Angry Tweets: CFB fans react to Georgia’s No. 4 ranking

Angry college football fans tweet after Georgia football checked in at No. 4 in the CFP Rankings.

On Tuesday night, Georgia checked in at No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings, remaining the highest ranked one-loss team.

According to the most recent edition of the CFP rankings, Georgia’s ranked wins include:

No. 16 Notre Dame

No. 10 Florida

No. 15 Auburn

The full top-six is as follows:

1. LSU

2. Ohio State

3. Clemson

4. Georgia

5. Alabama

6. Oregon

Surprisingly, Texas A&M, which Georgia hosts this weekend, remained unranked despite checking in at No. 23 in both the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top-25.

Following the release of the rankings, college football fans gave their thoughts on Twitter.

Originally, I was planning on making this an article that included happy tweets from UGA fans. Then, as I browsed Twitter all I saw was triggered fans of other schools…mostly Alabama.

Enjoy.

Alabama still at No. 5 in latest College Football Playoff rankings

The Alabama Crimson Tide didn’t drop in the latest College Football Playoff rankings after a dominating Mississippi State on Saturday.

[jwplayer OoFi41Mv-er0jUifI]

Alabama is fresh off a dominate 38-7 road victory over Mississippi State, which is probably why the College Football Playoff committee left them at No. 5 in the latest rankings.

On Tuesday night, it was revealed that Alabama had not dropped despite the news that star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had been lost for the season due to a hip injury.

Here is how the rankings check out:

There had been some speculation that a team like Oregon, who has impressed over the last few weeks, could jump the Crimson Tide for that No. 5 spot, but it looks like the committee isn’t ready to count them out.

Surprisingly, the Oklahoma Sooners didn’t make a move up after making an epic 28-3 comeback against Baylor, who is now ranked No. 14 after the loss.

Auburn, who will be Alabama’s last opponent of the regular season a week from Saturday, only dropped a couple of spots to No. 15 after Georgia handed the Tigers their third loss of the season.

Things are still wide open in the race for who makes the College Football Playoff, and from the looks of things, the Crimson Tide are still in the mix.

Stay tuned for more analysis and breakdowns of the rankings from Roll Tide Wire!

Ohio State remains No. 2 in latest College Football Playoff Rankings

The third installment of the 2019 College Football Playoff rankings have been released, and Ohio State remains at the No. 2 spot.

Not mush has changed at the top in the week three of the College Football Playoff Rankings. Despite showing some warts on defense, the LSU Tigers remained at the top of the poll with Ohio State remaining in second.

There was some thought that the over 600 of yards of offense the Tigers gave up to Ole Miss would be enough to allow the Buckeyes to slide back up to the No. 1 slot it occupied when the first installment of the rankings were unveiled, but it still appears to be about who LSU has beaten as opposed to which team looks more complete and dominant.

What remains to be seen is what the committee will do with Ohio State if it is able to beat a No. 8 Penn State this coming weekend. If the Buckeyes were No. 1 prior to LSU’s victory over a top five Alabama, an OSU win over a top ten Penn State might be enough to tip the scaled back in the Buckeyes’ favor.

With two weeks remaining in the regular season, and the conference championship games still to go, there are still going to be shakeups in this thing.

We’ll have it all for you as we step through the wacky rationale used by the College Playoff Committee. We’ll do it all again next Tuesday.

Oklahoma climbs one spot in newest College Football Playoff Rankings

After needing a historic comeback to beat Baylor, OU was either staying put or barely moving up in the College Football Playoff Rankings.

After needing a historic comeback to beat Baylor, Oklahoma was either staying put or barely moving up in this week’s College Football Playoff Rankings.

The College Football Playoff committee made that decision with the release of the Nov. 19 Rankings on Tuesday night, with the Sooners climbing just one spot to No. 9.

