Armando Bacot reveals what his favorite win over Duke is

UNC basketball standout Armando Bacot revealed what his favorite win over Duke is as the two teams get set to face off again.

Despite a career year from big man Armando Bacot, 2023 wasn’t a great season for the UNC men’s basketball program.

The Tar Heels were tabbed the Preseason Number One team, but made the wrong kind of history by missing the NCAA Tournament. To make matters worse, archrival Duke gained bragging rights in the twice-a-season series with a sweep.

2022 was much better for North Carolina, which made an unexpected run to the NCAA Championship Game against Kansas. For their own bragging rights in the rivalry, the Tar Heels beat Duke in two-of-three matchups – once in Coach K’s final game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, then a second time in the storied Final Four clash.

On College GameDay this morning, UNC star big man Armando Bacot was asked about which of those two victories meant more.

Later today will be Armando Bacot’s final time playing Duke in the Dean Dome, as the Tar Heels and Blue Devils are set to tip-off at 6:30 p.m. ET. This game has major implications atop the ACC – UNC gains a 2.5 lead on Duke with a win, while the Blue Devils would move a half-game out of first with their own victory.

It’ll be tough to replicate the satisfaction from those two 2022 victories over Duke, but a Tar Heel win later today would certainly be sweet for Bacot and Co.

Social media reacts to ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ at UNC for Duke showdown

Social media reacts to College GameDay at the Dean Dome ahead of the UNC vs Duke game.

The biggest rivalry in collegiate basketball is here as UNC plays host to the Duke Blue Devils.

Chapel Hill is already jumping well before tipoff as ESPN brought the “College Game Day” show to the Dean Dome. I had a sweet opportunity to get behind the scenes as a member of the media, taking in the atmosphere as Tar Heel chants echoed throughout.

Even with a few Duke fans looking to spoil the event, their cheers sounded more like whispers. UNC fans erupted anytime they tried to get loud. As UNC fans gave a peek of what to expect tonight with chants, social media was buzzing from the game day signs and conversations surrounding the big rival game.

UNC-Duke will tip off at 6:30 p.m. Eastern. With both programs ranked in the AP Top Ten, it should be as electric as the events leading up to it. It will be the last time Armando Bacot plays the Devils in Chapel Hill, and it marks the debuts of exciting transfers Harrison Ingram and Cormac Ryan for the rivalry game.

The game Saturday night is expected to be one of the ages, but before we get there, we take a look at some of the best social media reactions from “College GameDay.”

ESPN ‘College GameDay’ crew makes picks for UNC-Duke showdown

Here is who the ESPN ‘College GameDay’ analysts picked in the UNC vs. Duke showdown on Saturday afternoon.

North Carolina is getting set to host Duke on Saturday for the first of two matchups this season. The Blue Devils swept the season series a year ago and the new-look Tar Heels are out for some revenge.

Coming off their first loss in Atlantic Coast Conference play on Tuesday at Georgia Tech, the Tar Heels are hoping to avoid having a losing streak. On the other side, Duke is coming in red hot as they have turned things around following a few losses in conference play earlier this season.

With the two teams getting ready for battle, ESPN’s “College GameDay” was on UNC’s campus for the show on Saturday morning. And to close the show, they made their picks for games including this one in the Dean Dome.

While UNC is the favorite, two of the three analysts picked Duke. Seth Greenberg and former Blue Devil Jay Williams both picked Duke.

The lone prediction for UNC? Former Tennessee star Andraya Carter.

Former Blue Devil and current broadcaster Jay Bilas did not make a pick because he will call the game Saturday night.

LSU women’s basketball to host ESPN’s College GameDay ahead of matchup vs. No. 1 South Carolina on Jan. 25

The Tigers will be in the national spotlight for their game against the top team in the nation.

LSU’s women’s basketball team will be in the national spotlight for what should be a matchup between top-10 teams when it hosts No. 1 South Carolina at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Jan. 25.

ESPN’s College GameDay preview show will be in town with Elle Duncan, Carolyn Peck, Andraya Carter, Rebecca Lobo and Holly Rowe hosting. Lobo and Rowe will also be on the call for the game.

The show will start at 6 p.m. CT, an hour before the game, and it will lead into the tip-off of the game at 7. According to an LSU release, the PMAC plans to open its doors earlier than usual so fans can be seated by the start of the show.

The Gamecocks are undefeated on the year and received unanimous first-place votes in the latest AP Top 25. LSU, meanwhile, is coming off its second loss of the season on the road against Auburn, which snapped a 16-game winning streak.

The alleged ESPN Emmy fraud, explained: Everything to know about the ridiculously silly and reckless scandal

This scandal is so unbelievable. Just … wow, ESPN.

Boy, oh boy. It’s been quite a rough week for all the folks over at ESPN, hasn’t it?

