ESPN’s College GameDay crew announces picks for SEC Championship

The ESPn College GameDay crew announced their picks between Alabama and Georgia for the SEC Championship. Do you agree?

Live from Atlanta at the site of the SEC Championship, ESPN’s College GameDay crew members announced their picks for some of the biggest conference championship matchups today.

When it came to No. 8 Alabama vs. No. 1 Georgia, the crew was split.

Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee chose the Crimson Tide, but guest picker Theo Von and Kirk Herbstreit picked the Dawgs.

The deciding vote was Lee Corso’s headgear pick and he went the the Bulldogs over the Tide.

This game is a big one as it not only decides who wins the conference, but it will dictate which team between these two, if any, make the College Football Playoff.

ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ announces location for championship week

ESPN College GameDay announces location for the conference championship games

ESPN “College GameDay” will be at the Georgia-Alabama game on Dec. 2. Georgia and Alabama are playing against each other in the SEC championship game. GameDay will run from 9 a.m. until noon ET.

GameDay picked the Georgia-Alabama game over Oregon-Washington and Michigan-Iowa. “College GameDay” attended the Georgia versus Ole Miss game this season, which the Bulldogs won in dominant fashion.

Georgia is 12-0 and Alabama is 11-1 entering the SEC championship. Georgia is coming off an eight-point win over Georgia Tech. Alabama won on a miracle fourth-down touchdown pass against Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

If Georgia wins the SEC championship, the Bulldogs will make the College Football Playoff. Alabama may need help if the Crimson Tide defeat Georgia.

Georgia went 3-0 when GameDay attended Bulldog games in 2022. Georgia is 9-1 in GameDay games in the past 10 years.

Kirk Herbstreit of ESPN’s GameDay announced GameDay would be at the SEC title game via social media.

We’ll provide further updates on where GameDay will be setting up in Atlanta, Georgia.

Desmond Howard downplaying threats against Pete Thamel is another low point for College GameDay

Mocking a colleague for getting threats is a real bad look

The downward spiral of ESPN’s College GameDay reached a new low on Saturday as the show set up shop in Ann Arbor for Michigan-Ohio State.

ESPN national college football reporter Pete Thamel, who is also a fixture on the weekly show, was forced to do his live shots on the broadcast from inside Michigan Stadium — a departure from his more typical segments surrounded by fans off to the side of the main GameDay set.

The reason for this change, according to GameDay host Rece Davis on the broadcast, was due to threats Thamel has received from Michigan fans due to his reporting on the Wolverine’s sign-stealing scandal.

It goes without saying that threats against any reporter for simply doing their job are extremely abhorrent and there can be no tolerance whatsoever. It appears ESPN erred on the side of caution by placing Thamel far away from the throngs of Michigan fans so he could continue to do his job safely.

GameDay’s Desmond Howard — a Michigan alum — decided to poke fun at the decision to move Thamel’s live shot and mocked his colleague’s supposed cowardice in a truly off-the-rails moment on Saturday.

Davis tried to explain the seriousness of the situation by noting Thamel’s “got, from the lunatic fringe, some threats” only for Howard to wave him off.

“These guys are nice fans,” Howard said gesturing to the crowd. “They’re not going to do anything.”

Davis then wisely reminded Howard it only takes one, but the whole interaction was gross.

It was a microcosm of how far GameDay has fallen. Before Howard could even get his mic turned on to criticize Thamel, Pat McAfee played to a crowd predisposed to dislike Thamel’s work by shouting “Pete Thamel doesn’t want you to talk!”

Even worse, Kirk Herbstreit was audibly agreeing with Howard calling out Thamel for a situation far beyond the reporter’s control.

Instead of supporting Thamel (their coworker!) by trying to calm down the rhetoric and hatred here, the most vocal and visible Ohio State and Michigan alums continued to fan the flames.

Kirk Herbstreit says Jayden Daniels will win Heisman, go to the NFL

Kirk Herbstreit, a Heisman voter, had a bold prediction on College GameDay.

LSU hosts Texas A&M on Saturday morning for senior day, and ESPN’s College GameDay panel unanimously picked the Tigers to get the win and finish the season 9-3.

But Kirk Herbstreit went even further while picking Brian Kelly’s team to get the win. Herbstreit, a Heisman Trophy voter, picked [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] to win the award and said that the quarterback would go on to have an NFL career.

Daniels has been arguably the best player in the entire country this season, and he’s a Heisman frontrunner alongside Bo Nix. The latter will get an extra game, but Daniels is currently setting the pace statistically.

Daniels will look to finish up the year with another strong performance against the Aggies as he looks to become LSU’s second Heisman winner in five years.

College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for No. 2 Georgia vs. No. 9 Ole Miss

Corso didn’t have to do Uga like that

While most of the college football world was busy focusing on the madness with Michigan at Penn State on Saturday, there were plenty of other intriguing storylines across the sport.

Florida State-Miami, Washington-Utah and Missouri-Tennessee are some of the big games in Week 11. And of course there’s Ole Miss at Georgia.

That’s where ESPN’s College GameDay found itself on a rainy Saturday morning and where Lee Corso came face to face with Uga XI.

Yet no matter how much Corso insulted the sweet puppy’s looks, the coach couldn’t help but fall in love with the Bulldogs against Mississippi in the SEC clash.

We don’t care what Corso says, that’s a good boy right there.

College GameDay makes their picks for Penn State vs. Michigan

Save the graphic? ESPN College GameDay crew is unanimous with their Penn State-Michigan picks.

Penn State and Michigan are squaring off in one of the top games of Week 11, and it will be played with some monster headlines surrounding the Michigan program. But the College GameDay staff and celebrity guest picker didn’t feel it was enough to pick against Michigan this week.

Penn State is the underdog in this weekend’s matchup that carries heavy weight in the Big Ten East Division standings, as well as the College Football Playoff picture. Penn State is a 4.5-point underdog at home against the Wolverines, and the line has not adjusted much throughout the week, even in wake of the news of the Big Ten suspending Michigan’s head coach for the final three games of the regular season.

So who did the guys on ESPN’s College GameDay pick this week?

Desmond Howard picked Micigamn, which was hardly a surprise given his allegiance to his beloved Wolverines.

Pat Mcafee went with the road team as well as he bought into the Michigan vs. The World mantra.

Former Georgia Bulldog and current Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith, who made a point of saying his Bulldogs were victorious in a playoff matchup with Michigan two years ago, also went with Michigan.

Lee Corso picked the Wolverines to keep the trend going, and Kirk Herbstreit made it a clean sweep favoring Michigan.

so the picks are in and the game is underway. Let’s find out if that graphic comes back to haunt later on this afternoon.