Lincoln Riley, Jalen Hurts and the 2019 Oklahoma football team found themselves in a 28-3 hole early in the second-quarter against now No. 14 Baylor before trailing the Bears 31-10 at half. The Sooners scored 24 unanswered in the second half, shutting out Baylor and pulled out a 34-31 win.

Here is how the rest of the top-10 of the College Football Playoff Rankings rounded out:

  1. LSU
  2. Ohio State
  3. Clemson
  4. Georgia
  5. Alabama
  6. Oregon
  7. Utah
  8. Penn State
  9. Oklahoma
  10. Minnesota

Oklahoma State, Oklahoma’s opponent on Nov. 30, jumped one spot to No. 21. The Sooners also gained another top-25 win as Iowa State moved into the top-25 at No. 22.

Oklahoma plays host to TCU on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT on FOX.

Week 3 College Football Playoff Rankings: Boise State Falls In Line Behind AAC

Broncos are where we thought they would be.

Contact/Follow @JeremyMauss & @MWCwire

Boise State is in prime position.

There were no surprises when it came to where Boise State was ranked in the latest College Football Playoffs. The Broncos came in at No. 20 and are behind both Memphis and Cincinnati. However, the big news is that the Bearcats dropped two spots which could come into play over the next few weeks and help Boise State.

The big thing that could be an issue with the Broncos and earning the New Year’s Six bid is a gap between them and Boise State.

Moving up the rankings is fine and well-deserved but as mentioned before is that the Tigers and Bearcats are most likely playing back-to-back. That second game, if played, would be for the AAC title and possibly a Cotton Bowl berth.

Basically, there is a roadblock for the Broncos and they need help, as we say in our weekly column about pecking order for the Group of Five bid. Until an AAC team, or two, slip up these rankings are just for show for the Broncos.

College Football Playoff rankings released – where’s Georgia football?

Where’s Georgia football in the most recent CFP rankings?

[jwplayer OoFi41Mv-er0jUifI]

On Tuesday night, the newest College Football Playoff rankings were released after Georgia’s big road win over Auburn.

In the most recent rankings, Georgia (9-1) remained at No. 4. Surprisingly, Texas A&M (7-3), which Georgia plays on Saturday, stayed unranked despite being placed at No. 23 in the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top-25.

LSU (1), Ohio State (2) and Clemson (3) all took care of business, and all held onto the same rankings.

The Dawgs definitely had the most impressive win of the weekend among those teams, beating then-ranked No. 12 Auburn on the road. That victory gives Georgia three victories over top-25 teams.

According to the most recent edition of the CFP rankings, Georgia’s ranked wins include:

No. 16 Notre Dame

No. 10 Florida

No. 15 Auburn

Alabama, which lost star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for the season, remained put at No. 5.

Here is the full top-ten:

1. LSU

2. Ohio State

3. Clemson

4. Georgia

5. Alabama

6. Oregon

7. Utah

8. Penn State

9. Oklahoma

10. Minnesota

Georgia will look to hold onto that No. 4 spot on Saturday vs Texas A&M. That game is scheduled to kick at 3:30 p.m. ET from Sanford Stadium and will air on CBS.

CFP Rankings: Live Reaction!

7:11 ET —
What did Oklahoma do to tick off the committee I do have to ask.  The Sooners got a huge win, coming from behind to beat a previously unbeaten Baylor team, a win more impressive than any that is on the resume of Utah, Oregon, Penn State, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson or Ohio State.  Yet the loss at K-State is what is keeping them down?  Man alive, no love for the Big XII this year and I can’t say I agree with it.

7:14 ET –
Alabama stays at No. 5 and they deserve to.  I hate the idea this week that has been tossed around that if Tua is out that they’re not worthy of being a playoff team.  You can argue they don’t deserve a chance and I would, because they lost a home game to LSU and the Tigers should have to potentially beat Alabama another time to win it all.  But if they were number five a week ago and they won easily, they don’t deserve to fall, even if their star quarterback is out.  Those arguing the contrary, tell me how that worked out for Ohio State back in 2014.