First, you’ve got all this drama between the company and Pat McAfee over Aaron Rodgers. One dude calls out longtime ESPN executive Norby Williamson while live on the air. Meanwhile, the other dude is committing Disney-on-Disney crime and *checks notes* also calling out other ESPN executives, again, live on the air.

On Thursday, things just got a bit worse. A new scathing report from The Athletic has revealed that the company concocted a decade-long scheme to secure Emmy trophies for the company’s College GameDay stars.

Yes, seriously. Let’s dive into it.

College GameDay predicts Texas vs. Washington

The GameDay crew likes Washington to beat Texas.

College GameDay likes the Washington Huskies to defeat the Texas Longhorns in the College Football Playoff semifinal. Three of the four hosts predicted Texas to lose in the Sugar Bowl.

It’s reasonable to take the higher seed. Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit leaned to the No. 2 Washington Huskies securing the win.

In Washington’s favor is a better and more experienced quarterback in Michael Penix. And while we think highly of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers it’s difficult to overlook the production of his counterpart in addition to the Washington gunslinger’s experience edge.

If Texas loses to Washington it likely won’t be for lack of offense for the Longhorns. The Huskies’ No. 120 pass defense concedes a whole lot this season. They will need to play uncharacteristically well to slow the Texas passing attack.

Washington’s potent offense will be what wins the game on Monday if it ends up victorious.

Coverage for the game begins at 7:45 p.m. CT on ESPN.

Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin shares Rose Bowl prediction for Alabama vs. Michigan

Lane Kiffin shares hilarious response for his Rose Bowl prediction

Despite still only being 48 years of age, there aren’t many coaches in football who have seen and done the things Lane Kiffin has. Kiffin earned his first head coaching role with the Oakland Raiders at only 32 years of age, before an ugly departure after two years. He then ended up at Tennessee before leaving for the USC job where he was eventually fired on the airport tarmac.

After a wild few years, Kiffin settled down and joined Nick Saban at Alabama to help rehab his career and image. During his time in Tuscaloosa, Kiffin was a finalist for the Broyles Award which is given to the top assistant coach in America. Kiffin left Alabama after the 2016 season to take over the head coaching role at FAU and is now obviously with Ole Miss.

Kiffin has had numerous stops, but his time in Tuscaloosa with Saban has always been special to Lane. He is always the first person to give Saban credit in the media, but also will never speak an ill word of the team or school. I think a large part of it is he has interest in the Alabama job down the road, and honestly I am not opposed with the way he’s turning the Ole Miss program around.

The Rebels capped off a program record 11-2 season in 2023 with a statement win over Penn State in the Peach Bowl yesterday. Before the game, the College GameDay crew asked Kiffin his thoughts on the Rose Bowl. Kiffin chuckled with the guys for putting him on the spot and setting him up, but ultimately said, “Come on Herbstreit, that’s a set up, but Roll Tide!”

College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for Army vs. Navy at Gillette Stadium

Lee Corso’s headgear pick for the 2023 Army-Navy game was hardly a surprise.

There’s only one FBS game in Week 15, and, of course, it’s the Army-Navy game, featuring some standout uniform looks from both teams, as usual.

That also meant that ESPN’s College GameDay show was in Foxborough, Massachusetts on Saturday ahead of the big game, and it had so much of the pageantry you’d expect from the annual Army-Navy game. This year, the game is at Gillette Stadium, and New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was the guest picker.

The Black Knights, on a three-game win streak, are 2.5-point favorites over the Midshipmen. But it should come as no surprise that when it came time for legendary broadcaster Lee Corso to make his weekly headgear pick, the former Navy defensive backs coach went with the Midshipmen: “Go Navy! Beat Army!”

Where is ESPN’s College GameDay traveling to in Week 15 of the 2023 season?

Where is GameDay this week? Here’s the answer.

If you’re a college football fan, you know you have every Saturday morning marked down to watch ESPN’s College GameDay as you get ready for that day’s games.

And it’s always fun to see where the show travels to during the season, with rabid fanbases designing wild signs to root on their team and troll others, and to see who Lee Corso will pick with which headgear to put on.

If you’re here, you’re probably wondering: Where is GameDay this week?

The answer: They’re in Foxborough, Massachusetts this week. Of course they’re there because it’s the annual Army and Navy game.

Enjoy!

ESPN College GameDay make picks the winners of Championship Weekend

Does the GameDay crew think there will be upsets today?

Although Ohio State football is back home in Columbus watching the final weekend of college football, there is still a path, albeit a small one, for the Buckeyes to return to the College Football Playoff.

Chaos must occur, part of the equation was Washington having to stay undefeated, which the Huskies did last night as they held off Oregon in the final Pac-12 championship game.

The Buckeyes will want to see more than a few other teams ahead of them lose, which include Texas losing to Oklahoma State, and Louisville upsetting Florida State. There is a chance, and let’s see if ESPN College GameDay’s crew of Desmond Howard, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Pat McAfee and guest picker comedian, Theo Vonn, believe the chaos will happen.
