the virus, but that would be risky for student athletes and may go against established protocol. The Alabama head coach is asymptomatic.

Desmond Howard, a former Michigan Wolverines player, famously won the Heisman Trophy in 1991. Howard has won a Super Bowl MVP award as well.

Here’s his Tweet where he stated his prediction:

It is hard to imagine Alabama football without Nick Saban on the sidelines. Nick Saban began his Alabama coaching career in 2007 and has helped the Crimson Tide establish a dynasty.

We remain skeptical that Saban will be able to coach in the game. Howard’s hypothesis seems more like a conspiracy than a reality for the time being. Still, Desmond Howard could have an inside scoop about the Crimson Tide head coch.

Saban’s not allowed virtual communication with the team either. Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will be the interim coach against No. 3 ranked Georgia.

College GameDay announces Oct. 17 location

College GameDay has announced its location for the Oct. 17 weekend. It will be hosted in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for Georgia at Alabama.

College GameDay has announced its location for the Oct. 17 weekend. ESPN’s flagship college football preview show will be held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Saturday morning. They will be previewing the top five battle between the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide.

GameDay is hosted by Kirk Herbstreit, David Pollack, a special guest, and more in a socially distanced outdoor studio. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, no fans can attend the event.

This past week the GameDay crew visited the Miami Hurricanes at Clemson Tigers game. Clemson dominated Miami in a 42-17 victory.

Despite the circumstances, there’s virtual guests, fans, and more for GameDay. The experience on TV is almost the same. Virtual fans can still bring signs as well.

GameDay will cover the Georgia Bulldogs for the second time this season. The crew also covered the Georgia win over Auburn earlier in the season.

This past week, Alabama beat Ole Miss in a shootout and Georgia dominated Tennessee with an impressive second half performance. Will we get another classic Georgia versus Alabama game?

Lee Corso told the story of how he started wearing mascot headgear on College Gameday

Who knew?

College Gameday has become a household staple on Saturdays and part of that is because of Lee Corso.

Corso has been a fan favorite analyst for over two decades now and part of the reason for that is because he’s so fun on set. No one else is putting on college mascot headgear to make their picks.

He’s been doing that for 24 years now and fans have absolutely loved it through the years. It’s become a tradition, of sorts, on Saturdays for college football fans.

But, for newer fans, it’s never really been clear how this all started. It’s just always been a thing. On Saturday, though, Corso explained how his headgear schtick came to be.

24 years ago, Corso says was picking Ohio State in a game and came up with the idea when he saw the team’s mascot, Brutus. He explains the rest here.

“One Friday, I was on the set with Kirk. And Brutus walked by. I said to Kirk ‘You know what? If I put that head on, everybody will know I picked Ohio State. I won’t have to say a word.’ I asked Kirk ‘Do you think you could get me that Brutus head?’ He said ‘I think Alison, my fiancĂ©, could get it for us,’.”

There you have it, folks.

College GameDay: Lee Corso’s headgear pick for Miami-Clemson

Lee Corso made Sebastian the Ibis very sad with his GameDay pick.

Clemson has been unbeatable in the ACC in recent years, but the Tigers will face one of their toughest tests of the year in Death Valley on Saturday night. No. 7 Miami is 3-0 on the season, but enters the game as 15-point underdogs against Trevor Lawrence.

Lee Corso had Sebastian the Ibis on his backyard GameDay set at his home in Orlando, and he crushed the mascot’s spirit by picking the Tigers to win at home.

Corso also picked Virginia over NC State, Boston College over Pitt, Virginia Tech over North Carolina, Iowa State over Texas Tech, Notre Dame over Florida State, TCU over Kansas State, Texas over Oklahoma, Auburn over Arkansas, Alabama over Ole Miss, Georgia over Tennessee and Florida over Texas A&M.

College Gameday is headed back to the ACC next weekend

What’s the record for consecutive games a team is featured on College Gameday? We feel as if that might be being set next week. Details…

Before the season we thought next Saturday’s game between Miami and Clemson had a chance to be decently big but I don’t think many, if any, had it pegged to be between a pair of top ten schools.

That is however the case as 3-0 Miami hits the road to take on No. 1 Clemson in the game of the week in college football and in a no-doubter of a decision, ESPN is sending College Gameday along for the ride.

Clemson is coming off a 41-23 win over unranked Virginia that moved the Tigers to 3-0 on the young season while Miami is coming off of a bye week after destroying Florida State a week ago and beating up Louisville on the road the week before that.

This will be the third Miami game in a row to be featured by Gameday which I don’t know to be a record of any kind but would fully assume to at least tie one.

The two teams have only played twice in the last nine years combined with Clemson winning both by a combined 96-3 margin.

Here’s to at least hoping for a lot more entertaining contest next Saturday.