College Football Playoff Rankings Projection, Week 3

What will the College Football Playoff rankings be in the third unveiling on Tuesday night?

[jwplayer PkCtjTd4-boEY74VG]

What will the College Football Playoff rankings be in the third unveiling on Tuesday night?

As always, a few things to keep in mind …

1. This is simply a snapshot. We can see how the committee is thinking early on, and we can get a first look at what it seems to like, but it gets thrown out next week and the process starts over.

2. In general, the committee over the first five years of this thing loves big wins and hates ugly losses. You can lose, but don’t get wiped out. At the end of the day, the committee can like any team it wants to, just because. However … big wins, big wins, big wins.

3. Each spot in the order is argued over. It’s not just a random list thrown together in a room. Everyone has to agree that team X needs to get put ahead of teams Y and Z. You might not agree with the rankings, but each spot in the top 25 has been meticulously debated.

And after all of that, it’s about feel, eye-test, and resumé.

So what will they be? Here’s the best guess for what the third College Football Playoff rankings will be on Tuesday night.

25. Virginia Tech Hokies 7-3 (NR)

Here’s your answer for the ACC’s problem of who’ll end up in the Orange Bowl. Assuming Clemson is in the College Football Playoff, the next highest-ranked ACC team will be in the big game, and Virginia Tech is two wins away – Pitt, at Virginia – from getting there.

24. Texas A&M Aggies 7-3 (NR)

It’s finally time finally recognize Texas A&M for its horrible, horrible schedule break. Yeah, it’s 7-3, but those three losses were to CFP No. 3 Clemson, No. 5 Alabama, and No. 12 Auburn. The blowout win over South Carolina will have to be enough to move into the rankings.

23. SMU Mustangs 9-1 (NR)

The Mustangs were 25th in the first round of rankings, dropped out after struggling to get by East Carolina 59-51, and will slide back in after a week off. The win over TCU is still a key part of the puzzle, but the record and the offense will be enough to be ranked.

22. Appalachian State Mountaineers 9-1 (25)

Now the Mountaineers will move up after getting into the top 25 last week. The wins over North Carolina and South Carolina are still great for a Group of Five program, and blowing away Georgia State 56-27 was terrific. Don’t be stunned if ASU is deep in the chase for the Cotton Bowl at the end of the process.

21. Oklahoma State Cowboys 7-3 (22)

The committee liked Oklahoma State enough to put it in the top 25 from the start. Now on a three-game winning streak, and after a blowout win over Kansas – everything sets up for a big finish. Get by West Virginia on the road, and the Oklahoma game will be for a chance to screw up the Sooners’ CFP hopes.

[lawrence-related id=498621]

20. Boise State Broncos 9-1 (21)

Shhhhhhhhh. This really might be your Group of Five representative in the New Year’s Six Cotton Bowl slot. Watch out for Cincinnati and Memphis screw each other up – they’ll likely have to play twice – and Boise State will keep on moving up. But for now, being in the top 20 is fine.

19. Iowa Hawkeyes 7-3 (20)

Is it possible to leapfrog the one-loss Group of Fivers? Iowa should – the three losses are to CFP No. 14 Wisconsin and No. 15 Michigan on the road, and to No. 9 Penn State in a close battle. And now they beat the unbeaten No. 8 Minnesota team, but they’ll still likely be behind …

18. Memphis Tigers 9-1 (18)

The Tigers won four straight with a convincing win over Houston on the road. They have to keep winning, though. Lose, and the door is open for SMU to jump into the AAC West lead. Everything for MU is steamrolling towards a showdown against …

17. Cincinnati Bearcats 9-1 (17)

Some will argue that the Bearcats should be higher than this, but they struggled WAY too much with a mediocre USF team in a 20-17 win. All that really matters is that they’ll still be the top-ranked Group of Five team, giving it the inside track for the Cotton Bowl.

16. Auburn Tigers 7-3 (12)

Yeah, the Tigers now have three losses, but remembering that the committee argues the merits of each team and each position, they can’t – and likely won’t – drop too far after a close loss to last week’s CFP No. 4 team, Georgia. Remember, the other two losses came to CFP No. 11 Florida and, or course, No. 1 LSU.

[lawrence-related id=500701]

15. Baylor Bears 9-1 (13)

Remember, these rankings aren’t like other polls. It’s not as simple as win and move up, lose and move down – there’s an outside shot the Bears don’t move down at all. The committee will like the first half against Oklahoma just enough to not punish the Bears too much – they won’t be any lower than 14, if they don’t move up.

14. Notre Dame Fighting Irish 8-2 (16)

The Fighting Irish can’t and won’t move ahead of Michigan, but after obliterating the CFP No. 23 Navy team 52-20, they’ll slide into the top 14 and hang around enough to be in range for a New Year’s Six bowl consideration.

13. Michigan Wolverines 8-2 (15)

Unlike the other rankings, the College Football Playoff committee is old enough to remember when the Wolverines were blasted by Wisconsin. A New Year’s Six game is still possible by winning out, finishing up with a win over Ohio State. At the very least, now they’ve positioned themselves up for a solid Big Ten bowl slot.

12. Wisconsin Badgers 8-2 (14)

This is actually too high for a team that’s shakier than it might seem, but the convincing win over Nebraska on the road – combined with the now-stronger looking win over Iowa two weeks ago – will move the Badgers up a few spots.

11. Florida Gators 9-2 (11)

The Gators should actually be ranked higher than this considering their two losses came to CFP No. 1 LSU and No. 4 Georgia. The win over Auburn will matter more and more – technically, Florida should be ahead of Oregon in this. A spot in a New Year’s Six game will be a near-lock if it beats Florida State convincingly.

Ohio Sate Football Buckeye Battle Cry: Should the Buckeyes be ranked ahead of LSU

It’s Friday and that means another version of our Buckeye Battle Cry roundtable. Should Ohio State still be ranked ahead of LSU? We discuss.

One of the things we like to do here at Buckeyes Wire is debate. We’re good at it, even when we’re wrong. Each Friday, we’ll throw out a topic that seems to be in the news and provide a round table forum of discussion. Sometimes it’ll be two writers, sometimes more. Sometimes it’ll be hotly debated, sometimes more civil.

Heck, sometimes it’ll be outlandish, but it’s fun nonetheless.

You can even get in on the act by going to our Facebook or Twitter page (at the bottom of this article) and providing your own input, but beware — we do like to respond and hash it out, so be ready for some debate yourself.

This week, we discuss the latest College Football Playoff Rankings, specifically at the top. Ohio State was displaced by LSU and we’re asking our writers if the Buckeyes should still be ranked ahead of the Bayou Tigers.

We’re going to let Brock kick this one off …

WATCH: Nick Saban shares thoughts on CFB Playoff ranking

Alabama head coach Nick Saban isn’t worried about Playoff rankings. He’s only worried about controlling what his team can control!

Nick Saban has built the Alabama football program by focusing on the things that you can control.

At this point in the season, the head coach isn’t worried about where his team stands in the College Football Playoff rankings, and he made that much clear during his weekly “Hey Coach” show on Thursday night.

Here is what Saban actually said:

“I don’t want our players to be talking about or hearing about like what everybody else is talking about — my daughter and everybody else — it’s all I hear about: are we going to get into the Playoff? Why did Georgia get ahead of us? I don’t really care about that, alright. Because the only thing we have to do is focus on what do we have to do to finish the season.”

The Alabama head coach then went on to talk about how special it is that every team since 2010 has suffered one or less losses during the regular season, which is a fantastic point.

Right now, the team needs to be worried about controlling the things that are in its control, one of which is beating Mississippi State in Starkville on Saturday morning.
